Into the office because of the pandemic. Now i can do it, visit them. Reporter for Brian Lee and his wife, Todays Appointment has become a unique way of celebrating their wedding anniversary. Actually its our tenyear anniversary today, right. Were getting vaccinated today so its kind of exciting get being back to normal life. Reporter but with every californian 16 or older now eligible for the vaccine, the looming question is whether we have enough supply to meet the new demand. Were seeing a lot of interest and there is the demand is high. Luckily we have a little more vaccine now. Reporter but Santa Clara County Vaccine Officer Dr. Marty finstersheib said its hard to predict supply. When the federal government supplied an unexpected 300,000 Vaccine Doses to the county. Next week the county is expecting just over 70,000 Vaccine Dose from the state, but says that number could go up again. So, i think the bottom line is we have no control over the supply that comes in on a weekly basis, so we just find out week by week how much were getting. Reporter so the county is advising people to stay patient and persistent when hunting for your appointment. People need to be persistent and checking back, not get frustrated. If there is not one today, there will be an appointment maybe tomorrow or in a few days. Reporter in Santa Clara, feet seratos, Nbc Bay Area news. There is a curious problem. Contra costa county, two new Popup Vaccination clinics have plenty of doses but no one is coming. The county has teamed up with the state to open up no appointment needed vaccination clinics in richmond and antioch. Each site has enough vaccines to administer 500 doses a day. But theyre using less than half of that because people arent showing up. Look, no lines. Those who did get a Vaccine Today say word is just getting out and they tell us they appreciate having a clinic so close to their homes. I just came in, signed in, and then showed up came in, signed in, and then sat at the table and got the vaccine. Didnt feel a thing. Its free, no waiting, just show up. And really, its designed to get the vaccine to where people live in their community. The clinics will be open through april 25th. Then theyll reopen in three weeks to administer those second doses. While theyre designed for those who work and live in Contra Costa county, the county says nobody will be turned away. Well, many people are experiencing mild flulike symptoms after the second shot. Fever, headache, body aches and chills. I spoke with a ucsf infectious Disease Specialist about what that means, and also reports of vaccine accidents happening. People getting the wrong second dose. Heres dr. Monica gandhi. We are hearing some people are having reactions after the second shot. Why are some people getting those symptoms and others arent . You know, usually the immune response in any twodose regimen or three dose regimen is boosted. You have a higher immune response after the second shot. People are feeling that, theyre feeling fever, some people feel muscle aches and body aches, and some people are tired, have headaches. It is common in the clinical trials and also in the Realworld Population to have these more after the second shot because the first shot actually primes your immune system and then the second shot makes all those immune cells sort of burst out. However, the important thing to say is that actually if you dont have any symptoms after the second shot, that doesnt mean your immune System Isnt working. They rarely saw in the clinical trials high efficacy even those who didnt have symptoms after the second shot. There are reports there have been some mistakes made mixing vaccines. The first dose being pfizer, the second dose being moderna. Is that a problem . Arecident . No, you shouldnt be worried if this happens to you. Actually, the u. K. Took whats called the Mix And Match approach where they couldnt remember what they gave the first time they gave what was available the second time. Right now we all know the Brand Names of these vaccines. When we give out vaccines for hepatitis b, a, measles, rubella, we never know the Brand Name of these vaccines in the real world. Really this is just right now we happen to know these names. Its not a big deal if you get a second shot of the same kind or even of a different kind and they have adopted that approach in the u. K. And theres been no changes in efficacy. Well, as for taking a Pain Reliever before the shot, dr. Gandhi says avoid it. Some research shows it may slightly reduce your immune response. But if you are experiencing symptoms after the shot, its okay to take tylenol or ibuprofen. It wont affect the he ca city of the vaccine. San Jose Mayor Sam La Card owe got his shot today. Its his first shot, the first dose and he got it at the Santa Clara fairgrounds. Lots of first responders there as well. As of tomorrow appointments will be open to the general public, not just essential workers. We encourage everyone to please get vaccinated. It is absolutely safe and its a whole lot safer than not getting vaccinated. Mayor La Card owe also joked that his sore arm would be a good way for him to get out of doing any household chores.
