Thank you so much for starting your weekend with us. Im kira klapper Cinthia Pimentel has a quick look at our microclimate forecast. Certainly windy earlier this morning. Are we going to have to and a bit chilly too. It was just a struggle to get out of bed, but good for those people that are taking advantage of the path. This morning were starting with that may gray again down here through the south bay, san jose. Were seeing it up into San Francisco as well, and in through the north bay. Also a foggy and cloudy start for our day up there in san rafael. Were starting off in the temperatures this morning. If youre finding yourself along the coast. Also, maybe some drizzle by the time that we get into the lunchtime hour, some spots will are struggling to warm up. But then as we get on into the afternoon, our inland valleys in the 70s once again breezy. Were in that pattern and up until the coastline i can see the models staying with that cloud cover hugging the coast. So ill walk you through the rest of this weekend forecast. There is so much going on, but for now, ill send it back to you, kyra. All right. Cynthia, thanks. We want to begin with a heads up for anyone who needs to use interstate 680 in the east bay. This weekend. Lanes are closed once again this weekend for that big repaving project. We have video of caltrans getting to work last night, closing several lanes of the very busy freeway. In fact, as of nine last night, heres a look at three southbound lanes and one northbound lane closed for about two miles from san ramon to pleasanton today in the bays pizzaritos has more on when this pavement Rehabilitation Project and weekend closures will be done. The weekend commute through san ramon along 680 south will take longer than usual, with caltrans closing off three lanes as a part of its ongoing repavement work. Of the much traveled freeway. And those who use it say its much needed. But theres a lot of potholes that we do have to encounter, and its a lot of risk for our tires and cars, right . It needs it, but it sure is taking a long time. The closure will impact a two mile stretch between el costa boulevard in san ramon and the five 8680 interchange in pleasanton, ending before the monday morning commute. The previous closures this year, addressing repavement work on the freeway were further south along 680, reaching all the way to sunol. So what were trying to do with these weekend closures is to limit the exposure for our workers, but also to accelerate this project to make sure that were able to condense those over 100 days of work into just three days. Over the weekend, caltrans officials expect the 680 south repaving project to be completed by 2026, which means drivers will have to pack their patience with more closures to come. The end result is what were all hoping for to, you know, have a nice, smooth highway thats not throwing you from one lane to another. Now, another closure will take place here at this same location at the end of may. But this closure, we should wrap up before that monday morning commute. Pete serratos today in the bay. We turn now to a new alert from the state department for americans traveling internationally during the month of june. The warning says that lgbtq plus people and pride events could be targeted by extremist groups. Today in the bays gia vang explains this on a friday night inside the cinch saloon, one of the oldest gay bars in San Francisco is greg kirsch. Well its a shame that we have to go back in time. I mean, really, greg is talking about this worldwide alert that came down from the state Department Warning u. S. Citizens traveling overseas to be careful, especially if at popular tourist venues and lgbtq events like pride. It cites the potential for terrorist attacks, demonstrations or violent actions. It also goes further, saying there could be more generalized attacks against u. S. Citizens and interests. We immediately put it on our social media. We had members immediately asking if it was real, since it was, phrased in such a broad manner, because while the alert is for travelers overseas, many will be traveling to San Francisco for pride. One of the largest lgbtq plus celebrations in the world, welcoming 1 million attendees for the festivities and parade. According to the groups website. S. F. Pride declined to speak to us tonight, but this is also connected to the warning the fbi and the department of Homeland Security put out earlier this week that foreign terrorist organizations could target pride month celebrations at home. We would like a plan to keep our community safe, to make sure that visitors coming to San Francisco, especially since our city is reopening, our doors to tourists, that we keep our queer tourists, welcome and safe in the city. The Mayors Office and sfpd didnt respond to a request for comment. But earlier this week, the Police Department said in response to the fbi and dhs warning it will be working with local, state and federal partners to ensure a safe pride. An event many in the saloon still cant wait to celebrate. I think San Francisco will do just fine. You know, people here are very aware adversity will win overall and were strong. Lets just let let lets not let that, deprive our right to express who we are. Gia vang today in the bay the man of convicted of breaking into the home of former House Speaker nancy pelosi and attacking her husband, is sentenced to 30 years in federal prison. David depape stood mostly motionless in court yesterday. The u. S. District court judge who issued his sentence said she took into account the fact that depape had no prior criminal record, but weighed that against the violent nature of his attack on paul pelosi and says the sentence is appropriate because depape intended to harm then Speaker Nancy Pelosi had she been home in court. Christine pelosi read victim impact statements on behalf of her parents. After the hearing, depapes son condemned the three decade sentence. I think thats quite sad, i think thats a really long time because if you think about it right, hes already nearly 50. Hes hes basically its just a death sentence. The judge ordered depapes federal sentence to run concurrently or simultaneously with any time he may be ordered to serve. If hes convicted of state charges. Jury selection for that trial begins next week. Investigators are reviewing video of a clash between police and protesters at uc berkeley thursday night. 12 people were arrested, only one of them a cal student. The propalestinian demonstrator took over an abandoned building owned by the university. Uc berkeley says some officers who moved in to arrest protesters were assaulted by people with crowbars. Police are working to id those people who attacked them and say more charges could be coming. Meanwhile, at sonoma state university, the president is retiring as students graduate today. Earlier this week, president mike lee announced an agreement with the propalestinian campus protests, including a pledge for the university to divest from israel. Wednesday. He was placed on leave. The csu chancellor says president lee had offered concessions that Cal State Trustees never approved. Then late the next day, thursday, the chancellor announced lees retirement a multimillion dollar budget shortfall for one bay area county could put the public at risk. Thats according to the Santa Clara County district attorney. The county is facing a 251 million budget. Deficit leaders released a proposed budget to deal with the shortfall, and in it, they suggest that several departments eliminate jobs. The da says hes being asked to cut 20 of his 62 detectives, a proposal he says could prove dangerous for people who live in the county. I think this is the first time that i have ever been as concerned about Public Safety as i am. If these cuts go through, there will be more guns on the street. There will be more fentanyl. There will be more rapists, there will be more gangsters. There will be more child molesters, and there will be a lot less safety for everyone else. Meanwhile, Santa Clara County leaders argue that cutting 20 detective positions would bring the das office to the same staffing level. It had just five years ago. Now to an update on a story we brought you earlier this week. Antioch police now say that a man found dead on a sidewalk was indeed the victim of homicide. They have identified him as 48 year old raheem coe. Police had responded to a call wednesday morning on Country Hills drive near the antioch health center. And thats where they found the man dead. Police are not revealing how he died, nor any persons of interest in much lighter news and announcement from the coast, where capitola town leaders are announcing they will partially reopen the wharf as soon as this summer. That may gray through San Francisco, but it doesnt really matter once you start walking and running, no matter what youre wearing or not. Then it just, you know, i have never done the event goes on. But as far as the, fireworks out in santa cruz, thats something that people want to know, right . A huge celebration, a milestone. But all through our Camera Networks, we are starting off with that may gray through San Francisco. Temperatures in the 50s. And as we go on into the summer, the terms that youre going to be hearing a lot of may gray june gloom, no sky july and fog. So just keep that in mind as we go on into the season. As far as the fireworks go for tonight and into tomorrow morning down into santa cruz, most of that cloud cover will be San Francisco and south. So im sorry if that ruins the fireworks, but
