Because people have to get home by 10 00, that means i have to close an hour earlier. We lose revenue. Bills dont get paid because we count on that money on a friday and saturday night. Those are our busiest nights. Reporter down the street at this brewery, the owner says adapting to all the pandemic restrictions has been a roller coaster. But he thinks the temporary curfew wont change his bottom line by too much. We normally close at 10 00 anyways, and we do our last call like at 9 30. So by 10 00 we should be almost done. Reporter customers say theyll likely start coming out to eat a little earlier, but most say theyll keep coming. Not everyone agrees on the need for a curfew. We got to cut this virus. We got to take charge of it and, you know, thats one way to do it. Just close down early. To me, the virus doesnt have a time schedule, so doesnt make sense . It doesnt matter if youre out at 10 00 or 2 00. Youre going to get it, youre going to get it. Its just a reminder for everybody to be careful and be cautious and, you know, health is important and, you know, this is just a temporary thing. Its not going to be forever. Reporter county Officials Say just like the rest of the health order, theyll be ready to enforce the curfew with warnings and fines if needed. In contra costa county, jodi hernandez, nbc bay area news. Jodi, thank you. We mentioned those three bay area counties that wont have the curfew. San mateo, San Francisco, and marin county. But that might be changing very soon. In San Francisco today, Health Director dr. Grant colfax said the city could be in the purple tier as soon as sunday. Thats because cases in the city have quadrupled over the past four weeks. He also said hospitals could become overwhelmed by middecember. If and when we are assigned to the purple tier, additional reopening rollbacks will be required by the state, including closing indoor gyms, indoor museums and movie theaters, and houses of worship. A similar message in san mateo county. Health leaders are urging businesses and people to start acting like that county is already in the purple tier. Its serious. Everyone forecasted that we were going to see this spike. Its nothing that should be a surprise to any of us. And in marin county, its a different story. Health leaders there feel confident that they will remain in the red tier. Now, every day we are tracking the case count here in the bay area. This is the sevenday average of new cases. On august 16th, we hit the peak with 1,400 cases. Thats august 16th, midsummer. Almost t1,200 cases is where we are november 19th. That number rose by nearly 200 cases in the past seven days. Jessica. Just into the newsroom, donald trump jr. Has now tested positive for covid19. A spokesperson says trump junior is asymptomatic and isolating. Hes the latest person close to the president to contract the virus. As you may recall, the president , first lady melania trump, son barron have recovered from covid, and the president s chief of staff, mark meadows, and a number of other top aides have tested positive in recent months. Now, in a matter of weeks, a Coronavirus Vaccine could be available. Pfizer applied for emergency use with the fda today. But even as it tries to get approval, its now starting a second round of drug trials with teenagers. One of those teens lives in the south bay. Nbc bay areas Anoushah Rasta spoke to her family. Reporter the latest Clinical Trial for a covid19 vaccine is happening right here in the bay area, and this time the focus is on younger teenagers. Its really impacted their life just like its impacted everyone else in the world. So its very critical that we actually develop the vaccines that can be administered. Reporter pfizer has now released the results of its adult vaccine trials. Kaiser permanente has been testing the vaccine on 16 and 17yearolds for several weeks now at locations in sacramento and santa clara. Now the company and Health Care System want to expand the testing to include 12 to 15yearolds too. 17yearold alison eisenman, who lives in santa clara, says she decided to sign up and do it because she wants to be part of a solution. Teenagers are probably one of the most irresponsible people during the pandemic. Reporter both alisons parents participated in the adult study new. Her mother is a nurse with kaiser and theyre all members of the kaiser network, which is one of the requirements for participating in the study. My parents have both already done it, and they only had slight flu symptoms for a day. So i knew thats probably the worst that would happen to me. I didnt feel like i was in any danger. Someone needs to do it. There needs to be volunteers, and this is our chance to contribute. Reporter pfizer submitted an application to the fda today for permission to start administering the Covid Vaccine to certain groups even as their studies are ongoing. Dr. Klein says this next kaiser study will run for two years, and ideally theyll enroll about 100 participants in the 16 to 17yearold age