Now. Good evening, everyone. Thanks for joining. Cases are surging and counties are taking action. Today is the first day that Indoor Dining is once again offlimits in San Francisco. Another blow for restaurants already struggling during the pandemic. Not just San Francisco. Several bay area counties taking action to slow the spread of the virus. All tightening restrictions starting next week. Nbc bay areas Christy Smith has a look at how restaurants are dealing with this latest setback. Reporter a number of restaurants we spoke with today say theyre working hard to try and make diners feel even more comfortable being outside. Its a stressful time, they say where, and there is so much to consider in rolling back. For restaurants right now its very stressful. Reporter at water bar theyre no longer able to offer any Indoor Dining but there is space to dine outside with a view. Were probably 50 of what we would have been on a night where we could have Indoor Dining. Reporter San Francisco rolled back due to the rise in covid case rates in the city and beyond. The restrictions come at a tough time for restaurants that were already facing challenges. We understand that its in the best interest of Public Safety and health, so we understand that. But running a business we have our we have our responsibilities to the people that work for us. And this is just going to make it a little bit more difficult and challenging for us to be able to be sustainable. Theyve added heaters, umbrellas. Weve already its necessary with the protective meshr for the public, but its hard to see the businesses really struggle. We think the hardship is going to be when the weather gets really bad. Reporter while they dont know how long the restricts on Indoor Dining will last theyre trying to look ahead. Were hoping that our curbside pickup, that we focus on that. Were going to focus on putting special packages together that you can send to your family. Reporter in San Francisco christie smith, nbc bay area news. We mentioned several other bay area counties are also putting a stop to Indoor Dining. The counties you see here in yellow, these are the counties stopping all Indoor Dining starting tuesday. Thats marin, contra costa and santa clara county. Sonoma county never even reached the point to allow for Indoor Dining to open. Indoor dining is still allowed in the counties you see in green. Now, this right here, this is part of the reason why so many bay area counties are now tightening their restrictions. The graph shows you the number of daily new cases here in california. You can see that the peak was in july, july 21st. The state reported 12,807 new cases. After that the cases went down, but then if you take a look, look at where we are right now over the past three weeks the state has seen another steady increase encases. Thursday the state added nearly 6,000 new cases. The rise means we could be headed to those july numbers by december. Its not just the cases that are climbing. Hospitalizations are also on the rise. Just like cases the number of people hospitalized with the virus, that hit a peak in july as well. July 27th where you see 8,461 Covid Patients who were hospitalized. After that there was a drop, but then over the past ten days weve seen a slight rise. Today 3,500 people, 3,562 people are hospitalized with covid. They dont feel appreciated. They say no ones listening to them so today dozens of Santa Clara Housing Authority workers lel the world know. The Union Workers outfitted their cars with signs and banners urging the Housing Authority to allow them to work from home. This caravan then drove to the commissioners house in san jose. Union workers say they cant keep up with housing demands as it is, and now with limited exposure the authorities shorten their workday to six hours. They want the control, and they want to oversee everyone except for the fact that management is not even there usually to oversee anyone. So we could do our jobs from home nine hours a day and serve our Community Even better. We have reached out to the Housing Authority for comment on the contract dispute. Havent heard back. The authority mainly helps county residents find section 8 affordable housing. A revolutionary San Francisco gym is shutting down. The very first cross fit gym to open in San Francisco, and just the 21st nationwide closing tomorrow. This is video from crossfit work outs. The reason for the closure, they werent making enough money. Kind of simple. Shelter at home orders forced them to close for eight months. And when they did open they had to open outdoor work outs and limited capacity. You see snow on both sides of it road. You see it in other places, too. A welcome sight as squall valley, alpine meadows. Theres a nice shot. 9 inches of snow fell overnight. It plans to open november 25th, the day before thanksgiving. They feel they have the social distancing protocols to work everything out. Lets bring in meteorologist rob mayeda, and they have the snow and weve got a shot at some rain, right . As we go through the seven day forecast we will see increasing chances of rain and more sierra snow about 6,000 feet. The top weather issue to wrap up the weekend is the return of the king tide. You might notice some coastal and localized flooding. This is around the high tide times of tomorrow morning, 6. 