Meteorologist, kari hall, has been monitoring all of this. The temperatures are looking nice right now but we are seeing them ramp up today. Absolutely. This is the time of year where the coastal areas as well could reach into the mid80s and 90s. Temperatures starting out in the 60s for martinez. Its 66 in san jose. We know its going to be a hot day, and heres a look at how hot it gets with widespread 90s across the bay area. The good thing is we are not seeing really extreme winds, but still an elevated fire danger as we get low humidity and highs reaching into the mid90s for much of the north bay, and upper 90s in san martin, and then upper 90s in concord. San francisco near 90 degrees as well. We are going to be tracking this and all of the Outdoor Activities lead into the weekend. Thats coming up in a few minutes. We will check back with you. A final fair well to Dianne Feinstein. Her Memorial Service takes place after two days of mourning. Now her funeral is a private event and not public anymore because of security. Thousands came to pay their respect in a public viewing there. The response so enormous Visitation Hours were extended by an hour. Another iconic former San Francisco mayor, you see him there, willie brown, said feinstein would have loved the large turnout. They are all here responding the way i think she would have liked to respond, and they were responding with sparkles of joy just to be able to say goodbye. And former speaker and close friend, nancy pelosi, stopped by, as did mayor london breed. Each are speaking today at her service. The kaiser strike is affecting kaiser Locations Nationwide from california, oregon, washington and virginia. Its day two of the Largest Health care strike in u. S. History continuing. According to kaiser, they did come to an agreement late tuesday on several proposals. According to a statement by kaiser, quote, they said we remain committed to reaching a new agreement that continues to provide our employees with marketleading wages, excellent benefits, generous Retirement Income plans and professional development opportunities. They started the strike yesterday and more than half located in california, many in the bay area, of course, and the rest are in oregon, colorado, Washington State and virginia and the washington, d. C. Area. The main issues are cost of living increases, which is pay, and lack of staffing. Both sides admit that kaiser which is the largest Nonprofit Health care provider in the country, and they both admit its not back to prepandemic staffing. As a result workers claim patients are increasingly having to wait weeks and even months for appointments. We are so short staffed. We keep telling them we have been doing this since the pandemic three years ago, so it does affect us. It gives us burnout and its not safe for our patients. Reporter registered nurses and doctors are not involved in the strike. The hospitals and Emergency Rooms remain open. Some nonurgent appointments, however, and elective surgeries might have or have been rescheduled because of the strike. We know outpatient pharmacies also closed. The strike here in california is supposed to last three days. Yesterday was day one, and today is day two, and its sz from 6 00 a. M. To 6 00 p. M. Until tomorrow. Right now its in the low 60s, but temperatures will be going up quickly, heading already in the mid80s by noon, and then reach into the mid90s for an afternoon high. We are going to see upper 80s in Half Moon Bay for an afternoon temperature. Mid90s for much of the north bay. Upper 90s for the south county look at that, tomorrow san martin hitting 90 degrees, and 99 in morgan hill. An elevated fire danger will continue as well. On saturday, it will be pretty hot with san jose reaching 92 degrees. We will talk more about this and also what is ahead as we lead into the weekend, and when we cool down coming up in a few minutes. Mike has a look at lower gas prices. Yeah, we have 5. 05, and very few spots have these prices, below 5. Richmond, we are looking at 5. 05 at quick serve. And then its 5. 19 in marin county at marin gas, and its on magnolia avenue. Parts of california will see it as well including shasta county, north of the bay area. We will have 80 of the moon blocking the sun. We will get a pretty good view of it but you have to go well north of the bay area to get that kind of view of the ring of fire. Nemo reminds me of ring of fire. Was that it . No. Marking the calendar, not this saturday but next saturday. A decent time. Good time of year, and hopefully its cooler. We are dealing with heat right now, and we have a heat advisory in effect for parts of the bay area this morning. Temperatures starting out cool for now, but we are headed for the upper 80s and nearly 100 degrees for parts of the bay area. Make sure you are drinking lots of water. There will be an increased risk of heatrelated illness and an increased risk of fire danger as well. Lets look at what to expect in Half Moon Bay. We are at 63 degrees at 8 00 this morning. Its going to heat up pretty fast there reaching in the low 80s. Heads up to be careful near the waves, especially if you are not used to the currents we have here along the coastline, and it can be dangerous as people venture out further into the water. Our high temperatures for today head to the mid and upper 90s. Feeling like a blast of summer here that continues for a few days with highs reach into the low 90s for walnut creek. In oakland today, 91 degrees. In daly city, 86 there. In Half Moon Bay, we are reaching up to 88 degrees. 