The super bowl. Well go live to minneapolis for a preview of the game and show you how organizers are dealing with fans at the coldest super bowl ever. And we begin with todays eye opener. Your world in 90 seconds. I think it is terrible what is going on in this country. I think it is a disgrate. Republicans release the memo. Recriminations fly. Thats it. Thats all theyve got. This is what all the hype was about. Are there other memos. You said this is phase one. This completes just the fisa abuse portion of our investigation. It is absolutely shocking, it is stunning. We were promised to crack and out pops a minnow. An angry father lunges at larry nassar who victimized his daughters. I did not think wanting to kill him. But i did want to inflict some pain. A funky flu at the e. R. A pennsylvania woman is going on a rant about the flu. A shocking video shows close proximity between a drone and a passenger plane heading into mccarran airport. Police in michigan are blaming a massive highway pileup on the snow. 17 semis. A free fall on friday could lead to a manic monday. The dow dropped by nearly 666 points. All of that and nasa curiosity rover is sending back spectacular images of mars. A small focusing camera on the end of the curiosity arm snaps this. And all that is next. Robert is on the tee at 17. Oh, goodness gracious. So close to going in. Wow on cbs this Morning Saturday. The week began with the state of the union and it is closing with the release of the memo. Republicans talk about this memo. Like it is some smoking gun piece of evidence that they uncovered. No. They wrote it. It is not an intelligence document, it is a Facebook Post that you briefly skim before clicking unfriend. And welcome to the weekend, everyone. Im anthony mason. And im alex wagner. We begin with the document that is deepening division in washington and raising the stakes of the russia investigation. Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee released a memo authored by chairman devin nunes despite strong objections from the fbi, Justice Department and democrats on the committee. It accused the fbi and Justice Department leaders of abusing powers to spy on a former Trump Campaign adviser. Suspected of working for the russian gofd government and the document includes information declassified by the white house is intensifying the partisan battle over russia and its role in our president ial election. Errol barnett is with the president in West Palm Beach. Good morning. Reporter good morning. The president ignored warning signs from the fbi. Deciding instead it is in his best interest to release this republican authored memo which affectively raises a cloud of doubt and suspicion over one aspect of the special counsel russia investigation. I think it is a disgrace. Reporter President Trump made clear his frustration with the fbi handling of the russia investigation. A lot of people should be ashamed of themselves and much worse than that. Reporter illustrating his point, mr. Trump approved the release of a full page memo from republicans on the House Intelligence Committee. It claims before the 2016 election fbi agents relied on a politically motivated dossier compiled by Christopher Steele and seeking permission to monitor trump adviser carter page. The memo said when agents went before a secret fisa judge they didnt mention steele was being paid by the clinton campaign. They wouldnt have received a warrant without the dossier. Reporter devin nunes whose team drafted the memo defended the release. We had to take all of this information and reduce it down into a summary with just the pertinent facts about the fisa abuse. The only area im familiar with that we left out would be the history of carter page. Reporter adam schiff, the top democrat on the Committee Said the court was told steeles work was likely politically motivated. This wasnt about oversight. This was about telling a political story that is helpful to the president. It is about telling a political story that is designed to injure the work of the special counsel and to discredit it. Reporter the fbi opposed the memos release citing grave concerns about material omissions of fak. For example, fbi agents knew russians were courting carter page three years before the dossier was written. Fired fbi director james comey called the memo dishonest and misleading. Saying it destroyed trust within the Intelligence Community. The release of this memo is going to do some very serious damage. Reporter former director of the cia leon panneto echoed that sentiment. The president and congress now have a position of distrust with the Justice Department and the fbi. Reporter amid the turmoil, President Trump refused to vocali vocalize his opinion of the man in charge of the russia investigation. Deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein. You figure that one out. Reporter now the white house said President Trump made this decision with input from the National Security team and members of the Intelligence Community for whom he has great respect, they tell us. Meanwhile democrats on that same committee have their own memo. It is still waiting for declassification. Errol barnett in West Palm Beach, thank you. For more on another eventful week in washington. Were joined by bob cusack. Good morning. Good morning. How significant is the impact of this memo. It is significant in that it raises question but weve only seen the republican memo but we havent seen the democratic. Will we see the democratic memo. I think we will. Because republicans got so much heat for not releasing at the same time. And will the memo answer those questions. But it is another example