Not all of us will start to see that smoke today as we look at what were expecting mostly for the north bay as well as the inland east bay. Thats where we will have the moderate air quality looking better for the south bay. Well talk more about whats ahead in the forecast coming up. Mike, how is it looking now for the morning commute . The big view, kari, shows us green sensors as we would imagine. In oakland we dont have the overnight construction but we did have a crash, the second one of the morning for the nimitz. Its on the shoulder. Over here a look at 680 south of 24 heading out of walnut creek weve gone to green from red over the last ten minutes. I think the overnight crew there has cleared from just south of the walnut creek interchange and things are moving nicely on the freeways. Slowing out of the altamont pass. Back to you. The way this happened so close to the election that the next president should be able to make the decision. When you have both parties in the white house and the senate historically the confirmation goes forward. And thats whats going to happen here. That intersection, of course, closed now while police investigate. So police say a little before 1 00 this morning a driver ran the stop sign on taylor tboning that patrol car. Both drivers were taken to the hospital. Police have not updated their conditions and they are not saying if the driver was under the influence. Its also not clear how soon that intersection will reopen. Well today marks another milestone in easing some of the covid19 restrictions. Today marks the day that three Main Business types are able to open, indoor museums, zoos and aquariums and sixth grade inperson learning. And like every step of this process it will come with some caveats. They are able to reopen on a limited capacity and are only able to do so if they have submitted a health plan. Right now lets take a focus on education. The inperson learning for prek through sixth grade is being done on a rolling basis. Mayor breed says the goal is to bring middle schoolers in for inperson learning by october and in november High Schoolers and some other educational programs. And for those insight into just when that could happen. Her office will be working with the county Public Health officers to move Indoor Dining by october 1st. At that point it would be 25 or 100 people and october 1st is the day the county would move into that orange tier. So it turns out now that six feet of distancing may not protect you after all. The cdc is now saying droplets can actually hang in the air for some time. But they can also travel. The new guidance warns droplets can be inhaled by someone further than six feet away. Previous guidance suggested the spread was mostly within six feet. Got a little hot yesterday afternoon. Its going to be cooler this afternoon. Lets go hour by hour as we check it out heading through noon with cupertino at 74 degrees at lunch time. Well be at 70 degrees in napa and then along the coastline were still in the 60s in San Francisco and half moon bay. Then as we go into 3 00 were at 76 degrees if fremont and some upper 70s for antioch. Were going to briefly go into the low 80s by this afternoon. Then as we go into this evening a nice little cooldown as the winds pick up. Expect it to be a windy evening, and thats because we will see an approaching storm system from the north thats going to increase our winds coming in from the west. But this will actually help mix out the smoke just a little b drifts of smoke coming in to parts of the north bay and east bay until this moves in. As we go to the end of the week, unfortunately, a large area of High Pressure that will be pretty intense could ramp up our temperatures and may give us some gusty wind, so thats not good for the wildfire conditions as we can see by saturday and sunday some hot weather returning. As we look at our fiveday forecast for the air quality we are going to see unhelpy air quality for parts of the north bay and inland east bay. It looks like well continue to see the drifts coming in. Improving air quality as we are going to see a lot of green sensors meaning it will be safe to spend long periods of time outside. And of course well be watching some of the inland areas that have to deal with that smoke. Temperature wise were looking good here. A lot of 80s for our warmest spots over the next few days. How is it looking out there for the commute now, mike . Kari, the Silicon Valley freeways are over my shoulder and theyre moving just fine at or probably over the limit.
