You can see the rain overnight really bloomed over the valley and we have got more thats coming in off the pacific. Theres more rain this morning but this will give way to scattered showers by the afternoon so at least we get a little bit of a let up. Theres a little disturbance in the atmosphere that will begin to ease up during the day so we get steady rain. Sorry, i have the plague but i showed up anyway. A scuffle between the giants chief executive and his wife. Yesterdays incident between larry bayer and his wife pam was posted in a public plaza in haze valley area. Witnesses say the situation when bayer tried to grab a cell phone from his wife. At one point pam bayer is shown falling out of her chair and yelling for help. They were just having a little or whatever and then all of a sudden when we hear the scream we look at them and she is on the ground and trying to hold on to her phone. Larry bayer could potentially face discipline. The couple released a joint statement calling it a family argument then larry bayer issued a statement apologizing for the scene. Pam released a pam. One driver is dead and another injured after a head on collision in a park. Police say 2 sedans crashed yesterday evening. The driver of a chevrolet died at the scene and the driver of the nissan has injuries that are not considered life threatening. It happened at mclaren park. Police hope witnesses will come forward to provide information. Its a deal almost. Thousands of oakland teachers could be back to work next week with bigger paychecks but not everyone is happy. A tentative deal reached yesterday would give teachers a raise of 14 along with a one time 3 bonus. The Oakland School district also received to a one student reduction by the fall of 2021 but all this still has to be voted on by Union Members. Spoke with teachers who say they plan to vote no on this deal. This is a very significant win because of the power of our strike. The Union President calls the tentative agreement a victory but some are skeptical. I feel like it doesnt really cover cost of living. I still think the 12 plus the bonus, it wasnt that much of an act. We need to keep pushing. They believe Union Negotiators gave in too early. We havent got too much in terms of classroom reductions or school closures. In the deal oakland unified will look at a 5 month mother tore yum on. Teachers say not good enough. We basically just give the district 5 months to call a meeting when we are not here and they could close schools when we are not in session. Some teachers plan to vote no and sends Union Leaders back to negotiations. When we vote no that they take our no very seriously. But others are ready to go back to the classrooms. Negotiations are about compromise. We have to give a little. 7 days of picketing, everyones patience is running low. Some teachers and a man got into a shoving match when he tried to cross the picket line to attend the school board meeting. The police had to break it up. For those who plan to vote yes they believe a speedy end to the strike will allow them to move. Its not perfect. We wish it was over 3 years but we will take the 4 years. While the oakland teacher strike may be winding down another in san ramon may be right around the corner. The leaders have authorized to strike. The union wants increased pay and smaller class sizes. Residents and Business Owners are picking up the pieces this morning after historic russian flooding swept through thousands of buildings. For the people most affected by this flooding this was really the first day to come back and start taking stock of things and no matter how bad the situation was for people there was something i heard time and time again, this is just part of life on the river. It just came in here like rushing water. For nicole and her family the water sorted to the second floor of their home, which is now yellow tagged. His name is poof. They claim they were assured if a flood happened the landlord would keep barriers. There was not supposed to be water getting into these structures. Evidently all of those measures failed. We reached out to the developer for comment but have not heard back. Video shows moments a deputy tasered an unarmed black man. He would later die. We are now learning there will be no charges against the officers. With the video thats sparking protest. In 2 days it will be exactly 5 months since was tased here on he will cam even oh real. We finally see the confrontation that led to his death. You are going to get tased. Get on the ground now. The dash cam shows sheriffs deputies struggling to arrest. He was tased once. On your stomach now. A second time as he is on the ground. Deputies repeatedly warn him he will be tased again if he doesnt roll on his stomach before hes tased a third time. He is then tased a 4th and final time. Get down. He then runs across the street hitting a deputy in the face before he is finally arrested but he is never taken to jail. Instead the 36yearold dies of a heart attack caused by the incident. He should not be dead. Despite pressure by the family. It is a sad event. District attorney announced deputies would not face any charges for wrongdoing. It is my conclusion is that this conduct of the officers on that day was lawful under the california penal code and the United States constitution and the law that governs it. I think its clear that the taser was inappropriate mechanism to subdue a person who had not committed a particular serious crime. The family attorney and protesters now fighting for the Sheriffs Office to put a mother tore yum on moratorium on tasers. His family said he suffered from a mental illness. He yelled out at some point somebody