Time er, the speaker of the house is out, and putting congress in unchartered territory. Good afternoon. Im aubrey asistio, and by tomorrow, the biggest strike could be hitting Kaiser Permanente. And two infants died at a day care, and we have the latest on how they got into a backyard swimming pool. We will look at the historic vote on the house floor and House SpeakerKevin Mccarthy has been officially removed as House Speaker. The office of the House Speaker of the United States house of representatives is hereby declared vacant. Eight republicans joined in including florida Rep Matt Gaetz who led the effort, and the first time a House Speaker has been voted out. They accuse Kevin Mccarthy by breaking promises to republicans by working with democrats to avoid a government shutdown. And this time, the dems would not save his job, and now he is speaking. Lets listen in. I dont regret choosing governance over grievance. It is my responsibility and my job. Our government is to find compromise. I dont regret my efforts to build coalitions and find solutions. I was raised to solve problems and not create them. So, i may have lost a vote today, but as i walk out of the chamber today, i feel fortunate to have served the american people. I leave the speakership with a sense of pride and accomplishment, and yes, optimism. From the day i entered politics my mission has always been to make tomorrow better than today, i fought for what i believe in, and i believe in this country of america. My goals have not changed. My ability to fight is just in a different form. We need 218, and unfortunately, the republicans can join the democrats and dictate the speaker of the house, and that is not good for the institution, but maybe i am the only one. I will continue to fight in a different manner, and i will not run for speaker again. I will have the conference pick someone else. Whether you had confidence in me or not, i grew to enjoy even on the toughest days and questions, i could tell what day it was based on the questions. Monday you would ask if i could pass the bill. Tuesday is whether the rule would pass, and wednesday was the greatest challenge ever to my speakership and thursday when we passed the bill, you didnt think it was a very big deal and then it all started again on friday. You know, i would not change a thing. I do believe i have a portrait, too, of Teddy Roosevelt in there and you all know the man in the arena awho errs time and time again, and if he tries in high achievement and if he fails, he fails at least while dares great. I always like to take a risk. Saturday, i took a risk for the american people. All right. That is former now House SpeakerKevin Mccarthy speaking after he was officially removed as speaker of the house. The former House Speaker saying that he would not change a thing, but he is proud to serve the american people. We will have much more for you coming up at 5 00. So help you god . I will. Congratulations. Meanwhile, Laphonza Butler is now senator butler sworn in today filling seat of Dianne Feinstein, and Kamala Harris administering the oath, and she is the first openly lgbtq person to represent california in the chamber and she lives in maryland, and the spokesperson says she has reregistered to vote in california this is day ahead of Dianne FeinsteinsPublic Memorial Service tomorrow at the San Francisco city haul. We will have much more on the Funeral Services coming up on the newscast. And back home, we are learning more about the two children who drown did at a Home Day Care in san jose. According to santa clara Coroners Office, both children who died were 1yearold. One of the victims is a girl from holhollister. The police made their first comments on the case today, but they did not provide much more information except that the investigation continues. The officers at that time did respond to a welfare check jointly with the Fire Department to investigate a call of several children in a pool. Upon ar rival we discovered that two of the children were in severe medical distress. All three were transported to medical institutions. Reporter it is unclear if they were released from the hospital. The police are trying to determine how three children gained access to the pool which is surrounded by a fence. Homicide investigators are looking into the case and the d. A. Is trying to determine if charges should be followed. Marianne favro will have more on the case at 5 00. We are hours away from Largest Health care strike in u. S. History. 5,000 Kaiser Permanente workers will hit the picket line if a deal is not reached. Ian has been following this. Yes, they say they are not bargaining in good faith, and more than 37,000 Northern California workers could walk off of the job. It could affect e. R. And xray technician, and ultrasound sonographers, and hospitals will remain open. The workers are upset over the wages and the lack of staffing. The poll conducted by the union found that 2 3 of the workers have seen patient care delayed or denied due to short staffing, and it is a claim that Kaiser Permanente is disagreeing with. We are burnt out and we cannot go any longer with what they are offering us. Two questions for you, ian. How is kaiser responding, and which areas will the patients be impacted. They are still working to avert the strike, but if one happens, the patients can expect longer wait times and hold times on the phone, but also has plans in place to ensure high quality care will continue. Now, in case you have to reschedule the nonurgent appointments and procedures, and they will reach out the the patients as they are affected, and as they reach out at the negotiating tables, they will have workers leaving for similar positions at an organization, they will have to take a 20 pay cut, and one executive says it is about wages and not staffing. It is tough across the country in terms of the staffing shortages associated with the great retirement, and the great burnout, but the matter is that k. P. Is doing better in terms of retaken our employees. So if the two sides dont come to an agreement that strike going to start at 6 00 a. M. And wewill be following those developments as they come available. Thank you. We are learning more about the accident that left a woman pinned under a robo taxi in San Francisco. We brought it to you breaking last night. The fire crews had to use the jaws of life to get her from under the car. We have learned today that she was the victim of a hitandrun, and the cruise car was not the first vehicle involved in the car. The woman is in the hospital and the hitandrun driver is on the run. We have scott budman following up on. This and scott, you were able to see this . Yes, the autonomous cameras are