When we take a look at whats normal for this time of year, santa rosa is usually at about 80 degrees, but were headed for 94 today. San francisco reaching 87 degrees. We are usually in the low 70s. Oakland reaching 90 this afternoon, with a normal High Temperature of 73 degrees. Were usually a lot milder than this as we deal with heat thats going to ramp up to the upper 80s today, and its going to be pretty hot tomorrow as well, especially for the inland valleys. So well have more on this, and also some events going on this weekend. Mike, you were looking for a traffic break. Heading toward powell, exactly where were looking. It may be just on the other side, the traffic coming here off of the bay bridge. Reports of a motorcycle crash. Its opposite your commute direction at the berkeley curve. Today is the final day in the threeday strike impacting Kaiser Health care facilities everywhere. We have a live look at san jose medical center. Quiet now, but keep in mind, 75,000 kaiser workers across six states and washington, d. C. Are striking. About half of that total is located in northern california. Doctors and registered nurses are not part of the strike, and while temperatures and Emergency Rooms remain open, many nonessential procedures are being postponed. New hiccups this morning in oaklands prolonged search for a new police chief. The Application Window is being extended, according to the chronicle, which cites a statement from city administrators saying the applications will now be accepted through next friday. The previous deadline was last friday. Critics will be quick to point out that oakland has now been without even a short list of candidates since leronne armstrongs firing in early february. Right now the Police Commission is at a standstill due to infighting. Oakland is making way for hundreds of new license plate readers. Last night the commission authorized the plan. It calls for 300 cameras to be placed in certain crime hot spots. Supporters argue the cameras will help police track down criminals in real time. Some commissioners are raising concerns over privacy issues. We dont want to put any information in the system and then officers yank the wrong people out of the car for the wrong thing. Police say the information will be thoroughly vetted. The proposal now heads to oakland city council. New reports this morning, President Biden may be planning a facetoface meeting in San Francisco with chinese leader xi jinping. The meeting would take place next month and the white house is still trying to nail it down. The meeting is, quote, pretty firm, and u. S. Were seeing starts anywhere from the mid50s in the north bay to 72 right now in martinez, 73 in los gatos. We are seeing a range in temperatures for the start of our morning and this is where were headed. Its going to be heating up all across the bay area, with upper 90s expected today. Los gatos reaching 99 degrees and 95 in san jose. Much of the east bay reaching into the upper 90s, and even oakland hitting 90 degrees this afternoon, and reaching 96 in livermore. And Half Moon Bay up to 85, another beach day, and in the low 90s in redwood city. San francisco, back into the upper 80s and low 90s this afternoon, and reaching 94 in santa rosa, 90 in napa. We are seeing a large area of High Pressure causing a lot of heat across the region, and the storm track is being driven well to the north of us. But as the High Pressure breaks down, were going to see the return of the rain chances early next week. So were looking at about monday to the tuesday timeframe, the possibility of some showers moving in. But it looks like most of the rain is staying north of us. Well see the temperatures heating up, once again, and possibly by next weekend we could see some more very warm weather, which, of course, increases the fire danger as we get to the peak of how dry the vegetation is. Then as far as rain that we could see for next week, possibly about a half inch of rain in these areas in green for parts of the north bay. Most of the rest of the bay area is really not going to see much more than a couple of sprinkles. We look at our inland temperatures going from upper 90s today, really high heat, and the heat advisory continues into tomorrow evening as well. It will be a little milder on sunday, but still pretty warm. We get a little bit of a break from the heat for the first part of next week as the rain chances increase. Low 80s for the middle of next week inland. San francisco keeping an eye on whats happening because of fleet week and the air shows. Were going to have a big change in temperatures, going from 90 today to upper 60s by the end of the weekend. Mike, how is it looking in the trivalley . Were looking toward dublin, traffic flows very well on 580, out of the altamont with mild slowing to the dublin interchange. Getting to 580, there may be an issue. We set a record yesterday in Half Moon Bay, reaching 90 degrees during the middle of the afternoon, when our old record was just 82 degrees. So it did heat up even along the coastline and its going to