Thousands of people under evacuation orders in napa and sonoma. Lets bring in rob now who is tracking everything for us. Rob . At the very latest, very challenging conditions. What is unique about the situation tonight is this area has not burned, considering its a narrow wedge between the tub fire and the nunn fire. Lets show you the conditions again. Somewhat dry as you see. Numbers in the 90s still with some gusty winds at times, up to 25 miles an hour. Humidity down to about 15 . And you can see the area. It is beginning to impact there. This is the urban wild fire interface as we sometimes refer to there. These blue areas are structures in the populated areas. You can see the shady fire in that zone of unburned terrain to the southeast of the tub fire and to the north of the none fire burn scar from a couple years back. Notice the wind speed at 9 00 a. M. Still gusty. Thats not changing through 9 00 tomorrow morning. Humidity level also daytime dry ensuring it is going to be a tough night for fire crews on the fire lines. I think the worst of the wind will be between now and 9 00 a. M. Gradually decreasing wind as we head through the afternoon. The temperatures tomorrow continue again close to 100 degrees. Well see if we see any relief coming up in our forecast at 10 00 a. M. New video tonight shows the threat advancing towards santa rosa as we mentioned. This wildlife camera sits north of the city. It looks saint helena. You can see a wall of flames. A very serious situation developing now. Take a look at the evacuation orders and warnings in effect right now in Sonoma County. The area shaded here under evacuation orders. What you really want to look at here is santa rosa, a city of more than 100,000 people. Evacuation orders going on there. This is the shady Fire Evacuation orders. Nobody is asking or telling you to get out of your homes there. The areas in blue on this map mandatory evacuations. This is the one we have been following since this morning really, the glass fire. Give you an idea where it is. Saint helena right here. It stretches from one to the other. Mandatory evacuations. And this is an evacuation. The fire just to the west and the evacuation area there in blue as you see here. Okay. Lets head out to nbc bay area who is live for us tonight. Sergio, good evening. Good evening to you. I can tell you in the last couple of hours we have been watching this line of fire make a progression down the hill. You can see that right now it is kind of a little dim but really that fire came down the hill and is now probably just about a mile and a half away from us. In the last couple of actually in the last 45 minutes or so, we have felt the effects that rob was talking about a little wile ago. Lots of wind. It is very hot out here and unfortunately we have also been hearing some pops. This is a fire making a lot of progression very quickly. Its world famous for wine and tonight napa valley is being threatened by fire. 0 containment at the northern most portion you can see a couple lights in the hills ahead of the flames. Those are ground clues trying to cut a containment line. It makes it difficult since we have fires shooting everywhere. Erratic winds could cause the fire to start going north, going east, going south so all directions. The helicopters and large air tankers had to be grounded. But they spent much of the day trying to slow the fires progression. Im just feeling for the firefighters up there in the heat. Theyre working hard. They have been hitting it hard. So im confident they will get it done. Reporter paul lives in the hills. He was ordered to evacuate this afternoon. He says the Sheriffs Department gave him plenty of time to pack up everything for the next few days. Were going to stay at the inn hoe lel here. Reporter among the property they had to clear out, the resort. Staff had to rebook guests. Everyone is departed at this point, so were just getting everybody, all of the luggage from people who were out and about and cant get back on the property and getting all that employees out. Reporter now this fire has basically made its way down that hill to pretty much silverado lane, which is just about a mile and a half away from us. We are on saint helena highway. There had been some you heard some pops. We have been getting a lot of the update on some of the changing evacuations coming to our cell phone. If you do live in the area, you want to make sure you Pay Attention to those warnings and those advisories. They are very detailed and they give you information that is very useful because there is a whole lot of changing conditions out here. And in Sonoma County, an Evacuation Center is being set up. That address is 2375 west 3rd street. Tonight many of the people forced to flee their homes headed to an Evacuation Center in napa. They had to flee just more than a month ago when the fire got too close to their home. Early this morning, the glass fire forced them to get out. I am actually thankful for the evacuation that we had six weeks ago or whatever just because it was kind of a trial run. I figured out what i needed to do so i was more prepared this time around and so i got back in the car. Reporter nick left his car this morning with only his cat and a few things. Socks, underwear, my guitar and a pillow, some sleeping bags. Reporter tonight he says he plans to sleep in his car and volunteer to maintain heavy equipment firefighters use on the front lines. Nicholas hopes this is the last time hell be forced to evacuate this year. Really getting to be too much to bear, you know. Its just too much. Reporter a harrowing drive out of the fire zone caught on video. Amazing stuff. It was recorded by a napa county sheriffs deputy helping evacuate those in the path of the glass fire. You can see not just embers but burning debris raining down on the