The only exception to the rules is if a doctor gives a person a written note exempting them because of a medical condition. Well in california, more than half of the positive cases of covid are in the hispanic community. Today the governor said the biggest spread is happening with essential workers, mostly farm workers. Joining us from watsonville is dr. Amy at a Community Health center that serves the community in watsonville. Thank you for everything you are doing and joining us tonight. The Latino Community has been hit the hardest. What is it like working at the center and hearing from the farm workers . Weve been preparing knowing that this community would be hit hard. This is a virus that spreads when there is close living quarters and crowding Living Conditions. And we were accepting this and so weve been educating our patients about how they could protect themselves. Weve reached out to patients that have multiple People Living in the household and working to prepare to help them stay as healthy as possible knowing that this would be hard for our patients. Governor newsom said a reason why so many of them are getting infected is because there are several families, multiple families living under one roof and then when one person gets infected, it is really hard or almost impossible for that person to isolate. How is the clinic helping them with that and there is some information out there they may not know about. Yes, thats correct. We are seeing this in the farm working community and really this is about farm workers are essential workers and theyre picking and growing the foods that help us to all stay healthy and it is a low wage job and in a market that has very high cost of living. So there is crowding Living Conditions and that makes it difficult when somebody does get the virus it spreads quickly. Weve been working to educate people about ways to stay safe, to wear a mask, to wash your hands and socially distance. The a lot of spread has to do with small family gatherings and socializing, and so weve been doing education about how to keep yourself healthy and prevent the spread through hand washing and wearing a mask and staring socially distant. You dont treat Covid Patients at the clinic but you are providing Outpatient Care and testing. How is that going . Is there just a lot of people or do they know it is aavailable to get tested . Yes. Weve done a lot of work to put education out in the community in spanish and english and and we do provide a lot of testing. Were testing about 50 patients a day. This is really important to be able to identify the virus when it is there and then be able to help people to isolate. Although were not treating, treatment in the hospital, we are providing education to help people to stay healthy and our goal is to keep people out of the hospital so we test early and we identify the virus and help people isolate. Have you seen the number of people getting tested increase over the past month . Yes. Specifically in the last two weeks weve had a rise in cases in watsonville like much of the state has seen and weve had a huge increase in demand for services. Weve had to really shift a lot of our chronic care over it acute care to meet that demand. Were getting many calls every day to come in to be tested and to be evaluated. Thank you so much for all of your work and doing all of that community outreach, it is so critical and important to the farm workers down there in that community. Keep up the good work. Thanks for your time tonight. Thank you. Well the town of truckee up near lake tahoe is yanking away the welcome matt.