9 feet. Similar high tide expected monday at around 11 26 in the morning. In terms of shower chances to wrap up the weekend you can see the boundary for that looks to be right over Sonoma County into the north bay. This is why were a little more optimistic towards the rain chances. You can see how that rain line shifts and starts to drop further south. How much rain might we expect to see here in the bay area during that time frame . A closer look at that forecast in about ten minutes and how much we could see coming up. New at 6 00, demonstrators in San Francisco are calling on the Incoming Biden Administration to take action on many of the Trump Administrations actions on immigration. Several groups got together at the Federal Building in the south of market district this afternoon. They say that the Trump Administration has been restrictive and even confrontational towards immigrants. The group wants president elect joe biden to work fast to roll back a number of president trumps policies including changes to daca, closing private prisons that house jailed immigrants is one of this groups other top priorities. Most importantly i want to see all these people out of these detention centers. I want to see every single human being out. I want to see everybody free. We need to free every single individual. President elect biden has already signaled that he intends to make major changes to current immigration policy. Not a good day in court for the department of homeland security. Today a federal judge in new york city said chad wolf has not been acting lawfully as chief of homeland security. The judge also declared wolfs suspension of preces for my grnts brought to the u. S. Illegally as children, he found it invalid. Back in june the u. S. Supreme court ruled that the Trump Administration wrongly tried to drop protection from dreamers. Wolf suspended the deferred action for Childhood Arrivals Program also known as daca anyway. Homeland security has not responded to the ruling. It looks like the end of the weekend might see a chance of a few showers for parts of the north bay. Not big chances out there, but the seven day forecast does bring a much better chance of possibly more significant rain headed our way. The timing and how much we could see when we come right back. A lot of celebrations look different this year because of the pandemic including diwali, the festival of light celebrated by many hindus. This year almost everything is canceled because of covid19. Restaurants that would ordinarily be packed are empty offering only takeout this week. It is bigger than mothers day and valentines day for indian restaurants. So all the Bay Area Software companies will have parties, diwali parties. So thats huge. This week used to be a lot of business. There are some socially distanced diwali events going on, but for the most part restaurants that rely on the revenue are taking a big hit. She posted this tweet saying she hopes everyone celebrating the holiday around the world has a safe, healthy and joyous new year. Christmas is just around the corner which means new york city is getting some decor. This years Christmas Tree has arrived at Rockefeller Center. You can see it right there on the right along with that famous ice rink. It stands 70 feet tall, weighs 11 tons. Rockefeller centers ted gardener first spied the tree in 2016. So he saw it, caught his eye and he said he knew 2020 was the year to use it. The tree will start to be glammed up with more than 35,000 led lights and then of course a dazzling star made of swarvoski crystals. Holidays are here. Not like weve had them before but wave got the rockefeller tree and thats a start. Its a start. And weve got the cooler temperatures and perhaps some more rain. Yeah, officially jacket weather. Certainly is cool. Todays high spending most of the day in the 50s and 60s and still seeing some 50s outside right now. And we will wrap up the weekend with at least a chance of showrs for the far north bay and do see better rain odds as we head to the middle of the week. 56 degrees in san jose, and 57 near santa cruz. San francisco, useeing mainly clear skies at 54 degrees, and theres san jose. 56 currently with a bit of breeze out of the northeast. And speaking of san jose, big Football Game tonight. The undefeated san jose spartans taking on unlv 70. Cool temperatures out there and might see a patch or two of low clouds. So the weather other than being chilly outside nothing too out of the ordinary there for the fest tifbl festivities around san jose state. Youll notice the increase in the clouds to the north. Thats going to help to keep our temperatures up in a few areas, and tomorrow afternoon for areas lets say south of San Francisco should be bit of a warmer finish to the weekend. We should see upper 60s, closer to 70 in san jose, upper 60s for the trivalley and low to mid60s in the north bay where well see the clouds on the increase for the morning. Notice on the hour by hour