President trump continued his swing through nevada this weekend before heading to Northern California tomorrow. Tonight he spoke to an enthusiastic crowd just outside of las vegas in henderson. Its his first indoor rally in three months, drawing criticism from health leaders. The president s speech was very similar to a speech delivered in minim minden, nevada last night, talking about jobs and law and order. He also railed on joe biden and the democratic party, calling them radical. If im elected, his radical supporters wont just be causing mayhem in the streets, theyll be running the department of justice, the department of homeland security, and by the way, the United States supreme court. Its been a turbulent week for the president s Campaign Following the release of audio where he admits to downplaying the seriousness of the coronavirus. Microsoft said it had not been chosen by tiktoks parent company. The movement came before the order by President Trump that tiktok sell its business or be banned. Scott budman puts this in perspective for us. Heres what we know for sure. Tiktok is one of the hottest Media Companies in the world right now. Its popularity has only grown during the pandemic as people have looked for new ways to stream and reach out to each other. There are some positives. Oracle has a lot of money. It can buy tiktok, leave it independent with a big bank account and let the tiktokers go wild and have a good time while oracle collects the ad revenue. On the other hand, there is the Chinese Government concern versus our government. Oracle is a big company. Many a big company has had relationships with the government and has made Small Companies uncool. There are rumors here that oracle founder Larry Ellison is number one in the running now for tiktok because he is a backer of president donald trump. Either way the u. S. Government saying tiktok has to be sold to an American Company or else it would get rid of it, and that would be terrible for tiktokers, so there are many ways for tiktok to become uncool. The only way, really, for it to stay cool and hip is for a company to buy it here in the u. S. And let it remain tiktok. Well keep you posted. B. A. R. T. Before the vikingspackers game in minnesota, the vikings honored george floyd. The team stood arm in arm for floyd, who died in the custody of minneapolis police. Members of floyds family were also at the game for what was called a moment of unity. Football always brings with it feelings for a number of fans, and today some normalcy. Jackie ward scoped out the scene across the city to show us how fans were celebrating. I dont know if people understand about this pandemic thing, so well do our best over here. Reporter niners fans, raiders fans and football fans in general packed the bars. This season Ticket Holder said this was the next best place to be since he couldnt be at levis. There is a debate whether people should be able to drink alcohol on half moon beaches. A year ago they decided to include city beaches as designated parks. What they didnt realize is that meant an alcohol ban on the beaches. When city leaders tried to change the ordinance to allow alcohol again, someone questioned if drinking on the beach was a good idea in the first place. This week theyre asking people to weigh in. This comes as Half Moon Bay has been dealing with especially crowded weekend during the pandemic and the recent heat wave. Okay, its been really tough with the air quality for the past few weeks. It feels like, though, today we got a little bit of relief, rob. Hopefully were not being deceived. Yeah, just a little hint of hope out there. The wind picked up a little bit midafternoon, but the problem is theres still so much smoke. For a time midday we actually had more smoke trying to import its way in from the south and the east. The wind remains a very complex part of the forecast. Right now there is not enough of it to export out the bad air we still have. Its 66 degrees currently in walnut creek. You see the hazy skies there. Dublin, 82 degrees. San jose, a lot of morning clouds to start the morning off. 70s downtown. Currently 62. More low clouds likely to fill in for the Santa Clara Valley in the morning. Its now what weve seen for four weeks right across the board here for air quality. Spare the air again for monday. Numbers have technically come down. Keep in mind, a spare the air day is an aqi of 100. Whether or not we see another one issued for tuesday even as these numbers come down, thats the reason were saying stay tuned. Its going to take some work to keep the smoke out of the bay area. 64 in san jose. Areas of low cloud and fog and maybe some mist and drizzle. We could see a hint of that on the futurecast around fremont, union city on the coast near Half Moon Bay and San Francisco as we start the day. Tomorrows highs once again in the 70s. San jose a lot more low clouds to start out the day. We could see that on the pass tomorrow morning, so plan on that if you have any travel plans for the morning. Mid80s, 60s from San Francisco down the coast. One of the changes we saw was a little bit of a breeze