Those freeways would include interstate 880 in the east bay, highway 237 in the south bay and highway 101 on the peninsula. Kpix5s different feel different devin devin fehely joining us now from the freeway. Reporter there is serious concern tonight about what one potential fix might mean for everyone else on the road. Our objective is to get those lanes moving. Reporter one potential plan to speed up the carpool lane is increasing the number of people per car from two to three. The idea is to make sure that there is an advantage, a time savings advantage, for carpoolers, thus promoting carpooling. Reporter the current proposal which ultimately would have to be approved by caltrans involves increasing the carpool lanes to three people on 880, 237 and 101, a socalled ring around the bay. Some are concerned the plan may drive people out of the carpool lane and simply slow down all the other lanes of traffic. The days that i cant commute the traffic is horrible as it is. So if its going to make that commute worse, then i really wouldnt like that to happen. Reporter for others the tradeoff is worth it. The commuter lane is still so packed. It really shouldnt be i dont think, but i think three would thats one less person, one less car that would be on the road. Reporter the goal, fewer cars and less traffic is far clearer than the road to get there. Now making this problem even more complex, carpoolers share the carpool lane with motorcyclists and people driving electric cars who presumably would not be affected by this policy change. In fremont along i880, devin fehely, kpix5. Its only the first week, but already bay area drivers are feeling the effects of the states gas tax hike. Reporter mickey austinreicher with the National PressPhotographers Association is one of the countrys leading authorities on drone laws. He said the faa federal laws preempt local ordinances. However any band passed would likely stand until challenged in court. An existing law would be modified instead of writing one from scratch.