group and 100 in the 12 to 15yearold group. In san jose, Anoushah Rasta, nbc bay area news. Making it in the bay has become even more challenging nowadays. Today the Covid Task Force delivered its final report on how we can recover economically. Janelle wang spoke to the cochair, tom steyer, the former president ial candidate. A lot of people unemployed or underemployed. Whats the fix . Yeah. Support them. Support the people and the families who are struggling right now, raj, and there are so many. The governor handpicked this 100member task force back in april. It consists of former governors, tech ceos like apples tim cook, marc benioff of salesforce, labor leaders, and health care officials. It was cochaired by tom steyer, as you know, california philanthropist and former president ial candidate. And i spoke to him today about the reports final recommendations. For the best recovery, we have to put the health and safety of californians first. Secondly, this was a pandemic which was hurting everybody in california, but it was being disproportionately painful for essential workers, who tend to be lowerincome people and people of color. And therefore, that our proposals had to reflect that reality and had to put them specifically so that when we recovered, we recovered better than we went in. And lastly, to make sure that as we rebuilt california, we rebuilt a sustainable, clean, green california. Reporter so what are the proposals . He says the state must focus on bridging the digital divide. Millions of kids Distance Learning without access to a computer or the internet, and he called that, quote, denial of the basic american dream. He says the state must also provide access to telehealth and job training to help californians recover. And he says Food Insecurity is also a big problem. More people than ever relying on food banks. So the report is basically a blueprint of recommendations to state and local governments. All of this of course takes money, and this is where the money, the task force believes should go toward. All these concerns, like people going hungry, people getting access to computers, and of course access to job training. As for us, steyer says what we can do is support our local Small Businesses in our cities, in our communities, to help them recover because some of them are just barely hanging on. Raj and jessica. Okay. Thank you, janelle. Well, another bombshell for the embattled Santa Clara County sheriffs department. A grand jury indicted the undersheriff. President trumps efforts to reverse Election Results in key states brought out protesters today. They heckled two gop lawmakers arriving from michigan to meet with the president. In his first oncamera appearance in a week, the president took no questions from reporters after accusing drugmakers of delaying vaccine announcements to hurt him politically. Rice, part of an Online Meeting of the universitys faculty senate, where 85 of members condemned his actions as covid adviser to the president. They cited his discouraging of mask use, disdain of medical knowledge, and damage to stanfords reputation. With thanksgiving less than a week away, theres not a lack of food. Theres a lack of money for people to buy that food. This is a nationwide problem. Here at home, Sacred Heart Community service in san jose is working to feed people. Now, because of covid restrictions, distribution now will stretch over four days with two drivethrough and two walkthrough days. Sacred heart is preparing 4,300 boxed meals with about 100 worth of food inside those boxes. The charity is seeing a lot more people and new cases, but the drive to help is unchanged. In years past, on a typical day we would have maybe 300plus volunteers here, hundreds upon hundreds of community members, and it creates sort of a vibe and an energy that is hard to recreate these days. You cant do that on zoom. Theres a lot of energy and a lot of people helping here. With distribution being several days, that means more time to donate turkeys and hams this year and money if you can. You can help with all of this, not just for sacred heart in san jose but across the bay area. The next time youre at a safeway, if you can, make a 10 donation. All of the money goes to local food banks. Its our annual nourishing neighbors food drive. It runs through late december. All right. Lets bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. Spectacular day. I would take credit for it completely if i were you, jeff. Do it, jeff. All right. Ill take your advice. Youre welcome. Youre welcome. Youre welcome, you guys. We have more of that coming our way as we hit saturday and sunday. So as were all trying to get used to these new restrictions, whatever you have to do during the day, its going to be beautiful to at least get some fresh air. I wanted to start with a wide perspective. After getting some rainfall this week, where we are with the current storm pattern. It is active out here. The problem is the way things are setting up, its just not