time line midmorning showers there for the northern half of Sonoma County and Mendocino County and that line stalls out. Well see rain up there on the north coast, but at times dont be surprised maybe briefly in marin county for the morning might see an isolated shower. But the totals not really measuring up we think for areas south of santa rosa for tomorrow. But the seven day forecast keeps the promise of better rain odds as we head into tuesday and wednesday. Well see the winds picking up monday night and tuesday, and regarding that tuesday storm as we get into wednesday, this next storm looks like itll have a little bit of a better pushover the ocean which should bring in more moisture as we get into wednesday. So how that might look around the bay area, now this is the timing midmorning tuesday into wednesday. Id say an average estimate for the bay area right now is about a quarter inch to a halfinch of rain, some areas along the Santa Cruz Mountains and possibly around the north bay. And that storm would mean more sierra snow and a bit of a dryer finish to the weekend. As long as we see storms every two to three days were doing pretty good. Better odds of seeing more significant rain as we go through the day on tuesday. Seasonally appropriate weather here around the bay area. Still ahead after several delays the big launch is set for less than 24 hours. Well talk with a bay area astronaut about the historic nasa mission. And just a reminder for you. On board a space x capsule. It is set to be a historic launch. In less than 24 hours nasa will send four astronauts into space onboard a spacex capsule. Its the first fully operational launch of a commercially built spacecraft signaling a new era for nasa. Joining us live now from houston, texas, to weigh in on this is petaluma native and astronaut nicole mann. Thank you so much for being on the show today. Its been almost a decade of planning that led up to this point. Tell us how you and everyone at nasa are feeling right now. We are have very excited. Its been such a time in working from the ostronot to the commercial industry to all the engineers. Everyone has really come together for this new era of spaceflight and finally its here and happening. When we see the launch of this operational commercial spacecraft tomorrow its the beginning of that new era. Nicole, you are not on the Mission Tomorrow but you are part of the boeing star liner crew. Tell us a little about what youll be flying, and tell us the kind of training and preparation that goes into this. Absolutely. So theres two commercial companies basic and boeing, and each of them had been contracted by nasa to develop, build then execute these missions to the International Space station. Youre seeing the launch of a spacex spacecraft tomorrow, and soon next year youll see the launch of starliner which is built by boeing. Ill be the pilot aboard that first flight of that new spacecraft and will go to the International Space station. So the training is exciting. Everything from simulations to emergency procedures on a spacecraft and also all the training for living and working aboard the International Space station. I mean, are you nervous . This is big. I think my mom is nervous, but im excited. All right, thats good. And then once you get there, what kind of work do you do once youre there . When youre there a typical mission is six months onboard, and its very busy. Theres not only the maintenance of the International Space station but usually theres up grades or modifications you get to make. And so hopefully ill have an opportunity to do a space walk, so thats going out the door of the International Space station and doing some work on the external portions of of the space station. Things we can do in microgravity that you just cant do on earth, and then well see a lot of visiting vehicles that will bring up new cargo, supplies and science and welcome other spacecraft whether it be crew dragon, it will be a very exciting mission. Nicole, real quick before we let you know what is your favorite part about this whole process . The favorite part i think is talking to folks like you and talking to kids in school and just seeing the glimmer in their eye and the excitement. When they used to maybe think about space travel as something you saw in the movies, but now theyre realizing this is reality, this is what were doing on daily basis. We have lived and operated onboard the space station for over 20 years. And so if kids are interested and excited about space now is the time now is the time to get involved. All right, i love it. Nicole, thank you so much. Bay area native and nasa astronaut nicole mann. Thank you. Best of luck. Lets check in with Anthony Flores right now. Weve got not such good news from the farm today. Is that correct, anthony . Thats right. Terry, no matter which sports you play youve got to practice, right . Well, it was a rough day on the farm. While stanford struggled against colorado. You guessed it. It has to do with practice. Stick around. Sports is next. We made usaa insurance for members like martin. An air force veteran made of doing whats right, not whats easy.