trying to pick up. You see the wind through fairfield, 23 miles per hour. We transition to the upper air smoke. This is going to take us through monday. Keep in mind it is a spare the air day tomorrow. There is a bit of a trend taking shape for the north bay tomorrow night. We begin to see that smoke clearing for part of the north bay, but thats 1 00 a. M. Tuesday. We still need those winds to pick up, and they will as we get to tuesday around the bay area. The problem is the wind to help clear the smoke means dry and dusky conditions near the north end fire. Tter. That storm system by friday approaches the coast. Heres the good news, for washington and oregon, it looks like significant rainfall for those fires north of the border there, and possibly a chance we could see something here friday and saturday. Finally after a month of bad Weather Forecast for you, just nothing but doom and gloom, there is a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel there. A chance to see some rain early on saturday. As we go through the weekend as the system moves out, well see High Pressure building in, well turn warmer and well have to see if that involves a bit of a north wind. Our intentiattention certainly air quality. Tomorrow another spare the air conditions. On tuesday were looking at moderate but sensitive air quality. The wind picks up, and we should finally catch a break as the showers pass to the north. And next weekend we could see a turn of the winds out of the north. Not as strong as everything that started early this week which really kickstarted the fires in the northwest. Just a slight chance of showers passes by and then High Pressure builds in behind it. Its a classic pattern as we approach the start of fall coming up in another week or so, but these systems tend to bring wind at times. Well be watching that next weekend, but for now were counting down the wind to hopefully bring some air quality into the moderate range fort midd for the middle part of the week. Rob, thank you. Tomorrow is a long day to wait for in San Francisco as some doors are able to open. Well tell you what is opening when we come back. Heres how the fires looked one year ago, and this is what it actually looked like yesterday. Look at all that smoke covering the entire state. Rob mayeda joining us now to talk about how bad it is, but its going to get better at some point. Yeah, you know, we keep telling ourselves the wind is coming, its going to help, and all these forecasts depend on seeing the wildfires that we do have not doing anything unexpected or seeing flareups or new fires started. And we had a little case of more smoke today actually being imported back to the south and the east. That is the sqf complex fire that flared up big time, sending smoke into the Sacramento Valley and the nq area, and some of that did spill into the south bay with fog. As we work to see upper level winds go east tomorrow, were still left with a lot of folks trapped in the bay area. Spare the air level of 100, soo were still at 193 in San Francisco, 164 in san jose, and even though the numbers do come down at least a little bit tomorrow, everybody is still in that red unhealthy range, which means were still above 150, which we think will begin to help us in terms of exporting out all t courtesy of the storm system now starting to approaching the west coast, which for some of the west coast will bring actually some rainfall for places like oregon and washington. Some of that may try to get a little bit closer to Northern California. A group of neighbors in san mateo are demanding an explanation after they say the city randomly started fining them for parking the same way theyve been park forg yeaing f. We spoke to a longtime resident who said this is the last thing they need right now during a pandemic. For years in this san mateo neighborhood, residents have parked on the sidewalk like this, because they say the street is too narrow and they live on a hill. Specifically where i live, we live on a blind corner, so people come pretty fast down the hill, even though were a oneblocklong street. So we have to park in a little bit so we dont get hit. Reporter in all these years, she tells us she and her neighbors never had a problem doing it this way. Well, weve lived here over 37 years. Moved in in may of 1983, so almost 17. 5 years, and weve never, ever, ever had an issue with parking, with tickets. Reporter until now when suddenly theyre seeing a lot of parking tickets. Neighbors have complained to the Police Department and the mayor, arguing that getting a ticket for parking on the sidewalk like this is unfair because there are no other options, and parking has not been enforced in the past. Theyre also upset that now that it is being enforced, they never got a proper warning ahead of time. I would encourage anybody who feels that they were unjustly cited to make sure they appeal that ticket and talk to the Police Department about steps that they can take. Reporter san mateo mayor claims that the reason parking rules are being enforced now is that the city were being bombarded by complaints with other