90 in the Mission District, and north bay temperatures in the mid to upper 90s. The high heat continues tomorrow into saturday, and early next week we could see a big change, a drop in temperatures and even parts of the bay area getting some rain. It does look like it warms up for a little while in the middle of next week, but another chance of rain for next weekend possibly as we are looking out for the Solar Eclipse. Early next week we are going to see temperatures cooling down as we get the rain. This is a look at what the rainfall estimates shows, the potential of some of us could get half an inch of rain. If you are in San Francisco, not a lot of rain in the forecast. Maybe a few sprinkles, but the more accumulating rain will be in parts of the north bay. Looking at a big dip in temperatures. I am so looking forward to that, because it will be so hot the next few days, and reaching into the mid90s, and then feeling more comfortable on sunday, and then next week back to a falllike feel. Would not be surprised if parts of the city reach into the 90s, so we will watch out for that. Over here in the east bay, things have been steady. Contra costa county wakes up early, slowing on highway 4. The build is right here, this portion of westbound 80 has seen the most slowing the last 30 minutes. Nimitz, down through hayward, it eases up around fremont. The south bay, a little slowing on 280 approaching downtown san jose. Nothing big going on, but thats a little unusual. A build for 101 northbound starting up again after the first burst happened about an hour, 45 minutes ago. San martin and morgan hill, this will push up in the south bay and cause more slowing as the volume of traffic continues to build here, san martin past san jose. Back to you. Thank you, mike. It affects her ability to pay debt, and cover basic necessities for her and her family. Advocates are pushing for new legislation to call for better payday tau reporting and new increases to the federal minimum wage. Taking a look across the bay area, where many will be experiencing the fall heat wave. Lets check with meteorologist, kari hall. Shes tracking the hot conditions for us. How hot will it be today . It will be in the 90s for some, and it will be a big change from the nice temperatures we have been having. A heat advisory this afternoon, starts at 11 00 for san jose. We are in the upper 70s already at 10 00. At noon were in the upper 80s. You can see how quickly the temperatures ramp up today. Any Outdoor Activities, if you have Something Like running errands or if you are doing outdoor sports, you try to get it in as early as possible, because this afternoon it will be dangerous for overexerting yourself in that kind of heat. We are seeing 90s for much of the east bay, and north bay reaching 94. San francisco heating up into the upper 80s and may even reach into the low 90s there as well. Even hotter for parts of the south bay tomorrow afternoon as we see upper 90s and even triple digits. We will take a look at what is happening this weekend and when we get a cooldown, in a couple minutes. Thank you, kari. There are important changes for anybody planning to attend the Memorial Services. Reporter very important change to take note of, marcus and laura. The planned public memorial is now no longer open to the public for security reasons. That is the change and the big announcement that was made late last night. As you can see, there are still quite a number of people who are expected to attend. The chairs are already set out this morning. 1,500 guests invited to the now private memorial outside San Francisco city hall just by those steps. San Francisco City hall also the site of powerful images as the senators body lay in state. Thousands of people came to pay their respect, so much so that the hours had to be extended. One of the powerful images from yesterday is the one of late senator Dianne Feinstein as she left San Francisco city hall for the last time, a place she was very familiar with as the president of the board of supervisors, and the first female mayor of the city, and its where her career began after the assassination of the mayor and harvey milk. You can hear the gay choir reverberating off the rotunda of where she lay in state. And willie brown said the late governor would have loved the turnout. They are responding with sparkles of joy just to be present to say goodbye. Former speaker of the house and close friend of senator feinstein, Speaker Nancy Pelosi came as did mayor london breed. Images of grief and gratitude from thousands. As for todays now public sorry, now private memorial here, there are a number of highprofile speakers, including Vice PresidentKamala Harris, and Senate Majority leader chuck schumer, and nancy pelosi and london breed will be here. And a taped message from joe biden will be played. And the most personal tributes will be from feinsteins granddaughter, eileen mariano, who also works for london breed. And Kamala Harris is expected to arrive before noon to make it for the memorial. Laura . Yeah, ginger, she was so nice and she was a u. S. Senator, and she represented our senator, californias senator, no matter what side of the aisle you are on. And all services will be closed today at city hall because of the memorial. Developing right now, the Largest Health care strike in u. S. History enters its second day. Want to give you a live look at kaiser in dublin. 75,000 medical assistants and xray and pharmacy techs are on strike. Kaiser says while the settlement is still not reached, it does have tentative agreements with the union including one on minimum wage. Also hospitals and Emergency Rooms remain open. Meanwhile, San Franciscos School Workers are threatening to work off the job. This week Service Workers voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike, and that includes cafeteria and custodians. Negotiations are ongoing and they have been working on a new contract since 2020. And a swimmer is still missing, believed to possibly have been killed by a shark attack. The tech entrepreneur was an avid swimmer and was last seen swimming on sunday with two friends off the coast of point reyes. Other swimmers reported somebody being attacked by a shark. The magazine says she was a native of gambia, and his body has still not been located. A key vote today might need more help for those