in the car, and it is not easy to watch, because it is someone being hit by another car, but it is showing robo taxi driving ahead, and hitting the victim who is then going to fall into the lane of the robo taxi which stops but not in enough time before it, too, hit the woman. She was taken to sf hospital with injuries and you can imagine, and again, it is hard to watch, but it is one of those things that we are giving extra attention to, because it is a robo taxi involved and how does it react, and does the technology understand. And there are a lot of questions and especially when it is coming to the robo taxis. So when you are hearing of these situations, are there concerns when it comes to this how the robo taxi responded, or, you know, is this even possible for the robot . Well, the concerns are valid and should be put out there, and if we put ourselves behind the wheel and an accident happened in the other lane, would our Response Time be as fast as the robo taxi or faster . There is no way to know how any one would react, but the robo taxi stopped as fast as it could, but they are regretful for how the whole thing went down, and that is the thing, machines learn, but how do they compare to us out there on the road, and this is the big question they are asking of the tesla selfdriving, et cetera, et cetera, and we dont have the answers obviously. The politicians and the city leaders who have been saying that these things are getting a little bit ahead of themselves were worried about Something Like this happening, and now we are dealing with the reality. Speaking of getting ahead, and scott, and you and i have been talking about the concern of the robo taxis in San Francisco, and pushback in peninsula because of the possible rollout at sfo. Yes, and the robo taxis are trying the go from downtown San Francisco to sfo and back, and what is interesting is that not only freeways involved, but also theres San Mateo County involved, and i spoke to the San Mateo County leaders who spoke to San Francisco and this may spread out the reach of the robo taxis if they are allowed to do that and as we see what has happened is that is going to happen in already crowded airport traffic. These are not slowing down, but a lot of people want them to, and that the ongoing battle. I know that you will stay on top of that for us. You bet. And now, from the east bay, what is sparking is protests and it is not built yet. Activists are trying to slow what they are calling a police playground. The city leaders gave them the green light the train and not just their officers is, but cops from neighboring cities, and there is pushback from the reformed a voe cats. And nbc bay area Jodi Hernandez is joining us from costa contra county, and can you tell us what they are planning to build here with this Training Facility . Well, a coalition of stop the cop campus is protesting to say that it is not what they should spend their money on, and training facile city not going to make them feel safer. It is where about 100 protesters marched to the two acre site to express their outrage. That facility is going to be the new San Pablo Police headquarters, and they say that it is simply going to outgrow the building they are in and they cant house all of the 88 employees they have under one roof. So it is going to serve as the new San Pablo Police headquarters, and it is going to serve as a new regional Training Facility, and it is going to include a 20lane indoor gun range, and a stateoftheart equipment including a Virtual Reality training room, and i understand that there is nothing like this in west contra county right now, and so it is going to be utilized by a number of agencies throughout the region. Now i have to point out that even though there is a big group of people who are opposed to this in the city of san abpablo in the city actually support it overwhelmingly have made it known that the Community Leaders are the Top Priorities and crime is down in san pablo, and that they want to keep it that way, and the people for or against the new facility, jodi, and when can we expect that to be done . Well, they are supposed to Start Construction any day now, and in the month of july, that site is going to be fenced off. So construction again should begin any day, and it is expected to be complete by february of 2025, but protesters say that we have not heard the last of them, and they are planning more protests, and you can expect them to show up at city hall meetings, and this is far from over. Okay. Jodi, we look forward to the full story tonight. Thank you for the preview. What is a disappointing season for the giants in the books and the man in charge is already looking to the future. The president of baseball operations zaidi met with the media as gabe kapler was let go after four years at the helm, and he talked about free agency and how the team was hoping to appeal to big named talent. One of the big positives of the season is how many players came up and being a part of the team and Organization Going forward. That is going to be a key part of the pitch is that we had a really good group of rookies, and we have more guys from the system coming up to help us in the next couple of years. The fans are hoping that the giants will make a push for Shohei Ohtani of the los angeles angels, and we will have to wait for more on that. And now, we are working on the 5 00 news, janelle, and what are you working on . Well, the pg e is what the city council is deciding on whether to create its own Utility Company and ditch pg e, and they say that it would lead to a bigger savings for customers, and they are going to have a vote right now, and we will have more on that. And we have found a sunnyvale woman who comes from a immigrant family, and she knows about the struggles to come to america, and she is helping the Refugee Families get settled in and get comfortable with their new homes in america. It is a very interesting bay area proud story. We will look forward to that. And your inbox could look less cluttered and the new trending today, would you pay to use inta gram or facebook . They are calling it a miracle year, and talking about the socalled water year that just ended, and the California Water year goes from septembertoseptember, and so this is the beginning of the new year. Last year, storms dropped this under 34 inches of rain and snow on the state, and this is 141 of the states average as the Water Department prepares for the day ahead, and it cannot predict what is going to happen this year, and however, the return of the el nino is going to return more moisture to california and we have talked about this, and el nino, and bringing out more moisture, and last year, it is amazing.