going to allow rainfall to move in over the next seven days. That is better for thanksgiving plans if you are doing them outside as some of those recommendations do require. So heres a look at that wide pattern. We have a storm off to the south, and thats very dry, so were not expecting any rain from that. Theres one off to the north with a healthy amount of rainfall, but right now the path of this would bring it right up into washington and oregon, missing us. So the only thing im seeing right now is once we hit early monday morning, we could see a little bit of spotty drizzle near the coastline. But no big rain chances over the next seven days. That brings me into that microclimate forecast to tomorrow morning, with those clear skies. Its going to help temperatures to drop off to cold 30s and low 40s. Sunshine is back with us tomorrow. That dry weather and those cold mornings stay as we head through this weekend. So lets get you the goods on the lows. Were down to 38 here for the south bay. Theres that added chill. Peninsula, 39. Trivalley also at 36. Were looking at more of these 30s over the east bay and the north bay. San francisco not quite the 30s, but thats a cold morning for you at 42. Heres the cool thing. With those clear skies for tomorrow afternoon, its going to allow that sunshine to heat us up. So i think overall, the afternoons going to be very enjoyable. South bay, warming it up a couple degrees. 65 in san jose. 66 East San Jose down to gilroy, 67. And more of those 60s right here through the east bay. Really no big change when you head from the inland valleys right up close to the bay. The peninsula, 63 in redwood city, and well continue with a lot of 60s here around the mission and ingleside and San Francisco right up to the outer sunset, 58. And the north bay, have you at 68. Ukiah. 65 in novato. Light winds tomorrow. Mostly sunny skies. On my extended forecast, dry weather over the next seven days except for a little bit of a spotty drizzle chance early monday morning. I dont really think thats going to disrupt too many of your plans. We have 40s for morning lows here in San Francisco and 60s for those afternoon highs. And for the inland valleys, we have cold mornings with lots of 30s over the next seven days. And also those 60s for highs. Now, thanksgiving it looks really good. Dry weather coming on in. Ive been showing you the storm pattern, and youll be able to see that any kind of rainfall would be well off to our north, and that certainly is some good news as we head into thanksgiving. So, jessica, time to get that favorite jacket out and just kind of get into the holiday spirit, right . Were all kind of heading that way with thanksgiving around the corner. Yeah. That turkey is going to taste so good outside, right . It is. It will be perfect. Jessica has a lot of jackets. Which is her favorite . Jessica, you have like 25 jackets. Yes. Ill pull them all out and start doing a fashion show for you, raj, when i come in every day. Very good. Thank you, jeff. Sorry to cut you off, jeff. We mentioned that food drive. You can donate 10 at any local safeway. Heres the best part. All the money raised across the bay area goes to local food banks. Joining us new is kelly chu with the Second Harvest, silicon valley. Can you just tell our viewers in a typical year, how much do you guys provide in terms of people that come to the Second Harvest compared to this year now . So this year we are actually serviing about 500,000 clients out there. Its double before the pandemic. About double in terms of people. Are you having any trouble getting the food, accessing the food . Definitely its all really difficult to getting the food. But we just also want to say we are here to having the food for all the people that they need, and then we will get them the food for all they need. Kelly, what exactly do you need . Whats your wish list right now . If theres two or three things that everyone watching here, that you guys would need for Second Harvest . So i mean for this year, definitely for all the financial donations will be easier for us since were not accepting the physical donations at our food bank. Okay. And the money coming from safeway, when do you get that money . Is it midway through the season, or does it come in every week, the money that we all raise here together . It coming in like every week. Okay. Kelly chew from the Second Harvest valley food bank. We appreciate it. We thank you for the service that you provide to our community as well. We want to show you the information one more time. You can make that donation at any local safeway anytime between now and late december. Up next, ski resorts officially open, but a trip to tahoe will look different of course because of covid. What you need to know if youre planning on going skiing this winter. Pfizer formally applying for an okay from the fda to field its Covid Vaccine. The next steps and how soon it could be available. Also despite the warnings, millions will travel this holiday. We have
