Lets start with a live look outside. The morning rush about to start with traffic hitting the road as we look at the bay bridge on the left. There you go the interchange in dublin on the right we have all that traffic. Happy monday. What is going on out the there. We will have clear skies smelling less smoky today. Visibility should be fine with the smoke and haze because we have calm conditions. The wind is very calm across the fire zone and they will stay like that and then we are welcoming the onshore breeze getting wind from the coast tuesday and wednesday and then look at this chance of rain reaching us wednesday night through thursday. Here is a look at the fire burned areas. Calm conditions across the board which looks good across the monitors. A little increase in gusts at 10 Miles Per Hour but the expected rain totals will be a welcomed sight. I will explain when we should see the rain, but up to 1 4 inch expected for those areas that are burning. We have to wait a few days but i will explain coming up. On the bay bridge we have roadwork near Treasure Island on the upper deck causing a bit of a backup. Lanes will reopen at 5 30 so look at the live shot. Traffic is slow on the upper deck headed into San Francisco. The good news is it does not seem to be backing up at the toll plaza with traffic pretty clear as you work out of oakland. Now this is headed pass the metering lights which are not turned on yet. So far so good in the south bay. Now to the raging wine country wildfires that have left 40 people dead. The number of people missing is 248. The fires have burned 217,000 acres since one week ago. 5700 structures have been destroyed. The big trouble spots are north of highway 12 in Sonoma County we have the oakmont fire and it is the cal fire priority. That is where we find anne makovec. This has really been giving firefighters trouble all weekend. You can see the fire burning at the top of the hill behind me at Sugarloaf Ridge state park. This fire has been moving toward the nuns fire through the mountain so there is concern that could join up sometime later today that is when they will continue the aerial attack on this fire. This section kicked up at 10 00 yesterday morning across Sugarloaf Ridge line moving north across the hill tops from kenwood toward santa rosa. This has been fueling itself with the updraft through the canyon. Firefighters waged era tax yesterday dropping water with helicopters fire retardant with airplanes as crews on the ground worked to reinforce the containment lines with chainsaws and bulldozers really trying to stop the destruction. We have people sitting on top of these homes even though we know the area is evacuated we have fire trucks in the homes because we dont want to lose any more homes. Luckily cal fire has had a surge in resources. Crews and equipment coming from other western states. In sonoma 4200 firefighters are on the lines and those numbers doubled what they were at the end of last week. The good news, though weather has been working in firefighters favor. There is no wind right now and that is contributing to some smoky conditions on the valley floor. Live near santa rosa, anne makovec kpix 5 positive news from the fire lines in mendocino where residents evacuated from the Redwood Valley, Potter Valley and Pine Mountain areas are being allowed home. The 35,000 acre Redwood Valley fire is 45 contained. That fire killed eight people and destroyed 400. 5 homes. Most of the evacuation advisories for the atlas fire have been lifted including for napa and fairfield. Jessica flores is live in napa with the details. Things are starting to change in napa, for one week they have been focused on what happened to homes and now folks are turning to cleanup and rebuilding. A lot of the evacuations have been lifted. Firefighters are strengthening control lines keeping the fire from progressing to more property. It is 65 contained. Evacuations are in place for the highlands and circle communities. This fire has consumed 51,000 acres and burned down 300 homes. That means this week hundreds of residents face the agonizing task of sifting through debris. In this moment i am realizing you dont put on your boots and gloves and go through stuff. There is nothing to go through. Reporter a long road to recovery but residents can apply for financial help. The county will open today to help residents affected by the fire from 9 00 until 7 00 monday through friday and 10 00 until 5 00 on the weekends. Is located at the county health and Human Services center. Officials want to remind immigration officials will not be at the centers and the air is still unhealthy. You will want a mask and today the county will get extra shipments. These are the masks you will want to use to avoid some of this unhealthy air. This 16yearold prevented a major financial loss by taking photos and videos of their home for insurance purposes. Those affected by the fire can apply for federal disaster aid. Federal state and local agencies are brought together to help people rebuild their lives and move forward. I feel like we are ready to go home now but there is no home to go home to. People in six counties can apply for money from fema. The money is available for a variety of things including temporary housing. Rental assistance and home repairs as well as transportation and medical and funeral expenses. This is a onestop shop for the beginning of a long recovery. There is so much information for canceling utilities. Also rebuilding i mean, insurance information, property taxes, anything you could need. According to fema the best way to apply will be through this website. The Disaster Assistance website. That will be the best way to get started. In order to give benefits at least one person in the household must be a us citizen. All marin county schools plan to reopen today along with the college of marin. Schools in west contra costa will also reopen. Classes will resume at San Francisco state after being canceled because of air quality concerns. Santa rosa jr. College will remain closed for another week which includes a santa rosa and petaluma campuses along with forestville. More than 200 students and employees lost their homes in these fires. Some fire evacuees are waking up in bodega bay. The coastal town is located 70 miles north of San Francisco. It has become a refuge for hundreds of victims who are flocking to the beach. After the fire many evacuated to the town and some were sleeping on the ground or even in their cars. That is when patty realized she had to do something. She has opened up a restaurant to serve free meals. It is incredible i cant believe it. There are so many people helping. There is no fema it is just human kindness. She is also on the board of the Emergency Response team which helped build this evacuees center. As the loss comes more clear many residents in santa rosa are still in shock. It has been bad. We lost our home at 5 00 in the morning monday morning near fountain grove. The neighborhood looked like the holocaust. The only thing standing merchantmen. It will be hard for people to find places to live. It is great to see all the help. The fairgrounds looks like dday. Many volunteers are helping evacuees while hundreds of people are dropping off food, clothing and anything else. In coffey park, skydrone 5 gives us an exclusive view of the devastation. You can see the damage from the tubbsfire stretches to the horizon. The burn area covers about 200 acres. The perimeter is three miles all the way around. This used to be densely populated on the santa rosa northwest side. That is devastating to see that damage in those communities. Lets get a check of your traffic. We have a lot of closures around napa and santa rosa and sonoma. Highway 29 is shut down but when one is opened in both directions. Lets jump over to the bay bridge where there they have cleared the upper deck construction. We are still seeing some flight slight delays across the upper deck of the bay bridge so it is a little sluggish. Conditions are starting to improve just a bit but the company at is getting busy. Here is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza with traffic starting to stack up. It looks like youre moving okay 12 minutes from the macarthur maze into San Francisco but a little slow at the toll plaza. 8 880 traffic is light from 238 headed toward the maze northbound but we have a report north 680 at jaclyn road. Traffic is pretty clear along 680 with no major delays and lets go to the south bay and look at conditions working both directions on northbound guadalupe parkway moving a little slow but in the clear through downtown josi on the south side. Skies are clear this morning across San Francisco. Air quality will be poor for several days while the fires are burning. Currently temperatures are cool with clear and calm conditions at 50 degrees for concord, oakland 51, livermore 59, san jose 54 and santa rosa 44. Here is a look at the wind for the fire areas. East bay temperatures are in the mid to upper 80s and concord 88 degrees will be the high. I want to show you the rain in the forecast which is welcome relief coming down into the bay area. The increased chances are there wednesday through friday. We will have some rain and the amounts go from 1 10 inch up to 1 4 inch. Ireland is bracing for a major storm. Powerful storms like this are rare for that part of the world. Ophelia is considered a post Tropical Cyclone but it is expected to hit ireland and the United Kingdom was strong wind and heavy rain. It could be the strongest storm to hit ireland in 50 years.
