Now, a lot of the rain has passed ukiah moving through much of Sonoma County into marin county. Yellow and red indicate heavier rain and this spread across napa and salono county and moving into San Francisco. You can see its covered with rain at this point. We have had it parked on the San Bruno Mountain and here is the rain moving through oakland. A few sprinkles and light showers moving over toward the east bay. Lighter showers moving down the peninsula into Half Moon Bay and approaching san mateo within the next few minutes. We go hourbyhour, here we are at 1 00. Seeing the heavier rain moving into oakland, as well as Half Moon Bay. Now getting ready to approach hayward at 3 00 this afternoon. San jose not seeing much in the ray of rainfall. Lighter showers moving through but falling quite heavily in part of the Santa Cruz Mountains and we will track the move as it moves from northtosouth and bringing in cooler temperatures and we will talk more about this and how much rain to expect coming up. Yes, it is coming down. Its not as heavy as it was probably about an hour ago but there is definitely some precipitation. As folks jump out of their cars, they are covering up and have umbrellas out because it is raining. The first bout of rain began around 9 00 this morning and appeared to catch folks offguard. The rain continued on and off providing muchneeded precipitation in an area that has seen devastating fires a month ago. Take a listen to a Nursing Student we caught up with. Reporter while the rain was nice break from the dry forecast, it meant a lot of work in Boulder Creek as they are clearing ditches to make sure everything is draining properly. Could be a lot of standing water because a lot of plant life was killed in the fire so they are working to make sure everything is able to drain properly. There is pooling in this parking lot. If you are on the road at all today whether youre driving to the north bay or youre in the city, be sure to keep your eyes on the road. That water can pool and can become a dangerous situation. The businesses you see on the left must move everything outdoor and on the right they can continue business indoors but capacity limits. In the red tier, most businesses can operate indoors as long as they follow restrictions but no Indoor Dining. For reaction, lets go live to Contra Costa County and bob redell is there. Hes in walnut creek. It comes as covid cases spike there. Reporter correct. The Health Department in Contra Costa County say cases have doubled more than a month. A month ago over four cases per bl 100,000 cases and now nine cases per 100,000. Indoor dining in the downtown area have to stop because of the surge. Governor gavin newsom announced last night these counties would have to stop Indoor Dining service. The five counties have seen cases spike and back in the purple tier reopening. Which indicates the rate of infection is widespread. There is the red area and those counties are shutting down Indoor Dining. Here in Contra Costa County here are the additional restrictions in effect today as a result of the purple tier. Its crazy. Reporter why . They need to stop shutting things down. Reporter what do you suggest they do . Open them up and lets go for herd immunity. I think there are ways to manage it that are less drastic. Its tough to deal with but i got a lot of respect for the businesses that went through the trouble to get all of their stuff done. Reporter the county is also asking when you get together with friends that you do it outside with no more than three households and 25 people for no more than two hours. In Contra Costa County, the county is launching testing before turkey. Right now under the purple and red tiers youre supposed to celebrate thanksgiving with only the family members in your home. This is unless you do it outdoors. With more than three families doing that. The gatherings should be kept short and high risk individuals should not attend. Contra costa county understands families might ignore this ordinance and guidance but say they are pushing for people to get tested before thanksgiving. Covid19 testing locations in concord and other sites throughout the county are ready for more people to arrive. Covid19 likes to interact when people are close like when we take off our mask. All of these things when are features of higher risk activities often we see in small private gatherings with people we know and miss. In San Francisco, a new free covid19 testing site at the alameda Farmers Market is open after the testing site in soma was closed. Pfizer launching a Pilot Program in rhode island, new mexico, texas, and tennessee. Pfizer hopes the programs results would serve as a model for other states. The company says the states will not receive that vaccine before other states but pfizer is announcing last week, that illustrates vaccine is more than 90 effective in preventing covid. With restrictions returning to dozens of counties in the state, so is the panic buy. I have way more hens than i have tom so we are more smaller turkeys. They are about eight pounds is what they average. Reporter americans consume on average 40 million turkeys each thanksgiving. Turkeys typically weighing about 134 to 18 pounds. Each larger. 20 pounds and over. Normally, we have upwards of 35 to 40 people. This year, its going to be different with the four of us. Reporter according to butterball the number of consumers who plan to celebrate with just immediate family this year has jumped from 21 to 31 . And finding that right sized bird may be a challenge. The size is still i think the great unknown. I think its vary from familytofamily what their needs are and if its three or four person family. Reporter turkey farmers anticipating more demand for smaller birds have made changes like slowing feed to limit growth and harvesting earlier for a smaller bird. Many grocery chains are increasing small bone in and bone turkey breasts. With a heritage turkey, sometimes i tell people to think of it more like a big chicken. Probably the most important thing is dont cook it too long and dont stuff it. Reporter dont stuff it . Right. The stuffing will prolong the cooking time and these birds are a little leaner and you dont want to draw your bird out. Happening today Alameda County food bank will be in hayward giving out food at noon today at two locations. First at cherry Land Elementary School and the other is parking lot in shavoy. This is going to be great for the bay area. We are so excited to see a decent round of rain moving in. Last week, we were expecting some showers and then the rain just fell apart as it moved into parts of the bay area. This is Holding Together as it continues to move with a cold front but its also bringing about some high winds and we are making a big transition here so that is the reason why we have had gusty winds. Going from temperatures in the 70s to highs in the 50s and 60s and in between we are seeing a lot of rain. So as we are looking at what is steering all of this in the upper levels of the atmosphere bringing in this moisture to the bay area we are seeing some pockets of some heavy rain where we see yellow on storm ranger is showing some pretty heavy rain coming down and at least a quarter inch of rain per hour. We are seeing in parts of northern napa county and Sonoma County and closer look we are seeing it also moving in, moving closer to salono county. Here is heavier rain moving through there. Also getting a closer look at parts of the east bay to richmond youre seeing stead rain. We are seeing light rain moving into the trivalley and expect the next hour or so to start to see the rain moving in before the peninsula. We have a steady rain in this area. Out ahead of this winds gusting up to over 50 Miles Per Hour. So we are still looking at some strong winds for the rest of today and upper level of the atmosphere have strong winds bringing in this cold front. We could still have gusts up to 30 Miles Per Hour. If youve got stuff outside, it may be knocked around not only today but tomorrow as the cold air continues to rush into the bay area. We are still looking at gusty winds and at least 25 to 30 Miles Per Hour through tomorrow. Here is a look at the time line. 2 00 we are seeing heavier rain moving into the east bay and parts of the pens has. Then look at san jose at 3 00. Still not seeing a lot of the rain. Just skipping around moving through the east bay and the Santa Cruz Mountains. We are seeing rain shadow in full effect there. Heavy rain at 6 30 in parts of the Santa Cruz Mountains to the south county by about 8 00 this evening. A lot of it clears out in the overnight hours but lingering rain by early tomorrow morning. Our overall rainfall totals most of us will get about a tenth to quarter inch of rain and some spots a half inch of rain. The north bay we have seen much heavier rain there. A possibility that we could see over an inch of rain especially around mill valley and you are getting quite a bit of that so far. That is something we will be watching for today. Not expecting any major problems but i will be so glad to see those hills going from brown to green and we need more weather systems like this coming in.
