oakland is going to reach up to 87 degrees. we will talk more about this coming up. mike, how is that looking for the commute? >> well, pretty good, kari, but i have to call out the east bay, because looking at the map, there is a green view of the sen source, but over here in freemont, northbound and 680 at the bend of washington and irving, showing the northbound slowing there with a crash perhaps caused by debris, and a larger boulder is reported in the roadways heading past washington and you can see the speed sensors changing. meanwhile in the same area as usual, we have the westbound commute from 580 and highway 84. in the same area, marcus, i hand it back to you. >> all right. staying on the breaking news for you, and this is the fires ripping through parts of the bay the numbers, and this fire has burned 1,700 acres and last report they had zero containment, and ten homes are under mandatory evacuation, and several more homeowners are in mill creek road, and they have been prepared that they may have to eevacuate, and it is going t be a hot one and not easy for the people who provide the power. and we are being warned to conserve energy for the hot temps or we could see the rolling blackouts lasting one or two hours with little to no notice, and that is the same notice for the last few days. and they have decided against the blackouts yesterday saying that the lower temps, and people conserving at home during the hours of 3:00 to 10:00 p.m. helped to keep the electricity on. governor newsom issued an emergency proclamation to issue that large energy companies are shifting to the backup sources, and governor newsom said that it is unacceptable that the state failed to predict for this crisis. >> we will get to the bottom of it, and lay out in detailed terms to make sure that this simply does not happen again. >> reporter: in a tweet last night, mayor sam liccardo blamed the rolling blackouts on pg&e's poor infrastructure which is caused by years of negligent, and underinvestment. he says that the shutoffs are due to meet the high power needs statewide and not due to pg&e's equipment, and they cite the record-breaking heat wave and enough to get the economy back on track. >> reporter: meanwhile, president trump is on a week-long campaign swing and railing against the universal mail voting. >> we have the win the election and been so hot in the past several days, and it looks like no major changes in the weather pattern. what is changing is the moisture that has brought us two mornings of storms has pushed to the bay area, and now as we are looking at what is left behind due to the fires that were sparked due to the lightning, and well, we have unhealthy air quality due to the drifts coming into today and the east bay and santa clara valley, and i will be monitoring that as well as the temperatures, and mike, how is that looking as the drivers are looking to go out of the door? >> a typical pattern except for here in freemont. looking at the map, and stretch here at northbound 680 pushing the curve over to washington district, and folks know that you will see the hillside, and looking at a rock in road and a >> right now, we are late bit away from where the actual fire is, and we are currently positioned in front of the roadblock on silverado trail south here in napa county. we can tell you that the fire investigators do believe that the fires were sparked by the lightning that we saw in the last couple of days, and specifically this one here in hennessey, and right now, the crews are working to slow the fire which is located near several wineries here in st. helena, and latest check by cal fire, this fire has consumed 2,400 acres and 205 structures are threatened at this point, and it is zero percent contained. chp reported lightning strikes before the fire, and now a day later, business and homeowners are doing what they can to protect their homes and businesses like putting out the sprinklers on the roofs and take a listen to what one business owner and nearby winery owner had to do with the thought of losing his 130-year-old business. >> it looped around the canyon, and now it is just where that smoke is up there. so, it's kind of at our perimeter. it is important for us to protect the house that he built you can't really replace that. >> as far as the other larger fire in the area, the gambel fire, and like the other one, it is zero percent contained and it is at 600 acres. it is important to note that cal fire had to knock down as many as 60 other smaller fires that were about an acre large, and that good news is that it did not spread to make these larger. and the good news is that the wind died down which is going to aid in knocking down the fires. we are live in napa county, and cierra johnson for today in the bay. >> thank you. in contra costa county, the deer zone complex fire is still burning out of control, and no containment. so far, it has burned 1,400 acres and the fires are centered the around deer valley road and marsh creek road in brentwood on the eastern side of mount diablo, and evacuations are still in effect. in sunol, the marsh creek fire is still burning out of control. this fire has burned close to 