Firefighters will continue their attack on this ramping up the attack with more air attacks when the sun comes up. This section kicked up at 10 00 yesterday morning across Sugarloaf Ridgeline moving north from kenwood toward santa rosa. Firefighters waging attacks throughout the day dropping fire retardant with airplanes and water with helicopters as crews work to reinforce the containment line trying to stop the destruction. We have people sitting right on top of these homes. We have a fire truck sitting in the driveway because the last thing we want is to lose more homes. Reporter the fire was creating updrafts that kept fueling itself. There are no structures that have been damaged yet and firefighters are trying to keep it away from the city of santa rosa and the oakmont area. The weather has been working in favor of the firefighters. The temperature has been cool overnight and there is no wind so the air quality is terrible. Most of the evacuation advisories from the atlas fire have been lifted including for the city of napa and fairfield. Jessica florez is live in napa with the details. I am here at the incident base for the atlas fire. In the last couple of minutes we have seen something change. Behind me there are dozens of fire trucks coming in from out of town. I have seen several from Southern California as well as the big bear hotshots truck. There are some from the bay area in the city of newark but there is a lot of manpower which has changed in the last week. When we started talking about this fire monday morning they are stretched with not a lot of resources but now there seems to be a turning point and a handle on the fire with 65 per 10 containment. The fire has burned through 51 through 51,000 acres. That is the latest number here. Firefighters have strengthened control lines around the perimeter and they are trying to keep it for more property but evacuations remain in place for the highlands and the circle of community. Hundreds of residents are facing the task of sifting through debris. In this moment i realized you do not put your boots and gloves on to go sifting through stuff. The county will open an assistant center at the health and Human Services complex which will be open from 9 00 until 7 00 monday through friday and 10 00 until 5 00 saturday and sunday. County officials want to remind folks authorities will not be at the Assistance Centers and they want people to know the air is unhealthy here. If you have one of these masks you will want to continue to wear this. The county is getting a new shipment of the masks today, live from napa Jessica Flores, kpix 5. In Solano County in green valley homeowners were forced to evacuate and now they are expressing gratitude to those who prevented major damage to their homes. You start to feel sorry for yourself but then you realize some peoples homes were burned down. My heart goes out to them. Some folks could not even evacuate. I think people will hug each other more. It is almost like a feeling of this is really my neighbor. The 16yearold girl who prevented a financial hit helped by taking videos of her family home for insurance. 11,000 firefighters are beating back the flames and help is still coming with a dozen fire engines from utah starting the 700 mile journey from california. In total 17 states have sent crews to help with the wine country fires. We caught up with firefighters from oregon who got to Sonoma County wednesday night. Firefighters from as far as australia have come to help contain the wildfires. That number is growing now it is at 11,000. The whole state of california , this is the fire season so we have the santa ana winds with highpressure so we have warm air today and that is going to keep the forecast hot. The wind however will be staying calm which is keeping the smoke settled across the fire areas. Here is a look at the Current Conditions of the fire. Oakmont is 45 and calm, sonoma with a north wind at five Miles Per Hour. Humidity 62 so it is pretty humid with some moisture in the air. We expect to see humidity levels dropped to about 10 today because the wind will continue to come from the north. This is great news, some rain is expected over the fire areas. We may start to see this wednesday to friday, up to 3 10 inch of rain. That is for the napa hills and the north bay hills. This will be a welcomed sight. We will have to wait until wednesday thursday and friday when the storm system comes down but it is expected to do so. I will talk more about those two pictures and what to expect. We have reports of an accident through westbound 80 with two separate accidents. Things are slow and go across the east shore freeway with speeds in the teens and we have another crash we are watching on westbound 580 at the marina bay parkway. This is causing delays as you work to the area. The other big hotspot is westbound 92 at the san mateo bridge where two lanes have been shut down. You are backed up well beyond 880. Newly released video provides a closer look at fire burned in the coffey park neighborhood. On sunday night and monday morning of last week intense flames destroyed 3000 homes. This video from petaluma shows what it was like as crews responded. Drone video is providing a good look of the aftermath and with more here is Sandra Osborne. We were given special permission to fly over coffey park. The images that we are seeing are chilling. For the past week drones have been banned from the