They were conducting a follow up investigation that was associated to a Sexual Assault that occurred on the officers shift. So there were still continuing a preliminary investigation when their investigation led them to the 3800 block of mar kin luther king. When the officers arrive what had we do know arrived what had we do know arrived what we do know at this time is that the suspect presented himself with a rifle and shot at the officers. One of the officers was struck by gunfire. Both officers returned fire. With multiple officers at the scene. But both officers returned fire. The officer and suspect were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The suspect is deceased. The officer is undergoing surgery this morning and listed in stable condition. I know that there are many questions that not only the media has, but our community has as well. I can share with you that we have our Homicide Investigation here. We have our internal Affairs Division and also the Alameda County district attorneys office. So we have three levels of investigation. We certainly want to share with you has details as many details as we can. As the investigation continues. But we dont want to compromise the case at the same time. Trains are back in service between oakland and San Francisco after the transbay tube was shut down for maintenance over the weekend. Crews had to replace a section of crossover tracks. Transbay service is scheduled to be closed again over the Labor Day Weekend and just four weeks. The Transit Agency says the shut downs may be inconvenient but the maintenance will benefit passengers in the long run. What were doing is rebuilding a mechanism on the track thats called an interlocking which allows trains to move from one side of the track to the other.
