Concord and oakland up to 62, San Francisco 59 degrees at 7 31. Morning low clouds becominging mostly sunny later today and warmer temperatures today for most of the bay area. Well have your extended forecast coming up but first your headlines. Texas authorities this morning say five children and three adults have been found dead inside a home in the houston area after a stand off with a man with a gun. Deputies were called to the house after getting information that a man inside had a warrant out for aggravated assault. Then they forced themselves inside after seeing the body of a young child. The man opened fire so the deputies backed off. The suspect later surrendered about an hour later. Back in the area kim chambers is the first woman to swim from the farallones to the golden gate. Now, two weeks ago a shark forced a male swimmer to quit before he reached the golden gate. Northern california firefighters are mourning the loss of one of their own this morning. Yesterday a crew member was killed after being struck by a tree. It happened while bat singling a wildfire in a row motor area by lake tahoe. Well, all evacuation orders have been lifted. Well, outside land wasnt the only bigging draw to the area this weekend. Got ready for god to do something new,. The paster and his wife preached to a huge crowd at their americas night of hope event. There is music, celebration and praise. Thats a look at your top stories. As fire season kicks into high gear we received a dire warning from the governor. He toured the devastation from the rockys fire. He used it as an opportunity to for changes in an environmental policy. The fire in particular has been burning at unpredictable directions and moving very fast. The governor says that this is the new normal and predicting even more devastating fires just around the corner. Californias burning what are you going to do about it . And its not just california its extreme weather events throughout the country and the world. Its not a game of politics its a threat to our whole wellbeing and way of life. So at least come up with some response. The governor directed that message to republican president ial candidates. He warns that this is only the beginning of the season and august and september are even more threatening fire wise. You know, californias wild fires are going to become really a hot political topic even though he says its not political. He is making it political. And it is something that he has been in his second term in office. And really his whole career hes been talking about climate might change and concerns in the environment. Exactly. Now, the Us Forest Service also recently issued a report that said the fire season as extended about 78 days because of climb might change but legs note that one of the big parts of the problem is that we are building more and more homes in areas that are subject to fires. So we have a two prong problem here. And of course its about politics when youre talking about the muffin that needs to be spent. Exactly and buying up more and more of the state budget as well. But the question becomes if we are going to allow people to build in these areas are we contributing to the problem as well. The state has spent an extra 2 hundred 200 million on fighting fires over the last two years. And we are already on track to burn through half the annual budget. There are only so many air crafts and firefighters available. Prioritizing then is key. Firefighters, the public are physically threatened by fire, thats the highest priority. Property comes next, our Natural Resources and infrastructure follow after that. Fire and terrain will not get the same resources as a fire closing in on a community that goes to what you were saying. At some point maybe we need to think about where were building. Wild fires are a fact of life in the west. The question is how do you handle it. State regulators are are meeting this week to draft a new code of conduct. Its part of the California PublicUtilities Commission which has been shaken by news of relations with pg and e and other utilities following the gasoline explosion in 2010. The president , and federal and state and authorities opened several investigations regarding rate setting procedures. A code of conduct im surprised they didnt have one. Its called common sense. So now theyre trying to regain our trust. Exactly. Theres also questions about some Nuclear Facilities the south of the state and relations between the commissioners and utilities down there as well. So the problem is a little more widespread than just up here and thats part of the reason for this call for a code of conduct. And speaking of shady dealings also some accusations of San Francisco city hall as the mayor continues to defend himself. Hes talking about filings by attorneys alleging that the china town leader was being prosecuted for racket tiering while politicians who were also a target of the sting were given a pass. An undercover fbi agent who alleged did funnel 10,000 into the mayors campaign. Your reaction to learning the fbi has used undercover agents to funnel money into your campaign. We dont know that for a fact. Its an allegation. We checked every donation that we have. We do not know of any individual that didnt legitimately give to our campaign. While the fbis records show they did setup an operation, the feds have not exact him or his campaign about any specific allegations and that is a subject in a column this morning. Right the mayor is caught between a rock in a hard place. He doesnt know who they are or what they are but he has narrowed down to at least three checks that appeared to be the subject of the fbi sting, and hes turning those over to the again general fund. What interesting to note is all of this theres a question in the campaign how much of that ten 10,000 actually wound