1,800 acres since sunday in the area of calaveras road and welch creek road and ten homes are still under mandatory evacuation orders. get up to the moment updates on your mobile device by downloading the nbc bay area app. and now, nancy pelosi is using a break from washington to speak about at the postal service. and now we will have a closer look at what is happening there, chris, and who else is speaking out there? >> well, a number of heavy hitters talk about the u.s. postal service, and if you been waiting for something in the mail, and it is taking longer to receive it, it is because there are big changes happening inside of the postal offices around the country, and it is something that the democrats say is following, this the u.s. postal service has a new postal master louis dejoy, and he is a trump campaign donor, and he has slashed overtime. these are postal boxes that are taken away, and this is what they say will pause for 90 days until after the election, and dejoy says he will be asked about this at an emergency meeting monday. nancy pelosi called it a campaign to sabotage the election, and she is going to be speaking at a rally outside of the bay area post office, and representative eric swalwell will be doing the same thing, and congresswoman eschoo is going to be in pal low al low, and they are talking about suing the administration. >> he is doing everything in his power to sow doubt and undermine the vote, and i am telling you that i will not let him get away with it. >> reporter: president trump says that the postmaster is trying to make sure that the post office is running properly, but at the same time at the same presser he said that post office is working very well. so house speaker nancy pelosi is calling the house back from the august recess to vote on giving $25 billion to the post office to roll back some of the changes and to make sure that it is running efficiently in time for the election. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> thank you. perhaps a small sense of closure may come for some of the victims of the golden state killer with an emotional hearing starting later today. a four-day sentencing trial is going to begin for joseph d'angelo. he is going to receive life in prison friday, but starting today, more than 30 victims and survivors plan to tell their stories and confront him in the sacramento courtroom. he admitted to crimes targeting 40 people over two decades ending in the mid-1980s. continuing the coronavirus coverage, and number of confirmed cases in the u.s. topped the 634,000 with a number of dead exceeding over 11,000. it is coming as the cdc says that covid-19 is the third leading cause of death in the united states. that is right behind heart disease and cancer. in the meantime, here in california, the number of deaths fell to below 130 on sunday as the state's hospitalization rate also fell. santa clara county leaders today consider budget cuts to the largest hospitals. the largest hospital that is sup supervisors are considering reducing costs at valley medical by eliminating more than 100 jobs. last year the county purchased three medical facilities from verite health. dr. fauci is going to join the bay area virtually. he is going to be at the commonwealth club and speaking about being on the front lines with not only coronavirus, but aids and ebola. today, lots of inland areas may be just as at risk with rising sea levels as those on the coast. that is the conclusion from uc berkeley researchers reported by the l.a. times and find that any surge would also affect ground levels which would impact things from below the ground inland by polluting soil and destroying the infrastructure. all right. well, the time to get a look at what we can expect from the forecast today, kari, and a big problem that we are worried about are the fires happening around the bay area. >> yeah, we continue to monitor weather conditions around those fires, and parts of napa county that we have the gamble fire and the hennessey fire and the weather conditions are favorable with the higher humidity and calm wind, but unfortunately so dry out there with the dry vegetation and the steep terrain, and we have seen the lightning that sparked a lot of the wildfires have moved farther to the north with the plume of the tropical moisture moving away from the bay area. i'll monitor the temperatures coming up, and mike, how is that looking for the commute right now? >> well, kari, most of it is pretty predictable. we will look over to the tri valley where we have had a persistent slowing from freemont, and the reason why is that even though the crash cleared that set it off, it is the northbound side with the crews still there, and the map that is typical build out of altamont pass and 84, and then more slowing as well for the southbound commute because of the issue of the crash around andrade which i thought had cleared to the shoulder, but it has not, and so the slow build will affect the commute there, but it should be cleared over the next few minutes. the rest of the bay is an easy dry especially the toll bridge over there at the bay bridge, and we will track it though as it is slowing. thank