road on the cars. The trees and brush on the side of the road already fully engulfed. The Sheriffs Department posted the video with this warning. Never wait until the last next to evacuate. Lets take a look at where this glass fire the burning in comparison to other recent wild fires. You can see here it is just eat of saratoga. The glass fire right there, and it is spreading. It is so close to the burn scar of other fires. Take a look at the lmu fire. Its still burning technically. There and here is on both sides of the glass fire. Its been burning since midaugust and its burned more than 360,000 acres. Firefighters have some really good news. Its 98 contained. Remember that one . That was a fire that burned in Sonoma County just last year. Wedged between the two. Reporter wind gusts up to 70 miles an hour helped push the glass fire south. A cal fire aerial assault started early in the morning da winery and several homes along silverado trail road. They tell me every minute. But the buckets are relatively small. So im hopeful they can put it out. Reporter he watched the fire fight from a winery that he started building in 1994. I tried to replicate everything this would have had. Reporter he worries about the continued financial harm to the Wine Industry in napa valley, from the pandemic and repeated fires. Were down to about a third or a fourth of our normal vegetation. Reporter hes afraid the glass fire will scare away visitors, even though the smoke and the fire is blowing away from it. We rely only on visitation, and weve done that at both wineries. Reporter he and several of his employees are also concerned about their own homes and loved ones along the road where the fire started early in the morning. It is the largest Fire Fighting aircraft in the world and more than half a dozen aircrafts now battling the glass fire. There are so many vineyards and wineries in this fire. You can see in this video right here from our sky ranger, this is earlier today, of those flames burning right to the edge of at least one vineyard. Lets check in with rob. The heat, the wind, everything pushing the flames. Whats going on, rob . Yeah. Were seeing no break. Were seeing daytime midafternoon fire activity, extreme behavior due to those gusty winds because were seeing daytime gusty conditions pushing those flames down to the south and west over my shoulder. Thats a time lapse. We have been watching the flames from the shady fire. Thats the little complex right there on the east side of santa rosa. Moving through the narrow gap, you have the none fire burn scar to the south and there is a little triangle which this particular fire seemed to be navigating off the south and west. And look at the temperature. Itsdegrees. No relief for firefighters. You can see why. Were not expecting much change in the winds. Still a persistent wind out of the northeast. Notice these speeds coming down as we head through the afternoon. Winds may start to shift out of the south as a weak develop lates tomorrow. Originally it was just the glass fire but there are three of those fires burning tonight. So unhealthy air is now obviously in santa rosa. Some of that does extend down towards San Francisco. Spare the air alert tomorrow. Dont be surprise firstdegrd i bay is in red. Obviously what were seeing right now is a lot more fire activity and spoke being generated out of the north bay. Heat will be an issue tomorrow as well. Temperatures close to 100 degrees inland. This is how it will look hour by hour. Lunchtime 90s inland. San francisco, by the way, in the 90s tomorrow. Oakland also in the 90s and triple digits all across the north bay. San jose in the mid90s for tomorrow. So this is what were going to be watching i think this time tomorrow night hoping for the fog to make a quick comeback, coming through the golden gate and hopefully bringing some higher humidity levels and some cooling temperatures which were starting to see with that heat showing up. Notice San Francisco back into the 70s, oakland in the 80s. Across the north bay, still in the mid90s. So this is the reason why it will be so tough to cool down. High pressure does pfly to the east. So for the bay side community, well see a bit of that sea breeze. Very likely inland locations will be staying in the 90s for a while, at least not above 100 degrees. San francisco will break records. Cooling relief for San Francisco when the coast comes and you can see our valley temperatures staying above the mid90s. We can see up on this mountain ridge, and there is a mass exodus right now. We have been seeing firefighters and ambulances going up and down this road. You can see here the flames are dangerously close. The area near the road has already been evacuated. There are several regions that have been evacuated and the flames are just on the other side of this ridge. Now, there are fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, sheriffs deputies. Theyre all out here trying to help people evacuate. People are jumping the divider here like we just saw. One person. I want to show you down here. We look down at the mass exodus of people trying to get out. We saw dozens of people pouring into gas stations trying to get gas. You can see its very slow and go to get out of this area. There are not many routes out of here. There is only two main roads and right now it is bumper to bumper. Fire trucks are pouring into this area. And again all been evacuated due to this approaching fire. And lets just look again whats here on the hillside and see whats going on. We just saw a horse trailer go by. People are evacuated their animals, their horses, their livestock. So a very chaotic scene. Its very difficult because this is only a twolane road and it is bumper to bumper as people try to evacuate this area. Ash raining down. Firefighters are trying to get in here.