up in the campaign and whether or not some people might have syphoned it off. But its also interesting to note that in this case with the mayor the fbi was the one that went in looking for something. It wasnt that they were brought into take a look at something. This was part of a big string sting operation all around the bay area. Its also important to know no ones been charged in relation to this and theres been no evidence that the mayor did anything in return for any contradictions. Were going to here from our political insiders. A popular and positive event that happens every month on the street of uptown oakland. Our cameras stopped 2003 by two days ago and the festival seemed to be thighing. They are struggling, allegationses of mismanaging funds and recent resignation and a lawsuit he over unpaid wages. Definitely a transitional time for first friday. I feel it lacking the organizational structure that it needs to survive at this moment. Organizers say after 20,000 people come to first friday every month they ask people for donations but most people dont really give any. Theyre searching for a new Event Coordinator and looking for sponsor ships to keep it going. Theres some criticism maybe it grew beyond its means. You know, its something that people come from all over the area for for a good reason. Its positive. Right. Its a great story that it lasted this thing. Its taken on a life of his its own. Unfortunately you have to be fed and you have to be organized and all those other things. Well see if theyre able to well now you can buy quick picks while youre pumping fuel. It is californias latest attempt to expand the mega lotto market allowing people to buy up to 20 worth of quick picks right at the pumps. Just insert your credit card and your drivers license to prove that youre over 21. Its a change from the lotterys long standing cash only rules that were setup in order to cut down overspending by poor people and chronic gamblers. Last year the entire California Lottery system brought in five point five 5. 5 billion including one 1. 3 billion for schools and seems to be the push to get even more now. You know, as far as people getting to wrapped up in gambling feeling lucky at the pumps a lot of people dont because youre paying so much in gas. I went down there and tried it and tried to get lucky at the pump wasnt easy. It was a really it was really tough. Only one station doing it in the bay area, but theyre going to be expanding. Speaking of major flaw discovered in some models prompting important questions. A tech expert joining us to talk about cyber security,,,,,, 0. Cars recently received automatic mic Software Updates to for security flaws. They were able to take control of the car. They were able to open doors and show up false information. They vested that this particular hack required initial physical access inside the car but this does beg the question how are we going to protect our cars, our homes our it tees just about anything from electronic hacking in the future. And joining us probably the most insightful and informed person i know on this subject. Larry, cars and we have the jeep incident earlier someone is driving down the road and somebody can literally pull up next to you and hack your car and take it over. They were able to do it through the failure connection bullet into the entertainment system. And they can do everything, honk the horn, put on the brakes. So were living in a world now where everything is connected, your home is connected, your thermostat can be be not necessarily your front door lock can be controlled through a smart phone. All of this is hackable and its a world that we have to take some control over. Well, speaking of controls there dont appear to be any controls there dont appear to be any standards. Theres no requirement that anybody make these addons safe. Right. And the government is obviously looking into it. Theres already been hearings on cars and things, so, yes, there is a lot of concern industry obviously takes it seriously, but as you know, there will be sort of fall out over time until this is resolved. All right. When we look at these things, you sort of think, okay, its a one off, it took a lot of work to do it. How tough is it now and how easy can it be in a year or two. Good point. I think when it comes to your home its going to get a lot easier. Theres kits that can be distributeded so it might take a again i couldnt say to make the kits. Anybody else that request do this kind of damage. Lets take it on a practical level is there a day down the line where somebody could walk up to your house with a smart phone and with a couple of clicks open up your house. That day is today. What if its somebody else thats the problem. That day has come and i think we have to have better security. Im not saying its easy necessarily. You can try to keep somebody out of your Gmail Account but that doesnt mean it cant be done. Theres a difference between someone getting your Gmail Account and even someone getting your personal information and somebody be able to drive your car off the road. Absolutely or force you to drive your car off the road. No, youre absolutely right. Is there needs to be much better security, and i think this is something that industry and government and consumers got to be focused on. Industry is interested on doing something on this. A lot of times with smart phones just to get a kill switch, no your hampering innovation. Right theres always going to be the initial resist tans. You dont want to build the brakes you want to build the motor to make the car go faster, right. I think it is important that a washington take notice of this but its also important that companies all right but can government keep up with this . Theres the picture of the car being driven off the road. Is this the responsibility