The case Police Originally called a hoax appears to have been a well planned abduction. But as kpix 5s andria borba tells us, if the victims are expecting an apology from city liters, they will have to wait. Reporter vallejo city leaders said many words about the Denise Huskins kidnapping case but none of them were sorry. If we were to speak out now, um, short of seeing the completion of the investigation, um, we could be wrong again. At this time we are not we are going to hold off on that until we the investigation is concluded and then well evaluate it at that time. Reporter the citys official line is were waiting until the fbis case wraps up. Among the items the fbi collected after arrest 38year old Matthew Muller for the crime were three drones from this vallejo Storage Facility. In the criminal complaint, the feds quoted a rambling email they say muller sent to the San Francisco chronicle. Muller allegedly said, he and his coconspirators used them to surveill the mare island neighborhood prior to abducting denise. The feds also found videocameras wirelessly set up allegedly to let the suspect monitor aaron inside his home to be sure he was following their instructions after denise was thrown in a trunk. While most in vallejo city ranks werent breaking the thin blue line, Councilmember Bob a 30year vet of police work offered up this to denise and aaron. Of course i would want to say im sorry that they have had to go through this. I know both the attorneys involved in this case and its difficult for their clients as it would be for anybody that would be involved in this kind of an incident. And as victims, i think that our city should have been a bit more sensitive in the way we dealt with them. Reporter a retired fbi agent says there may be another reason for the wall of silence from the city of vallejo. And that may be an impending lawsuit or the possibility of a civil grand jury and the citys Police Department getting called in front of it to explain how they handled denise and aaron. In vallejo, andria borba, kpix 5. This case just keeps getting more bizarre. The affidavit says the kidnappers were actually after the boyfriends exfiancee. Reporter its been nearly a month since that tragic day and the memorial still sits on the sidewalk right behind me after a lot of discussion over the past month about how the city will respond a decision was made last night to tighten up building inspections. The city Council Passed the new inspection laws unanimously. That means in the next since months, all balconies on properties in berkeley will need to be inspected. Other regulations will still need to be decided upon such as the use of steel reinforcement in all balconies constructed in berkeley. And the next six months, all balconies and weather exposed elements on all Berkeley Properties will be inspected. A followup inspection will happen every three years after that. An attorney representing one of the students killed in the collapse argued it needed to happen much more frequently. That idea that people would come up here and say that there should not be inspections with some frequency or that you should halt the emergency action, i think, is unbelievable under the circumstances of this tragedy. Other regular nations will need to be decided upon such as the use of steel reinforcement and other material used in all balconies and weather exposed elements constructions in berkeley. The city council estimates that the inspections will affect about 6,000 properties. At this point, the city doesnt believe it has the resources or the money to get this done and thats still the question at this point. They will still need to find a exclusion to that.