struggling most in the bay area, and the vta is to vote if tiny homes should be built, and the homes would be a steppingstone to more permanent housing. The funding is in place. And the city calls it the most viable option in san jose. Lets take a peek outside this morning, and the sun coming up over the bay area with a live look at San Francisco. Later today you can expect the return of that familiar roar. The blue angels are expected to do a practice session ahead of fleet week. That show will air tomorrow. A sneak peek for you. And the show will include the Patriot Jet Team memorial squadron. The blue angels will perform every day, and they start about 3 00 p. M. But it could vary. I understand they will do a formation as well for the late senator Dianne Feinstein. That will be nice. The thing is, warmer weather means clear skies. Its perfect for the event. Yeah, its perfect. When it cools off, you have to keep an eye on the visibility and sometimes you get fog right over the golden gate bridge. And we have warm weather for a lot of events going on. We are going from the mid80s for tomorrow afternoons high to upper 70s on saturday. Then a drop of about another ten degrees by sunday. We will have to watch that visibility as well as we only reach in the upper 60s. There will be a lot going on around the bay area go into the weekend with napa blues, brews and barbecue appearing in napa on saturday. It starts at noon and it will be in the mid80s. Make sure you are hydrated and keep Drinking Water and wear sunscreen throughout the day because it will reach up to 90 degrees, and it will be clear throughout the day. We will wrap up the weekend right here with the Football Game that will be the 49ers right here on nbc bay area shown, or if you are lucky enough to go to levis stadium, it will be warm reaching into the low 80s and a light wind as well. If you are going to the beach and want to hang out and watch waves, monterey will be in the upper 70s tomorrow. A significant cooldown by the end of the weekend as we see the return of the coastal clouds and the fog. It will in the reaching 91 degrees in los angeles, and dropping back into the 80s for saturday and sunday with sunshine there as well. Mike, you are seeing traffic bogging down out of hayward now . Yeah, 92 saw the volume build over the last few minutes. We have seen the censors slow. By the time you get to the highrise, everything moves smoothly with the build into and out of hayward, and mostly out of hayward and into union city. Theres a crash at stevenson, and its northbound but there could be another one southbound, because more slowing is popping up in the last 90 seconds, and we will watch that heading south towards milpitas for southbound 880. There was one lane blocked here, and we found the source of the slowing, and chp reported a disabled vehicle head into downtown, so we are watching that. Fleet week and the funeral at city hall will cause polk street to be blocked all day. Have you seen these blowing around in the bay area, a weblike substance . What is it . For people heading to the beach today, be mindful the water temperature is still in the 50s. We have very turbulent waves and dangerous rip currents as well. We have these nice warm days occasionally for the coastline. We will talk about when we all get a cooldown coming up in a few minutes. We are looking at oakland, the nimitz freeway, traffic heading northbound past the coliseum. Things are more heavily travelled on the southbound side. We have a couple crashes in the area, and we will talk about those coming up. We will check back with you. Its going to be really hot for not only parts of the bay area, but pretty much everyone, including San Francisco. We will have one of the hot october days where we even get the coastline heating up. It starts out clear, and not even a little bit of fog in the sky. We are going to be sunny throughout the entire day. Lets take a look at our trend in dublin. We are in the upper 60s at 9 00, and at 11 00 its 82 degrees, and you can see how fast the temperatures go up, reaching into the mid90s with some of the hotter temperatures, and the hottest temperatures of the day at 3 00 to 4 00 in the afternoon. Then starting to come back down around sunset. As you see the 7day forecast, its already up at the bottom of the screen. Look at your microclimate, and its not only hot today but temperatures will peak tomorrow. It will be hot on saturday. Before you make the outdoor plans, look ahead in the forecast. We will see mid to upper 90s in the south bay. Even oakland headed for the low 90s. 94 in concord. Upper 80s for daly city and in Half Moon Bay. In San Francisco we will hit the low 90s in the downtown and Mission District areas. For the north bay, 90 in mill valley and 96 in ukiah. As we deal with the high heat across the region, it will back off by the end of the weekend as we prepare for a change in our pattern that could bring about a bit of rain. Looks like most of the rain is further north to the bay area, but we will see a quick ramp up of temperatures and then a bigger cooldown possibly as we go towards next weekend. The first round of rain, possibly half an inch of rain but theres not a lot of it as you go south of San Francisco. That blue area is about 0. 1 of an inch of rain or less. There could be half an inch of rain or more for parts of the coastal northbound. We will watch out for that for tuesday. In the meantime, we are focused on the high heat, the heat advisory that continues through tomorrow evening and reach into the low 90s on saturday. Some 70s in next weeks forecast, and cant wait for that but we have hot temperatures in the city for today and tomorrow as fleet week continues. Mike, you are seeing more slowing in Contra Costa County . Kari, we are looking at typical patterns and then in the last few minutes we see slowing through walnut creek, so i timed out your drive through walnut creek. Almost 45 minutes for that drive.
