In a terrible coincidence, this is actually the second officerinvolved shooting on this street. It was on the fourth of july in 2016 that police shot and killed an 18yearold man on feller street. His mother telling us tonight that her son was suicidal and needed help. San Francisco Police say two innocent bystanders were shot when gunfire erupted during a fistfight in the bay view district. It appears the victims were riding inside a silver car that got caught in the crossfire at third street and palau avenue at 2 20 this afternoon. Paramedics rushed both victims to a trauma center. They have not said if theyve made arrests. Abc 7 news was in berkeley where this guy was dancing on top of his car on the shoulder of i80 Near University avenue as the morning commute moved past him. From there he led police on a chase across the bay bridge, down highway 101, through the peninsula, across the san mateo bridge, and eventually back in the east bay in hayward. How this man finally got trapped. Reporter from dancing in the back of a truck stopped on i80 to speeding across the bay bridge. Chp says this metal rodwooeld wielding man is Anthony Nelson sorrell, 28 years old from south San Francisco, who led chp around the bay. It started in berkeley at universityaround 8 30 a. M. You can see him scratch his back with the rod. On the freeway sky 7 captures sorrell at times waving the rod out the window, taking both hands off the wheel as the truck drifted across lanes. Sky 7s sky map Technology Estimates speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour. Sorrell turn south onto 101, sped down the peninsula, across the san mateo bridge, and back into the east bay, ending in hayward. You can see the glass in the intersection where chp deployed their pit move to stop the driver. Sky 7 captured it from above. After pushing the truck, officers surrounded it and safely pulled sorrell into custody. We were trying to stop this in a safe manner. He could have hurt a lot of people, what do you have to say about that . Its never good to elude, failure to yield, for anything. Youre putting the motoring public in danger. Reporter chp says sorrell is the registered owner of the truck, facing several charges and may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Nobody was injured during the chase. A bay area ballet instructor facing more than a dozen child molestation charges. Abc 7 news was in daly city at the West Lake School for the performing arts where victor kubaniav recently worked. The 54yearold also worked in contra costa and san mateo counties. Police arrested him friday at his san mateo home on 16 counts of aggravated Sexual Assault involving a child under 14. The District Attorney office says the assault happened while he worked in contra costa county. Well have reaction from parents tonight on the abc 7 news at 11 00 on channel 7. San francisco public works crews have removed a fallen tree that forced traffic to be detoured for hours. Abc 7 news was on fillmore street this afternoon after the large tree landed on top of some utility wires. Muni had to defer jize those wires before anyone could start cutting up the tree. That caused problems for the 22 bus line. Muni had to add shuttles to the route. Just about an hour ago, everything was cleared and buses are now back on schedule. Trouble in the air sadly after the pilot of a small plane died when the aircraft crashed at the old Concord Naval weapons station. Sky 7 flew over the scene today. The single engine cessna crashed neros of concrete bunkers once used to store explosives. Federal Officials Say the pilot was the only one on board. They have not reveal the if the pilot had just taken off or was headed to nearby buchanan field. A recent change at facebook is having an impact on police and government agencies. The social media giant has changed its algorithm and people may not see as many of the posts police want you to see. Abc 7 News Reporter janine de la vega explains. Lately the department has seen a decline in users reacting and engaging on its facebook page. They say its due to a new algorithm. If people arent seeing our consent or cant ask questions or connect because were not in the see first option on the facebook page, thats concerning. Reporter earlier this month, Ceo Mark Zuckerberg announced facebook was changing its algorithm so users would start seeing more posts in their news feed from family and friends, rather than businesses, brands and media. Government entities like Law Enforcement have been put into the category of private business. We saw today in lexington, kentucky, a Police Agency out there had posted on their facebook page, they were looking for a missing atrisk teenager. Facebook removed the content because they said it didnt meet their community standards. Reporter lisa, who oversees communication and social media for the city of palo alto, says the city may have to rely more on other social media platforms like twitter and next door, especially when it comes to emergencies. Of course were always concerned. And we do need to very closely monitor this. Reporter facebook released a statement saying, we are always working to make sure people can get local information on facebook during an emergency and are committed to aiding local organizations and providing them tools and training to get the word out to their communities. A spokesperson told us facebook is testing a new feature in six states that connects users with community news, including updates from Law Enforcement and government. Speaking of Mark Zuckerberg says the social media giants next update will focus on shoelg showing more highquality, trusted local news sources. Zuckerberg wrote, starting today we are going to show more stories from news sources in your local town or city. If you follow a local publisher or if someone shares a local story, it may show up higher in the news feed. He adds, local news helps build community, both on and offline. If you havent seen this, federal food safety officials joined in the investigation of raw meat being delivered to a San Jose Grocery store unwrapped an investigation began last week after tote toes were posted of men delivering the meat to the 99 ranch market. Today the usda issued a statement saying it is working with local investigators and will determine any action. The meat vendor, jims farm meat company, out of the central valley, says it has fired both employees. A federal Appeals Court will reconsider an earlier ruling blocking a San Francisco law to require Health Warnings on ads for sodas and sugary drinks. The warnings passed bit board of supervisors in 2015 would say that drinking the beverages contributes to obesity and diabetes, along with tooth decay. The American Beverage Association sued. A ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Panel said the warnings were onesided and would violate advertisers freedom of speech. Today the full court said a majority of its judges voted did grant the citys request for a new hearing before an 11judge panel. San francisco nurses held an informational picket to protest what they call eroding patient care conditions. They protested outside st. Marys Medical Center at fulton and stanyan saying Dignity Health has proposed removing charge nurses from all units and theyre expecting registered nurses to work 16hour shifts. San Francisco Police arrested two teens in connection with a deadly shooting. 20yearold dubie ortiz was killed in a shooting last tuesday on lees street and richland avenue in bernal heights. Police say tonight they arrested 18yearold oscar diaz and 19yearold jorge howard. Diaz is facing murder, attempted murder, and other charges. Howard is charged as an accessory. Two teenagers are accused of running down a Richmond Police officer at the scene of an illegal sideshow. He is out of the hospital and recovering at home tonight. A dark sedan slammed headon into a Police Officer on foot, throwing him up on the hood and into the street. The car was abandoned nearby. The registered owner of the impounded car showed up at a south San Francisco location trying to report the car stolen later sunday afternoon. Reporter police moved in and arrested the driver, 18yearold juan vargas, and 18yearold genesis casstenada. They both are accused of conspiracy and filing a false police report. Across the bay area, sideshows are happening more frequently. Here police say in the past, drag racing and sideshows have been problems in industrial zones. But in this event, it took place along busy regatta boulevard in a residential area two blocks from a police station. Its almost like they were taunting the police, come catch us. The Highway Patrol and Oakland Police teamed up to arrest a man suspected of pointing a laser at officers in a helicopter. A chp helicopter followed the suspects car and directed oakland officers to his location. Oakland Police Arrested a 23yearold man from pittsburg. He could face both state and federal charges. A San Franciscobased fitness app is apparently compromising u. S. Security. Some u. S. Troops overseas use it and the pentagon says they could be inadvertently revealing classified or sensitive locations. Clayton sandell has the story.