please help me. Thats not a person who was trying to fight the police. The family was not here for the protest but they are not sitting back. Rescuers spent days looking for a father and it turns out the search was a hoax. Coming up. Students and staff at a San Francisco high school are reeling after 3 students were killed in a car crash. Kpix 5 spoke with the principal about the loss. Just inside the main hall way at San Franciscos Mission High School sits a small memorial for the family. Siblings eli and sara were killed on a crash on i80 early thursday morning. The family was racing from the bay to San Francisco to see their father in the hospital. Their 17yearold brother aaron was injured in the crash. The entire family went to Mission High School. The. It felt very sombering. The students the folks that passed were beloved here. The family is beloved at mission. Tuesday, two days before the crash in the middle of an atmospheric the family was out supporting aaron. I turned to the stands and who were there but the kids that i mentioned, all supporting their brother on the the field. All drenching wet cheering and saying go, go, go bears, and i just remember thinking, what a lovely family. Aarons teammates thursday channeled their emotions to a win for their teammate still in the hospital. On the field when they won they really won a hard fought game and i could see that the level of energy was coming i think from their emotions, perhaps from grief maybe. A stand offended early this morning in lass anxious county Los Angeles County after leading authorities on a pursuant suit. It began last night when a signal alerted the sheriffs departments that the pickup had been stolen. Whoa whoa. The pickup was pursued through freeways and side streets and several cities until it timely came to a stop in bell flour. The suspect did eventually exit the pickup and surrender. A woman killed in a landslide in san San Francisco. The parks and recreation believes her body was washed out to sea. She and a friend were walking a dog last sundays when tons of sand came crashing down on them. Efforts to find the victim have failed after digging by hand and machinery. 2 ospreys are back in the same nest in the bay area. How is that for a transition. Low pressure is going to move in will maintain sort of unsettled weather, this on again off again rain. Then we get a break later on sunday and right into monday. Future cast shows a huge amount but it will be a wet day today right through sunday morning. After that is the real question because this next in a series of Atmospheric Rivers looks as though its trending south of the bay area with the heavy rain on Santa Barbara counties but if that shifts a little bit to the north it could be a different thing. Tuesday and wednesday we are going to be looking for snow in the mountains as well with winter storm warnings, all the rain turning to snow. And last on peak is picking up 30 inches of snow, it sounds like tahoe so they have got winter storm warnings through sunday morning. Rain will turn to showers. More rain due on tuesday and wednesday. Tonight we will hit overnight lows in the 40s. The high temperatures for today will be in the 50s and low 60s and expect wet on and off again saturday evening and right through tomorrow morning. And in the extended forecast we get a break. Monday we might see that bright yellow thing in the sky briefly. Its called the sun from what i remember. Tuesday and wednesday rain comes back in the bay area and the latter part of the week we get a grace. Lets just hope this doesnt shift to the north on tuesday and wednesday. The Sheriffs Office got a call earlier this week from a son of a scottish man. He claimed his father disappeared after going for a swim. But when searchers found no trace of him authorities began to get suspicious. Didnt actually see the father go in the water. We dont have a witness so its kinds of like a needle in a hey stack. They now believe the man faked his disappearance to avoid prosecution in rape cases in scotland. They are now looking for him here and in his homeland. I have got your san jose a sharks. Not this rain that we have had over the past couple of days, but wet enough we will pick up another 1 4 to 1 2 inch of rain with temperatures in the 50s with the exception of santa rosa which is reporting heavy rain. Golden gate bridge has plenty of moisture on it as well. And fog heading up into marin. Hidef doppler says we have got pretty significant cell over the northern end of the Sacramento Valley but back in the bay area it will begin to ease up so thats the good news as you can see heavy cells that are just beginning to move east of santa rosa now and over towards st. Helena. Over in the east bay from walnut creek to san ramon in the 680 corridor wet as well. South bay wildly scattered showers. When it rains, it pours. We are going to be looking for that low pressure to move in over far Northern California so a soggy start to this saturday. By the time we hit midday it begins to ease up. Yesterday negotiators for the district and the Oakland Education Association reached a tentative agreement. A union member still Union Members still have to vote on the deal this weekend and if the deal is approved, teachers could be back on the job as soon as monday. Police say they are looking into a public scuffle between San Francisco giants executive and his wife. Yesterdays incident between larry bear and his wife pam happened in a public plaza in San Francisco, captured on video and posted on the website tmz. Major League Baseball says its also investigating. And San Mateo County District Attorney steve wax staph says sheriffs deputies will not face