of industry, theyre the ones selling the system. Ultimately, its the responsibility of industry all government can do is keep their feet to the fire and make sure that they meet certain standards but ultimately industry has to solve the problem and you cant create government regulations that are so specific that they cant the regulations themselves cant keep up with technology. We seem to be surrendering a lot for convenience we are but on the other hand were getting a heck of a lot of convenience. Eventually year were going to have cars drive themselves. Thats the big question. I understand, you also have a nonprofit out there by cyber and cyber security. You recently put out a parents guide. Yeah. Connect safely. Org. This particular guide is really aimed at families and parents to help your kids stay safe and secure in your own home. So the next thing were going to have driveless cars. It can be but on the other hand as we age, it can be a god send to be be able to travel without actually having to drive the car. The question is whos going to be driving. Thats the big question. Larry thanks for joining us. Heres a beautiful shot. Partly cloudy. There are some how loads out there in the bay area but a little more sun to start off our morning than what we saw yesterday morning. Heading out the door some morning low clouds becoming mostly sunny later this afternoon. Two to four degrees warmer than what we had four for our saturday. Lets take a look at some of the highs. 82, 79 in fremont, union city 77 degrees today. 73 in hayward. Our highest temperatures brentwood at 90 90 degrees. 86 in danville. Fairfield 89 degrees today and concord 88. Around the central bay, 73, San Francisco for outside lands festival 70. And the north bay 82 degrees. Now, the sevenday forecast. So a little bit cooler as we head into the start of the work week monday and tuesday were going to start to see a few extra clouds roll in both tuesday and wednesday. Before those temperatures rebound and start to warm up for the end of the work week going right into whats looking like a nice and warm weekend. Donald trump continues to make comments and offended people on both sides of the isle. Isle. Coming up a,,, isle. Coming up a,,, it took leonardo and miriam years to master the toss. But just a few little steps to master depositing checks with the chase mobile® app. Technology designed for you. So you can easily master the way you bank. 0. Well, tomorrow president ial candidate better than nissan did he say is going to be in the bay area. Hes going to be meeting with members of the Largest Nurses Union in oakland when yesterday he was shoved off the stage by a rally. He gave up and didnt end up speaking. He was one of the very small crowd of president ial contenders from the left but his competition from the right is now power house hillary clinton. One day after the debate trump screwered him who questioned him about how he treats women. I think we have his comments. You might have heard them actually already this week. He was talking about do we have them . If nothing else we know that hes made his remarks about her saying that she had fire coming out of her eyes. No, he said blood. Blood, thats right. And thats brought quite attention to him, and questions about donald trump. So we sat back with our insiders and said okay can he sustain his game or is he out of it . Absolutely as a matter of fact what the competition the donald is in the game period. Theyre hoping to get him out early but no way. He will eventually fold but not now. What does his presence continue to do for the Republican Party bring it attention or controversy or both. It brings both it helps some of the other dan candidates take the spotlight off of them. There was a great article about how the Bush Campaign is loving this. Now, trump is sort of sucking up all the air and taking the focus that would otherwise go to other candidates. His comments last night had i not generated that and it is obviously the truth. If you were a democrat however and watching that field, who did you think came out the most challenging . Who would you not want to be running against at this point . What you dont want is a republican that can get dream democratic votes. The governor of ohio clearly was the one republican last night for sure that could cut into democratic votes and penned votes. You want driven who probably cant get any votes by the time of the election. Its more and its who doesnt scare, sometimes not who theyre for but to who theyre against. I dont think cu cruz was around. I didnt see him. And paul may get recalled simply because of his conduct and christie is going to have to pay his way so at least three people were in trouble. Hick barks the odd one from 2008 and 2012 is no longer working. It didnt have the have a near. I agree and i think ben carson could be added to that list. He is a candidate for not making it. Way up. Way up. I would have to disagree that i think that christie did a good job. Exactly because he had the glasses on and it was interesting because what this debate did was get a number of people a First Impression of the candidates on the republican side. I think thats really exciting. I mean, its getting a lot of people into politics that otherwise wouldnt have been who didnt know anything about these candidates but now we have a lot of people involved. Lets not forget about the people that maybe people did not see a few hours earlier. If youre putting together the show the question is do you keep the donald and then you have to bring new talent into this. Wait a minute is this a debate or reality show wheel continue to follow it. Meantime a homemade gun like this, used in the bay area murder suicide. The parts were ordered through the mail. Now, we learned more about these socalled ghost guns and why they would be illegal.