neighbors, frustrated that no one was parking legally. Its true that in many neighborhoods they havent seen a lot of enforcement in the past because Police Officers are very busy doing other things. Reporter the mayor explains when they started hearing from angry neighbors, the city decided to hire an outside Company Called circo to start enforcing the rules. But when the pandemic hit and people started working from home and leaving their cars there, too, mathe mayor said they aske circo to suspend action for a while. But they said thats not happening. Play the season under extreme covid restrictions or sit out the entire year. Former 49ers wide receiver Marquis Goodwin who is now with the Philadelphia Eagles decided not to play. His reason was simple. His family. This right here, this is my reason, yall. She is the reason im opting out for the season. Our baby girl maray is five months and growing like a weed. Yes, she is. Our journey of parenthood was very tough. It was a long road. We had to do an emergency surgery which didnt hold, and needless to say, we ended up losing the baby. I feel like i had to prove to my coaches and new team that i was dedicated to win and i wouldnt let anything keep me from that goal, even my family. He ended up scoring his first touchdown of the season. The team won their first game. I had to make a decision. Again, we held the baby for pictures, videos and thought, man, they look like me. They have my features. They have my finger nails. They survived for an hour before their hearts just stopped. Hey, you coming out today . You coming out today . We finally were blessed to bring home our first living child, our rainbow baby. Its a girl. We went through a storm. Just being fortunate enough to bring her home, it was like that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Shes our pot of gold and shes our rainbow. Shes going to be putting makeup on him. Hes going to be playing dressup with her. Hes the type of father where hes going to give her the world. I want to be the best father figure and father the world has ever seen, because i want to be everything that i didnt have. It wasnt surprising because of what weve been through, so i knew if he did get that option to opt out, he was going to take that option. Starting with a new franchise this off season from San Francisco to the Philadelphia Eagles. My coach tested positive for the virus. Im like, dang, because he would have been the first persons hand that i shook, probably gave a hug to. It makes me even more grateful that i chose to stay home. If i played this year, leaving my family at home without having them there with me, i would not be worth a damn on the field. Probably wouldnt even be able to catch a cold naked, wet, in december in philly. I love football. I lo i love the team. But i love my family more than the two of them put together. I was offered a full scholarship at the university of texas in austin and walked on the team and won a football scholarship within two days. Hes champion and winner of the olympic trials. I went to the olympics in 2012. Thats the best sporting experience ive ever had in my life. I start trying new food, i started dressing different, i started trying to develop an accent because i was around so many accents. It sparked my mind in that Opening Ceremony i became a new person. Following that, in 2013, i ended up getting drafted by the buffalo bills, 78th pick overall. Here i am, not even supposed to be playing football. Im getting drafted. That was a huge blessing in my life. It gave me is to many opportunities that i could help my family. I look forward to the season, though. I definitely will be watching and ill be supporting, and especially my eagles. You see, i got my hat on right now. Its going to be crazy watching it on the tube. Its not for everybody to understand. Say something to the camera. Our journey is not everybody elses journey, and you ultimately have to be proud of the decision you make and not let other people affect your decision. Faith number one, then my family, then football. In that order. I wont change for nobody. Marquis goodwin, what a story. Larry, lets check in with rob mayeda. Really the lead story tonight. The air, so filthy. Going to be cleaning out, rob. Yeah, you know, the fan is starting to turn on, but theres just so much smoke trapped in the bay area from all these wildfires, and for a time today we actually had a little more smoke being imported in from the south today. Lets look at whats happening this hour. Temperatures have cooled down. As you can see, were in the 50s and 60s, but a temperature change start to go shing show a hi hint of some cooling. Its hazy and in some cases we have patchy fog setting up. Fairfield at 20 miles per hour. Kind of like leaving a fan on with a lot of smoke. Its going to take more than a few hours to get the smoke out of here. Were really talking 24 to 36 hours. As you can see, the air quality still unhealthy across the board. Up to 193 in San Francisco, 164 in san diego. You saw the cardinals playing in le levis stadium. If it got very unhealthy, that game might not have happened.
