June is pride month and a couple of east bay cities are divided on recognizing the lgbtq community. Contra costa county, oakly is the latest city to wrestle with pride month. The argument at city hall exposed a deep divide. Julia. Reporter certainly does. And this is how it works here in oakly. It is the mayor who selects the citys proclamations and she did just that when it came to acknowledging gay pride month in just a couple of days. In a town where the American Flag is proudly displayed and memorial day celebrated oakly is very old school. Got a lot of country folk out here. Reporter so when the mayor of oakly wanted to make a city wide proclamation recognizing lgbt month in june, she got push back. First from Council Member randy pope. Proclamation traditionally have been noncontroversy. Y theyre kind of happy things, a good thing we can do. Reporter his view backed by vice mayor. Just because other people think its the thing to do now, different cities, different counties, i think we have a different vision here in oakly. This calls for a month gay pride month. I mean, we only honor the veterans for one day out of the month. Reporter and despite small attendance at the city council meeting, opinions were flowing through town today. Everybody has their own preferences and the lgbtq thing doesnt bother me at all. This country, its freedom. You can do what you want to do. But at the same time, there are those of us that have different feelings, different emotions and oppose different things. I dont think the city needs to be a part of it. If they want to be, thats okay. Reporter when it comes to proclamations, the city bylaws says the mayor of oakly has the final say. I want to be clear that i alone issue this proclamation for lgbt pride month and welcome those who would like to support it. Reporter now, each Council Member gets a chance to be mayor of oakly for the year. Its a rotating basis. Mean while, dublin has had a change of heart. The city is now expected to fly the rainbow flag after all. Last week dublin residents spoke out against flying the rainbow flag over city hall for pride month. Robert mueller broke his silence on the russia investigation. We have Live Team Coverage on his comments. Melissa cane nicole is live at the white house. Reporter the white house is down playing this special counsels statement saying it is time to move on. Special Counsel Robert Mueller ended his two years of silence on the investigation into russian meddling in the 2016 election. There were multiple, systematic efforts to interfere in your election. And that allegation deserves the attention of every american. Reporter mueller delivered a 10minute prepared statement taking no questions. He emphasized his report did not exonerate President Trump. If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so. Reporter President Trump has repeatedly said the report clears him of obstruction. After muellers comments, he tweeted nothing changes from the Mueller Report. There is insufficient evidence and therefore inurtry, a innoce we think the president has been fully and completely exonerated. Reporter the special counsel said Justice Department policy prevents a sitting president from being indicted and charging the president with a crime wasnt something he could consider. Congress to determine. House judiciary chairman says theyll hold the president accountable. Make no mistake. No one, not even the president of the united states, is above the law. Reporter many Congressional Republicans say its over and done with. Senator Lindsey Graham tweeted mr. Mueller has decided to move on and let the report speak for itself. Congress should follow his lead. Mueller said he would have nothing further to say to congress beyond whats in the report. And many lawmakers say they still want special Counsel Robert Mueller to testify in and a growing number especially democrats are calling for impeachment proceedings. However Top Democrats continue to insist all options are on the table. Live for us today at the white house. Nicole, we appreciate it. Thank you. In the meantime, House Speaker nancy pelosi weighing in on all of this right here in the bay t now. Melissa. Reporter yeah, were here at the Marines Memorial Club in San Francisco where earlier today House Speaker nancy pelosi talked to a packed house telling them that she is still not ready to commence impeachment proceedings. She later told a group of reporters that she still wants mueller to come testify before congress. I think it would be useful for him to testify before congress. Reporter special Counsel Robert Mueller says he has nothing more to add about his investigation. But House Speaker nancy pelosi still wants him to testify before the house judiciary committee. I do think it would be important because the American People still have not seen an unredacted Mueller Report that while he may have thought these were the priority points to make to the public, but there may be questions relating to these facts that members of congress would have. So i still hope that he would come before congress. Reporter pelosi calls for the report to be made public without redactions and says mueller did not exonerate the president. He also was clear in saying that if he thought the president could be cleared, he would have cleared him, but he didnt. And that is very clear. Reporter but she stopped short of calling for impeachment saying democrats will continue to investigate. You dont bring an indictment or impeachment unless you have all of the packets, the strongest possible case, so the president is held accountable. One way or another. Reporter as for the growing number of candidates for president who have called for impeachment, pelosi said most of them are not members of the house of representatives and they wont influence what happens in the house. We wont be swayed by a few people who think one way or another, who are running for president as much as i respect all of them. Reporter now, when asked whether or not she would support subpoenaing Robert Mueller to testify before congress, pelosi said were not there yet, lets see how it goes first. Coming up at 6 00, were going to show you her choice words for facebook. Kpix 5. California senator and president ial candidate Kamala Harris also weighing in on muellers comments. He told us a lot. Youre going to have to use some real observant observations here. Look behind this is our camera that sits on top of the sales force camera. So right behind where it says s force and live, you see the one cloud showing up out there. Its building vertically. Thats a cumulus cloud building out over the mountains. This would be down toward san jose looking east down toward the mountains. If youre in san jose and look east, those clouds are a bit closer. The reason im pointing that out is because for the next day and a half, were going see more of these clouds building over the bay area. For tomorrow and the afternoon, those of us in the north way might actually get a stray shower from this pattern. For right now, its just a few clouds. And its 83 degrees inland. That becomes more noticeable by the middle and end part of next week. For us, nothing, if we look at the wider view, theres a lot going on for california. The sierras got a series of thunderstorms. The National Weather service has been issuing occasional severe thunderstorm warnings over there in the mountains. But nothing close to being an issue for us. Its good to see the bigger picture. Theres stuff going on. And theres going to continue to be stuff going on across the state for the next couple days. And that will take probably until we get through the weekend. It doesnt mean rain for us. That systems going too far inland and the only opportunity it gives us is that one chance i mentioned for tomorrow afternoon in the north bay right there. And that gets us to 3 00 in the afternoon on thursday. Maybe a few scattered showers for the north bay. For the middle of the day, well notice the marine lair layer builds on the coast and thats it. After that, things are going to start warming up. Heres head lines to take away low clouds and fog tonight. Cooler for everybody tomorrow. Isolated shower in the north bay. Here are your overnight lows tonight. Low and mid50s for many of us. And warm back up to our coolest day of the next 7. 70 for redwood city and 77 inland for fairfield. Look at the inland numbers. Were back in the upper 80s for the weekend, but it is low to mid90s by the time we get to tuesday and wednesday next week. The rest of us are on the bay and if youre lucking to be out by the coast, it is going to be warmer. Its going to be a bigger change for those of us inland. Concord, talking to you.
