Yesterday the District Attorneys Office announced 15 yearold Adrian Gonzalez will be prosecuted as an adult for murder, kidnapping and sexual assault. He could face life in prison if convicted. When they looked at it as the murder of a small child and what else happened, the crime rose to the level that he needed to face societys greater punishment. [ music ] and some social media posts by gonzalez suggest he may have been dealing with depression. According to the San Francisco chronicle, sources say gonzalez told police he was thinking about suicide and killed the girl to see how people would react. In about four hours a procession begins to the site of the Hayward Police sergeants funeral. Law enforcement officers will he is scored the body of scott lunger from hayward to oracle arena in oakland. Closures will be in effect along interstate 880 northbound and on its onramps there. They decided to hold it here at oracle arena to accommodate the huge crowds expected here today not only officers from around the state, some from other parts of the country. 48yearold scott lunger, sergeant, was killed a week ago yesterday during an Early Morning traffic stop. It happened in a residential neighborhood in hayward. Sergeant lunger was the father of two college aged daughters. He had been with Hayward Police force for 15 years. Outside of police headquarters, friends, colleagues, firefighters and people who didnt even know him came to pay their respects over the past week and about 10,000 people are expected here today. If i could just ask that you come out and support us as we actually celebrate what scott gave to this community with his work ethic, with his tenaciousness, the mentoring, the leadership and the coaching, that would be the greatest honor that you could give our police department. Reporter in order to allow all Hayward Police officers who want to, to attend todays services, the Alameda CountySheriffs Office is patrolling the streets of hayward right now. They will be until tomorrow morning and they say the streets are fully covered. And the police chief in hayward said that Sergeant Lunger really likes the ceremonial part of things so they are planning on honoring that today. They say he liked to have it big and bold. The conditions prompted mandatory evacuations for hundreds of people. A picture sent by a viewer shows flames rising behind a neighborhood near clearlake. The smoke is visible for miles. This photo is from the other side of the lake. The fire is burning on the east side of the town of lower lake near Morgan Valley and rocky creek. The fire got close to a backyard. At least eight air tankers and eight helicopters are working on the fire from above. A trailer was burned. Mandatory evacuations are in place for people who live in a five mile stretch of Morgan Valley road. The wragg fire, in triple digit heat, 200 people evacuated with road closures in effect. 7100 acres have burned. The fire is 80 contained. 4 35. However, we have a lot of subtropical moisture moving into the area so its going to be muggy and then we have the risk of thunderstorms in the high sierra and that could cause some fire danger. Temperatures in the 60s it is now 67 after that 107 yesterday in the livermore area. Todays numbers coming down. Well not see any clearing at the beaches today in the 60s. Investigators are looking into what caused the partial derailment of a Freight Train in sacramento county. 14 cars went off the tracks yesterday near the town of galt. Union specific says the train was carrying Consumer Products including dry goods, rice and wine. Nobody was injured, no major effects of rail traffic since other tracks are available in the area. Could be the biggest clue yet as to what happened to a Malaysia Airlines passenger plane that vanished without a trace more than a year ago. More now from cbs news wendy gillette. Reporter an investigation is under way on reunion island this morning where the 6foot long piece of an aircraft wing was found yesterday. Sources tell cbs news the debris appears probable a boeing 777, the same model as the missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370. Experts have identified it as a critical piece of the wing known as the flaperon which could be marked with valuable serial numbers. There will be markings that will tell boeing that its from the boeing 777370. Reporter its the first possible breakthrough in the search for the missing flight. The plane was flying from kuala lumpur to bay bridge in march 2014 when it vanished with 239 people on board. Since the 777 was first introduced in 1994, the plane is the only one that has ever disappeared over the sea as well as south of the equator. This begins a search that in fact tells us that somewhere near this, potentially, we should find other bits and pieces of the aircraft. Reporter search teams have focused their efforts on a large area in the southern indian ocean off australia. More than 2,000 miles from reunion island. No trace of the plane has ever been found. Wendy gillette for cbs news. Today a Police Officer at the university of cincinnati will be arraigned on a murder charge. Ray tensing is accused of shooting Samuel Dubose to death during a traffic stop on july 19th. Dubose was unarmed at the time. Yesterday the prosecutor released the officers body camera video. At one point you can see he says he does not have his drivers license. The officer orders dubose to get out of the car. Dubose restarts the car and thats when tensing fires a shot. People dont get shot for a traffic stop unless theyre violent towards the Police Officer, and he wasnt. Obviously, hes devastated as am i. I mean, im not shocked that there was an indictment. A murder indictment just astounds me. The Prosecutor Says the officers claim that the car dragged him is not true. Tensing could get life in prison if convicted. 4 39. Firefighters in San Francisco have put out a house fire in the castro district. The first calls came in just before 3 30 a. M. On castro street near 29th street. Crews found heavy flames burning at the front of the building as you can see there. They got the fire under control a few minutes ago. The house that caught fire is under construction or renovation. It seems reasonable that bicyclists should have to obey traffic laws but those in San Francisco are saying no. Police are cracking down on cyclists and drivers part of a new traffic campaign. People are getting busted for things like red light violations, failing to stop for pedestrians and stop signs. But cyclists protested yesterday saying police should crackdown on drivers. We believe the more potential you have to cause harm in our streets, the more responsibility you have. The Bike Coalition says the protestors also saw the to demonstrate when cyclists stop at stop signs it causes a complete traffic mess. People who support senator Bernie Sanders of vermont for president held dozens of parties last night in San Francisco. The democratic candidate live streamed a speech from an apartment in washington. His Campaign Says more than tens of thousands of backers attended nearly 4,000 meetings and that included one at a bar in the mission in San Francisco. This is a campaign about individuals, not big money. So it may have a few bumps and warts and whatever but its passionate and its energized and people are really moving. The campaign has gotten 15 million so far largely from small donors. Sanders is still about 30 million behind Democratic Front runner hillary clinton. In the race for the republican nomination there are now, count them, 17 candidates in the running. That is 17 candidates right there. The latest to announce is jim gilmore. He is 65 years old and served one term as governor of virginia. He is a former Army Intelligence officer and made a brief run for president in 2008. One of those 17 candidates is of course donald trump and he is taking some flak for something that happened four years ago. He criticized an opposing attorney and a new mom who wanted a break during a deposition. She wanted to breast pump in front of me and i may have said thats disgusting. I may have said something else. I thought it was terrible. She is a vicious horrible person. Well, the attorney involved says she only asked for an hour to leave the courtroom. She characterized trumps reaction back then as a meltdown. We cheered him on but a man came close yesterday to becoming the first person to swim 30 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge to the farralones. Simon dominguez started tuesday night. His family kept him nourished along the way throwing him protein drinks in a bottle and i cant say im surprised about this because, um, you know, frank and roberta were talking about, 18 hours in and three miles from his goal his daughter spotted the fin of a great white shark. Of course they got a photo of t the skipper of the boat made the call to end the swim. Swimming around and then started moving straight towards me and thats when i thought it was probably a good idea i got out of the water. It was hard in that i really wanted to finish the swim. I was very determined to finish. But, um, a shark sighting. Probably good to get out of the water. He has a sore throat from saltwater and stiff neck. He hasnt decided whether he will try it again. You talked about that yesterday right . Oh, my gosh. But theres great whites all over there. So much to say, 30 miles, he was three miles from the farralones which roughly it takes me about an hour, 18 minutes to swim 2. 4 miles so he was probably less than two hours away from accomplishing that amazing goal and he was doing it without a wet suit. This man should be just given so man accolades. His partner is going to attempt. This she is going to swim from the farralones to San Francisco. So its a little different.
