Midday newscast. Im marcus washington. More breaking news this midday. In youre on the fence about your thanksgiving travel plans, your decision may have gotten a bit simpler. Governor newsom along with governors with oregon and Washington State just issued new travel advisory that may have you stay put. Chris, what does this advisory suggest, and what does it mean for us . Well, this means that wie having an even more difficult conversation even within my family. Were trying to figure out whether or not we ask grandma to come from new york. I know a lot of families are in similar predicaments at this point. The advisory applies to all of california, washington, and oregon. The governors say they are advises against all nonessential travel. The advisory also asks that we limit interactions to just the people in our households. A bay area and Southern CaliforniaHealth Leaders already issued that advice. The mayor of chicago issued a stayathome advisory, and nationwide, about 28 states have statewide travel restrictions. People were already scaling back their Holiday Travel plans, telling aaa that fewer than 500,000 californians plan to fly. 6 million would drive. Thats less than last year, and 7 out of 10 say theyre staying home outright according to the hotel and lodging organization. Cdc advises celebrating with the people in our household. If you host, keep it small. If youre a guest, consider bringing your own food, drink, utensils. But perhaps most importantly, discuss the expectations beforehand, and i think thats the key to staying healthy, not onl only healthy from covid, but in harmony with your family and friends. A lot a think about. California has now surpassed 1 million confirmed covid cases with more than 18,000 deaths. Were also getting new numbers on the people most impacted by the virus. The state Health Department finds latinx people make up 60 of confirmed cases in california. Thats three times more than white people at 18 . Asians and black each make up less than 6 . Health officials are placing new restrictions on roll backs for businesses reopening. This is to help flatten the curve. We have a host of new rules. Lets start with tom jensen. Hes in Contra Costa County. This is where some of the control measures went into effect this morning. Good morning, marcus. Yes, this is awful news of course for businesses and their employees who are still trying to recover from the initial round of shutdowns. Then those tiered reopenings. This is just deja vu all over again, the nightmare in 2020 continuing here that is unfortunately reality. As Health Officials examine Success Stories some here in the bay area and other parts of the world, they come away with a couple of common findings. Those areas that have been able to return to some form of normal life are the ones that also have the highest compliance with social distancing and mask wearing. So more of the same again. Limits on capacities at most retailers and other businesses. But business operators and customers we talked to today welcomed the rollbacks if it saves lives, believing it will lead to prosperity down the road. If we need it, definitely, we need to shut down again, because its we cant have the surge keep going up. We were surprised when we saw people still eating in restaurants. So im in favor of it, basically. Those rollbacks in Contra Costa County place occupancy rates of 50 on retail and maximum of 100 people indoors. Grocery stores will remain at 100 capacity. Meanwhile, food court haves to cut back to 25 , along with colleges and trade schools. Office work will have to be done remotely for now, and all indoor entertainment like bowling and others must close their doors now. Now, outdoor played grougrounds this one in downtown concord are open along with those lower education schools, not the Higher Education ones that are in compliance with the reop reopening guidelines. Thom jensen, nbc bay area news. At midnight, title nine will go into effect. No longer until yellow tier. Indoor dining suspended until further notice. Also on theaters and gyms. Meanwhile, alameda, napa, and solano are warning about moving into more a strictive tiers. Health leaders warn a move back into the red is not out of question by next week. Solano would fall back into the most restrictive purple if cases do not climb. Napa warns with their recent increase could soon become red or perhaps slide back into the purple. Just in for you, this weekends cal Arizona State officially canceled. Pac pac making that announcement within the last two hours.