disaster zone. You can see how extensive the damage is. We have mapped the perimeter of the burned homes which is three miles around the area. The burn encompasses 200 acres from the santa rosa northwest side. We are talking about 2800 homes. Neighbors say they have been patrolling the area trying to keep looters away including some men who try to steal a gun safe. What is your message to anybody coming here . Let people go through their stuff and get their things. Reporter on the other hand we saw a heartwarming case of relatives finding a ceramic angel collection in the burnt rubble of a home that belong to a woman suffering from dementia. Assistance centers will be open for two weeks at the press Democrat Building on mendocino avenue. Survivors of the fires can apply for assistance at both centers. Definitely try to get there plenty before closing time to get your paperwork done. Homeowners in Sonoma County can sign up for a program to get their property cleaned up for free. It is called california recycle. The program that manages debris removal is funded entirely through state and federal money. Normally it can cost 75,000 because of the toxic Hazardous Material left behind in the ash. We understand that there is significant damage. We have to get out when it is safe for the crews and when it is safe for you to be there. We will not just show up. Homeowners can benefit by signing a right of entry form so workers can legally clean their properties. Pg e expects to restore power to all customers in the fire zone by later today. There are 22,000 customers without power in the north bay. In sonoma it is 16,000 customers and 4000 in napa are waiting for power to be restored. Pg e has dispatched 3000 employees to the region to help with response efforts. As the fires continue to burn concerns over air quality in the bay area are ramping up. We know that we have thousands of firefighters on the front lines and we have seen significant progress on the containment but is that enough for firefighters or is more help needed . The fire is very active burning very close to the nuns fire which is on the eastern side of highway 12. It is near glenallen near the town of sonoma. The oakmont forced evacuations on friday night as it is growing. This is a separate fire that ignited during the middle of the tubbs fire and the nuns fire. Joining us now is our financial reporter jason brooks on the economic difficulties that residents are about to face. Good morning, those difficulties will take some time and we are getting preliminary damage estimates in unincorporated Sonoma County. 3800 properties have burned with a damage estimate of 2 billion. Another 1 billion in santa rosa. Global ratings say that by comparison the 91 Oakland Hills fire which damaged 3000 properties would cost 3. 4 billion in todays dollars and these current wine country wildfires will far exceed that. Areas that depend more on agriculture will take longer to rebuild. As far as property is concerned structures historically in california after wildfires, the new structures are at least equal to or greater than the prior value. The big problem Going Forward is how the rebuilding effects of future tax base. Whether it is constant or if there will be a lack of building. That could have a longerterm effect on municipalities. Across San Francisco you can see the twinkling lights that dont look to be smoky or hazy for today. We have a spare the error alert in effect and the latest update shows some decent clearing with moderate conditions for san rafael. Oakland just bumped up a little bit to more of the unhealthy range. That is going to be in the forecaster at the day. We will have moderate or unhealthy for some throughout the bay area. Sunrise at 7 19 and that is when we will have a better view of the smoky conditions. Are high temperatures wont be feeling very good especially in the fire areas. Santa rosa 89, napa 88, sonoma 90 degrees. That will be hard for the firefighters but the wind is calm. Pity for san rafael, 82 San Francisco and pacifica 86 degrees. We have High Pressure over california slowly working east and when it does that will get the onshore flow with the wind coming from the coast helping us. Take a look at this low to the north. By the time this reaches california it will be wednesday night into thursday and friday. We expect to see some rain from that which could bring 1 10 inch up to 1 4 into rain by thursday. Look at the rain dropping off tuesday and wednesday and then here comes the rain clearing the air helping out the firefighters. By the weekend the sunshine will return. Commuter Rail Services will be opening two stations that were closed because of the wildfire issues. The stations to reopen are the santa rosa north and Sonoma County airport stations. The system will continue to offer free service. We will get a check of your mass transit and the morning commute right now. Mass transit is on time with no delays. The problem is the Traffic Alert as we work westbound at 80. Two separate accidents blocking the right wing. Major delays on westbound 80 very slow and go. Two right lanes have been shut down until further notice. One hour coming from the bridge headed toward the bay bridge toll plaza so that will take some time. We have another separate accident westbound 80 at Hilltop Drive and you can see traffic is slowing approaching the scene. From highway 4 there are stop and go conditions headed into oakland.
