A tourist just wanted to take a picture near a San Francisco landmark. He was robbed and shot instead. It happened just after noon yesterday near the famously crooked section of lombard street. Anne makovec joins us live from russian hill with more on the man who traveled thousands of miles to visit the bay area and ended up as a victim. Good morning. Reporter its a real embarrassment for the city. This happened in broad daylight around noon in this busy area. This man was walking up the hill here on lombard street toward the crooked part of the street. Thats when a robber suddenly ran up behind him and grabbed his camera. The tourist took off after the robber and ended up shot. This is cell phone video of the tourist on the ground. He is okay. He was shot after another man pulled up in a dark car and one of two suspects shot the tourist during that foot chase. Tourists other tourists visiting the crooked street thought this was part of a movie shoot. Actually thought it was a move happening. So we came down and then we realized this was actually quite real so yeah, wanting to head back to the hotel and start packing. Reporter it turns out the victim, the man who was shot, the man who was originally robbed, is actually a pilot with the thai military. He was here on vacation. He was treated and released. He and also rest of the tourists who saw this go down have an unfortunate story to tell about their trip to San Francisco. Live in the city, anne makevoc, kpix 5. The two suspects sped away from lombard street bart street with Police Chasing them across the bay bridge to the Oakland Emeryville border. Thats where the suspects crashed. Mark kelly picks up the story from there. Reporter heres a look at one of the suspects that led police on the manhunt. Hands tied and strapped to a gurney, paramedics wheeled him into an ambulance. As for the other suspects, Police Arrested him several hours earlier. Jane brady saw it happen. Motorcycles came up beside him and he complied. They told him to get down on the ground and he got right down on the ground. Reporter police say the two men were on the run after robbing a San Francisco tourist of his camera and then shooting him in the shoulder. They crashed had burgundy cadillac into a pole near 60th and herzog in oakland before fleeing on foot. They clearly displayed a blatant disregard to public safety. These are people we dont want on our streets harming our citizens and our tourists. Reporter after arresting both men, police did find a camera near the cadillac. If its the same camera that belongs to the victim, i dont know. Reporter but we do know after a tense afternoon lots of sirens, helicopter noise, police. Reporter the manhunt is over and the two suspects hauled off to San Francisco. There was a report that the suspect while he was on the run attempted to kidnap a sixyear old boy in this neighborhood. Tonight police not confirming that simply saying at this time, there appears to be no intentional abduction. In oakland, mark kelly, kpix 5. This is the second shooting at a popular tourist spot in less than two months. You remember that kate steinle was shot and killed at pier 14 in San Francisco. A hearing continues today to determine whether theres enough evidence to try juan sanchez for the murder. During testimony a Police Detective said a tourist claimed to have pictures of a man walking away as people rushed up to help kate but none of those pictures shows sanchezs face.
