[ laughter ] let's take a look at the big board see how the market is doing. we're about 40 minutes from closing bell. it was a volatile week. so far the dow is up about 60 points. what's cool about your school? you can email your nominations to us at coolschools@kpix.com. we may come and feature your school on the show. we'll be right back. fire fighting is a very dangerous profession. we have one to two fires a day and when you respond together and you put your lives on the line, you do have to surround yourself with experts. and for us the expert in gas and electric is pg&e. we run about 2,500/2,800 fire calls a year and on almost every one of those calls pg&e is responding to that call as well. and so when we show up to a fire and pg&e shows up with us it makes a tremendous team during a moment of crisis. i rely on them, the firefighters in this department rely on them, and so we have to practice safety everyday. utilizing pg&e's talent and expertise in that area trains our firefighters on the gas or electric aspect of a fire and when we have an emergency situation we are going to be much more skilled and prepared to mitigate that emergency for all concerned. the things we do every single day that puts ourselves in harm's way, and to have a partner that is so skilled at what they do is indispensable, and i couldn't ask for a better partner. today's topic -- teeth cleaning.. dr. jill chase joins us every friday we check in with our pet expert to tackle issues pet owners may be facing and today's topic, teeth cleaning. don't use sonic care, right? dr. jill chase joins us. >> i wanted to talk about why we do general anesthesia when we do it for cats and dogs. we do use ultrasonic cleaning technique and so that makes a very high pitched sound and most animals don't like to lay down and deal with that. they want to be off the table and out of there. that sound is very scary for them. they don't like dental tools. we have to go around all teeth and under the gum line to clean. so we have to use something that will keep them restrained and in this case we use anesthesia. the other thing that's very important is that there's a lot of water from the ultrasonic cleaner and usually they will have a lot of bacteria in their mouth and that can actually be aspirated into the lungs which can be fatal so in order to prevent that we put an endotracheal tube into the lungs and provides them with oxygen and anesthesia and has something to prevent the fluid from getting into the lungs. so that's why we do that. i thought i would show you, if you can see this he has a little bit of tar tar on the back. they should, white but there's brownback there. so this is very mild to moderate dental tar tar. usually i'll have the owners brush and in my practice my owners are great about brushing their teeth so i rarely do dentals and it works. that's why we use anesthesia. >> it's a little more complicated for our pets. >> thank you for joining us. >> if you have a question about your pet's health and well- being, we want to hear from you. ust email us at pets@kpix.com and we'll have our pet expert give you an answer every friday right here at noon. we'll be right back. a reminder now if you have a consumer problem or question, email or call us. ell, today's tip of the day is going to be is with corn. this time of year there's not a lot of local corn being grown. as a matter of fact, most of it is imported. but let me tell you something, the corn right now in the market is pretty good. but the selection and storage is very, very important. when you buy it you want to make sure if it's packed in a tray like this, make sure they are tight and bicolor means two colors white and yellow. you want to make sure very important no shriveling. enjoy them within a few days, in the refrigerator right away. when it's already peeled and, you know, if you have it like this, it's great. what i like to do is add olive oil, salt and pepper and throw it in the broiler or just take it out, the kernels by themselves and make a nice corn salsa, wonderful and great for you. 'm tony tantillo, your fresh grocer, and always remember to eat fresh and stay healthy. remember, that's a tray of corn corn. coming up tonight at 5:00, he just signed a record- breaking contract with the 49ers. and now quarterback jimmy garoppolo is speaking out about his long-term commitment to the bay area. we'll have that and more at 5:00. so the big question, is he a hunk in your eyes ? >> is he in yours? >> i think he is a good quarterback. >> jimmy g is a good quarterback and good-looking. >> good-looking guy. >> he just called san francisco san fran. ♪[ music ] ♪ >> thorne: ladies and gentlemen, mr. and mrs. ridge forrester.