you very much, mike. it is 5:41 and under fire and still ahead on "today in the bay" claims made by a former trump aide wondering if some victims of the california wildfires were used as political pawns. president trump is indicating that he is not going to accept the results of the election unless he wins. we will take a closer look. and plus an end all around of those empty seats. and we will tell you why you should expect a change with the nfl. coming up, we will have a new dish on a new single. and the breakout star of the "tax collector" bobby soto all happening on "california live." right now at 5:44, the excessive heat warning continues today for the inland area that we will see the temperatures back into the triple digits for many spots. make sure that you are taking care of pets and friends and family who may not have air conditioning. we will talk about what is ahead in the forecast coming up. i am looking agent a l ing slowing in south bay 101 and things are picking up, and ing down at bay bridge toll plaza in the middle lane. back to you, laura. >> thank you, mike. nearly a week after it started the firefighters are battling a massive wildfire that is burning in northern l.a. county, and we have talked about this one near lake fire and it has scorched more than 19,000 acres. it is about 38% contained at this point so far. now, flames have destroyed 12 structures and 21 outbuildings and evacuation orders for the people in that area remain in effect. in the meantime, another fire is burning in southern california and keeping the crews very busy this morning. it is in holser canyon in ventura county. and flames have burned more than 1100 acres so far, and it is zero percent contained. white house is responding to explosive new political ad accusing president trump of withholding fema money for california wildfire victims. it is put out by miles taylor who says that he ordered wildfire money to be withheld because california voters did not support him. there is no evidence to say that federal aid was ever withheld. a white house spokesperson says that taylor is trying to cash in and never understood the president's agenda when he worked in going to accept the results if he loses. >> scott mcgrew, the way that the polls are looking, he may very well lose? >> yeah, we are still 77 days away, and there is a lot to happen, and goodness knows, marcus, the last time we went through this, the polls were very wrong, but the latest nbc and washington wall street polls show biden ahead nationally, and many are concerned with what the president said monday, because if he loses, it is because the election is rigged. >> so we have to win the election, and we can't play game, and get out and vote, and do those beautiful absentee ballots or just make sure that your vote gets counted, and make sure, because the only way that we will lose this election is if the election is rigged. remember that. >> and now, this is not the first time that president trump has cast doubt on the american democratic system. he said, the 2016 election was rigged while he was running, and was actually probably expecting to lose. then after he won, he still said it was rigged. here he is talking about the process in the last election. >> the system, and you know, the system is all rigged and this is why we have to win big, and on tuesday, everybody has to go out to vote, and we have to win big, because the system is rigged. >> i will totally accept the results of this great and historic presidential election if i win. >> and here's the trump tweet from the election before that one, 2012. he is not even in this election, and this is obama versus romney and he says that one was rigged as well. it seems to be working. the latest poll show fewer and counted. even though there is no strong evidence that should worry them. the latest poll by nbc and "the wall street journal" shows that nearly half of americans don't trust the process, and that the number is up a staggering 11% since the last election. president trump says he is going to pardon today, somebody famous he says, and that is no doubt part of the showmanship learned on reality television, and give the folks a tease, and this is all coming in the middle of the democratic national convention. we will be watching for that, and we will be talking about it on twitter and you can find me on cgrew. well, you will be finding fans in the stands when the kansas city chiefs host the first game right here on nbc bay area. local leaders signed off on the plan to allow the stadium to fill 1/5 of the full capacity which means nearly 17,000 die-hard fans will be there. the niner fans, don't get your hopes up, because you can't expect the same thing when the season opens up at levy's, but the team went full speed yesterday for the camp and the nfl is limiting contact as part of the distancing rules. trending this morning, joe biden is getting celebrity endorsement from cardi b. >> yes, she recently spoke with the democratic candidate with "elle" magazine and including topics such as parenthood. >> biden, when you have kids like my age, and like mine 2 years old, you know, things never go as planned. >> you are telling me?