be another hot day today. A heat advisory going into effect starting again at 11 00 this morning, and continuing through tomorrow evening. Were looking at temperatures in the upper 80s to near 100 degrees. Make sure youre reducing outdoor activity, drinking more water and theres an increased risk of heat related illness. Looking at the commute, we are going to see temperatures in the east bay in the mid60s. It does ramp up quickly, going into the mid80s at noon and eventually reaching back into the low to mid90s for much of the bay area. Mike, you have more info on the crash near vasco road. It involves a deer, and we know this time of year we do hear about Deer Crossing the road. Its the season right now. Reporter and, really good morning to both of you of all of the flights this week, theyre really dedicated to her, according to one of the pilots we talked to who grew up in San Francisco, who said he was inspired by fleet week and the flyovers here. A great place to see all of the shows here, marina boulevard, where we are at marina green, where a lot of the military equipment is staged, or up the road at chrissy field where large groups will, no doubt, gathering to see the air shows this week. And they are really all dedicated to the late senator, who brought fleet week here way back in 1981 as mayor, and then was a champion for the Defense Services as a senator. The blue angels honored the late senator with a flyover at her memorial thursday, and one of the pilots told nbc bay area theyre all thinking of her when they step into their cockpits this week. Shes been such a champion for the United States and for the city of San Francisco, and really responsible, in large part, in getting fleet week here and having the blue angels here. Reporter the Lieutenant Commander actually grew up in San Francisco, and he said fleet week flyovers and the celebration itself inspired him to become a naval aviator and a blue angel pilot. Todays air show starts at 12 43 with the national anthem, flag jumps, then the navy parachute team, and at 2 16 an f35 flyover. At 3 15, the blue angels will do their aerial stunts over the bay. There will be a couple more dedicated flights by a civilian pilot team both saturday and sunday afternoon. Watch for those schedules. Well keep you up to date. Vandals Late Wednesday caused some serious destruction there to spina farms in morgan hill. Workers say the Security Guard on duty actually confronted four people, and its believed that one of them may have somehow dropped their cell phone. She held her own and, no, im calling the police. They all took off when they heard the police were coming. Law enforcement tells us they did, in fact, receive a cell phone as evidence, but at this point theyre not talking specifically about who the phone belongs to. Happening today, an east bay couple charged in connection with the abuse and death on a toddler in their care will make their first court appearance. News of the toddlers death first came down on monday. At the time it was being called a bathtub drowning. Prosecutors say investigators later learned the suspects abused and tortured the child and the prolonged abuse led to the unidentified toddlers death. The couple, a 22yearold and 21yearold, are accused of the prolonged abuse of a second child as well, an infant. 5 35 right now. The infamous former gynecologist accused of abusing hundreds of women over decades has been found dead in his home. The 76yearold was awaiting trial for more than a dozen sex crimes, but was free on bail and living in his l. A. Home, where authorities found him yesterday. The cause of death has not been given, but foul play is not suspected. A live look in san jose this morning. This is where transit leaders have now given their approval on a plan for 200 new tiny homes. The homes will be built in vt as cerone yard. Last night Board Members approved it, after giving into the pressure from San Jose City council. Vta preferred to have the homes be spread out over several properties, and wanted assurances for adequate security. But, ultimately, they approved unanimously. Mayor matt mahan is applauding the teamwork. As the public held us accountable for working together and getting to an outcome and taking bold action, we got there. This is just one step, one site. Its going to be heating up today and were going to see temperatures really starting out cool, but heating up. So theres going to be a big range from the morning to the afternoon. I know youre standing in front of the closet, like, what do i wear today . Its in the low 70s at 9 00 in oakland, and then were headed for the low 90s as we go into the middle of the afternoon. So definitely layers are best because you want to be able to peel them off and put them back on as temperatures change. Upper 90s today in morgan hill, 99 in los gatos and milpitas today reaching 94 degrees. Were also looking at a lot of mid to upper 90s for much of the east bay. 98 in concord, and also another hot one today for parts of the coastline, Half Moon Bay reaching 85, and 92 in palo alto.
