KNTV NBC Bay Area News At 11 July 12, 2024

Combative. The candidates clashing repeatedly over coronavirus. Anyone responsible for that many deaths should not remain as the president of the United States of america. Were learning to live with it. We have no choice. We cant lock ourselves up in a basement like joe does. President trump and democratic joe biden delivering their closing arguments as the clock ticks down to election day. The big question which candidate was able to sway more voters . Millions of people have already voted, but the majority of americans have not. Nbc bay areas ian cull has the big moment. Reporter tonight with a mute button in hand if the candidates ran over time or spoke over the other, a much more civil debate focused on policy starting with the coronavirus. Anyone whos responsible for that many deaths should not remain as president of the United States of america. Were learning to live with it. We have no choice. We cant lock ourselves up in a basement like joe does. Learning to live with it, come on. Were dying with it. Its not my fault it came here. Its chinas fault. Hanging over the debate tonight new reports iran and russia are trying to influence the election. The president tried to shift attention to bidens son hunter and unverified claims about his business dealings. His son, his brother and his other brother are getting rich. Theres a reason why hes bringing up all this malarkey. He doesnt want to talk about is substantive issues. Its not about his family or my family. Its about your family. And this sharp exchange on racial justice. With the exception of Abraham Lincoln nobody has done what ive done. Reporter one of the most contentious parts, immigration and recent nbc reporting of around 500 kids who cant find their parents at the border. They went down, we brought reporters, everything. They are so welltaken care of. Theyre in facilities that were so clean. But some of them have not gotten reunited with their families. Who built the cages . President trump then attacking bidens record. I ran because of you. I ran because of barack obama, because you did a poor job. Whats happening here is you know who i am, you know who he is. You know his character, you know why character. You know our reputations for honor and telling the truth. Political analyst larry gursten gives a slight edge to biden but it helped inform voters as the candidates hammer down their talking points. I think people can walk away tonight. Even if they dont like what they heard, they can walk away being better able to make a judgment who theyre going to vote for this extraordinary Important Office at an extraordinary difficult time. Reporter ian cull, nbc bay area news. It was valuable in that sense. Even the pandemic now wont stop people in the bay area from getting involved in politics. Look at this, dozens of people cruise into a makeshift drive n theater in San Francisco to watch tonights debate. You might have heard all the horns. Reporter at times the drive in debate at San Franciscos fort mason sounded more like a traffic jam than a watch party. Theres regular applause, virtual applause and then drive n applause. They asked drivers to honk if they liked joe biden said and to honk if they disliked something President Trump said. That one comment he said about returning immigrants had the low iq, im an immigrant myself, my parents are immigrants, that was definitely a huge racist remark that definitely was hurtful. How donald trump said im the least person and all this stuff when he doesnt even realize like the rhetoric that hes, you know, sharing, exactly like certain things that he said are so racist. Reporter the most disproval from the mostly liberal crowd came when President Trump talks about releasing his taxes. While republicans felt their candidate hit back. He was very polite, very focused, very persistent, kept within the time parameters. Both of the candidates did that. And i think he scored some real points. Particularly with black voters. I think President Trump did a tremendous job at reminding people who caused the devastation, a lot of the devastation in the black community. Despite their differences, both democrats and republicans did agree. The final debate was smoother than the first. I think the moderator, he did a good job. Hats off for Kristen Welker for running this the way it ought to be run. Did you miss the debate . We have extended coverage on our website from coronavirus to Racial Injustice and climate change, we broke down the top moments. Just go to nbcbayarea. Com.