of how the house Intelligence Community is broken. And how does the work of that committee continue. That is a good question. Members on both sides of the aisle are calling each other liars. They are saying Different Things about what is in the memo and the veracity of it. I think it is difficult. The senate Intelligence Community works very different and very bipartisan. This memo advertised as one thing and has it delivered on what it advertised. I think everything in washington is overhyped and i think this was overhyped but it does raise questions of what they told the fisa court. Did they not give the information fully that this was paid for by the Democratic National committee and hillary clinton. And there is the question whether that matters because the memo does not seem to say the intelligence presented in the dossier was somehow compromised. There is a question of sources partisanship and what meaningful affect that has an on investigation. Right. I think the bottom line is the memo is making the case that the fbi was unfair and violated carter pages rights. Now the question is that accurate. Now peter king said there should be hearings on this. I think this is a good idea. Everything lets get everything out in the open. All out there. And ask questioned. And they renewed in order three finals. And when they go back to the court they cant present the same case. They have to prebts present more. And a lot of this is about Rod Rosenstein is there is speculation that trump would fire because he set up the special counsel and that would lead to the end of robert mueller. Paul ryan said these are separate issues but Rod Rosenstein is mentioned in the memo. This is not the only skirmish. We know the Justice Department has an i. G. Investigating the handling of Hillary Clintons email investigation. What is happening there and how measurably could that affect an already polarized dynamic. That is the most underrated stories that is about to happen. This Inspector General report is being written by someone respected on both sides of the aisle and worked on bush and obama and now looking at the comey investigation. And chris wray has seen preliminary findings of of this report and that led to d. O. J. Official Andrew Mccabe being pushed out. And maybe criticism of james comey himself. Interesting. At the same time we began with the state of the union that people called unifying at the time. At the end of the week we dont exactly feel unified. No. Trump did get a bump from it. But at the same time i dont think it moved the needle and some republicans and democrats say it moved them further away from a possible deal on immigration. So trump got a bump but at the same time i dont think hell get a lot of what he asked for. Bob, what happens with the looming second Government Shutdown this year. It is basically less than a week way. I dont think well see a shutdown next week. The democrats move last time backfired and now i think theyll punt again into march. And then that is where were dealing with the dreamer deadline. All bets are off then. I dont know how the story ends. But i think theyll punt congress is good at punting. A super bowl weekend. A good metaphor. Do the democrats feel theyve completely misplayed this last time. There are conservative democrats up for reelection in 2018 for the senate. They got nervous and didnt want to be plamed blamed and i think that is the driving force and Chuck Schumer learned from that and will use a different playbook this time. Bob cusack. Thank you. And tomorrow morning on face the nation Margaret Brennan will speak with trey gowdy, the chairman of the House Committee on oversight and government reform. Friday capped off the worst week of losses on wall street in two years. The Dow Jones Industrial average lost 665 points yesterday. The biggest oneday selloff since the brexit vote in 2016. Since monday the dow lost 4 of the value but still up more than 3 since the beginning of the year. The slide was due in part to a positive employment report that showed the economy added about 200,000 jobs last month. The sign that higher inflation and Interest Rates could be on the way. Las vegas police wont say whether armor piercing bullets were used in the shooting massacre last october by a sniper at the mandalay bay hotel. On friday, douglas haig of mesa arizona who sold ammunition to steven paddock was charged with manufacturing armor piercing bullets. They say haig did not have a license to make suammunition. His fingerprints were found on the bullets. About 100 others were injured. A courtroom in michigan erupted in chaos friday. Reporter hours later margraves was in the back in the room facing contempt charges. I have to come here in support of his daughters and i look over and larry nassar is shaking his head no like it didnt happen. Who would put themselves through this. Reporter the charges were thrown out. We spoke with him after release. Im no hero and my daughters are the hero and the other victims. Reporter later he told us what he wanted to do when alone in the room with nassar. I didnt think about wanting to kill him, but i did want to inflict some pain. You were trying to help your daughters by sending him to this doctor. Is there is a feeling of remorse and guilt. Yes. There is. A lot of it. I ended up delivering unknowingly all three of my daughters to a demon that had his own personal sick twisted agenda. Ill never forgive that guy. Reporter hell be sentenced on monday. His jail time is in addition to the 60 years facing for child pornography and up to 175 years for the first Sexual Assault case that concluded. Adrianna die as. Michigan. I think everybodyt fath.