charges in the death of a 36yearold man. Deputies say the man was running in and out of traffic in millbrae and assaulted a deputy before a deputy shocked him with a taser in october. A man facing charges in connection with an assault on the uc berkeley campus. Police took Zachary Greenberg into custody yesterday afternoon. The suspect is not a student. When two men confronted him, one punching him in the face. The case will be presented to the alameda County District attorney for criminal charges. Two people are behind bars in San Francisco accused of murdering a man and dumping his body near one of the citys top tourist attractions. Police say that gerald rowe and Angela Anderson killed 23year old George Randall in an apartment near hyde and market street. They then dumped his body in the bay. The remains were found on february 18th, not far from pier 39. So far there is no word on a motive. And homeless encampments have reappeared in a park along lake merritt in oakland. This despite a recent sweep by the city to take down those encampments, also there are now signs posted that prohibit overnight camping. Yesterday we talked to two men who so far at least have refused the citys offers of housing assistance. They were also in Lakeside Park two weeks ago when the tents were removed. They are not, though, among the 17 people who accepted housing. One says hes been living in the same park for nearly two years and prefers to stick it out alone. Another man says hes open to moving. They said they were offering people to go to tough sheds or shelters. Would you go to either of those . Ill be glad to. I dont want to stay with nobody. No. The city says it will be back next week to enforce the no camping rule and this weekend campers will receive a notice saying they must vacate within 72 hours. Two cracked windows have now been discovered at San Franciscos tallest building, the salesforce tower. Building inspectors confirmed one south facing window on the 12th floor and an east facing window on the 14th floor are cracked on the inside. Right now its not clear what caused them to crack, a spokesperson for the buildings owner says since the damage is on the inside, there is no danger of glass falling onto the street. There is fog out there this morning as well. So it is a dark and stormy saturday morning. Much of the bay area. Wont last long. Rain turning to showers later but a soggy start to the weekend. Tomorrow we get a break as that low pressure moves inland, it is ushering all that rain in front of it, giving it a push up into the sierra and foothills where it will turn into plenty of snow. Meantime, in the bay area, they had heavy rain in santa rosa about an hour ago. The complex of kind of cell of heavy rain moving into st. Helena now. Over in the east bay, wildly scattered showers, a few are coming down pretty well but not much more to keep the windshield wipers on intermittent. In general just a few showers around the bay area. Futurecast shows race out of the area as the day goes on, but a sprinkle or two from time to time as that circulation from the low washes on shore tonight, early tomorrow morning. We still wont be completely out of it so it will be a wet saturday afternoon, saturday night. The extended forecast, lets hope this continues, not that we want to wish anything ill on the big sur coastline or Atmospheric River setting up for next week, what we used to call a pineapple connection, now is called an Atmospheric River. All the same thing. Basically subtropical air being caught in the base of a cold front thats moving south and being dragged across the pacific and at the moment it looks like the bullseye for next week. This is critical. It looks like its south of the bay area but the center of that can shift north or south. If it shifts north that would be a world of bad news. So we will just see if it continues to trek a little bit south. Still be wet midweek, still wet this morning as we head out the door, the numbers in the low 50s, winter storm warnings are posted where all the rain turns into the snow, 12 to 18 inches, up to 2 feet at the peak so its slow going out to the mountains. And we are going to pick up more snow as well, in bear valley, as much as 2 feet, tonner summit up to about a foot and a half and the volcanic last volcano to erupt in california, lassen peak. I feel like there was a study of silly studies and that study ranked near the top. I actually read this study and tried to understand its methodology. Reporter thanks to the nonprofit lava made. After using its services for years michael is now a volunteer for the organization that started providing shot showers and clean bathrooms in 2014. The whole experience was designed to say to people you are worthy. You have value. We see you and we care. Reporter living in San Franciscos Western Addition for 20 years, lava mays founder, Denise Sandoval saw the number of Homeless People exploding. Then she found out there were only 16 public showers and toilets for about 7500 Homeless People so six years ago she started a crowd funding campaign, raising enough money to buy four retired muni buses that were then converted into shower buses. Tasteful decorations, High End Products and towels are what denise calls radical hospitality. To really see and acknowledge these individuals as our neighbors, as fellow human beings, is something that they rarely get. Reporter thanks to generous donations the converted muni buses have given way to custom commercial shower trailers. Five days a week they are taken to seven locations in the city and now popup care villages surround the trailers and provide additional services. Richard ladle is a regular lava may guest.
