Republicans Police Reform bill up for a vote today. Those youngsters who today are afraid to jog down the street or get in their car and drive. Reporter todays vote just to debate that plan. Democrats plan to block it. They say the bill is fundamentally flawed. The question is this. Who do you trust, the naacp or Mitch Mcconnell . Reporter the bill crafted by the senates lone black republican tim scott collects data and withholds federal funds from police that use chokeholds but doesnt ban them outright. Republicans accuse democrats of hindering progress. We have Chuck Schumer with a chokehold on the justice act and our opportunity for Police Reform in america. She says the vote is a slap in the face for those who sought much deeper cuts to funding and for not publicly posting the plan ahead of time. Santa rosa is another city debating police cuts. According to the press democrat councilmembers will continue the conversation today. Union city police are investigating the possible hate crime. A resident says someone vandalized his car because he had a black lives matter. Hes parked it for years without any problems. They say they are raising funds to help fix the car. They say no one should have had to endure anything like that. Continuing our coronavirus coverage, californias recent surge is continuing. On monday alone more than 5,000 people tested positive. 65 people died. U. P. S. Drivers say recent positive cases may be slowing some of your package deliveries. The union says five bay area u. P. S. Drivers have recently tested positive. Two in san bruno and three in San Francisco. The union is demanding tighter safety protocols including temperature checks upon entry, better social distancing and alerts when someone tests positive. I think the members would like to know who it is. That would give them some satisfaction of knowing they were in contact with this person. U. P. S. More of that june gloom hanging over the city as it mists and drizzles here, and then it just rolls back to the coast and gives San Francisco a little bit of sunshine. Thats the kind of weather we should be seeing at the end of june, highs in the low 80s while San Francisco will mostly be in the 60s especially for the weekend as we get more of the cooler ocean air moving across the city. Nbc bay area responds to a milpitas family faced with a huge hospital bill. So they asked consumer investigator chris chmura and his team to intervene. Reporter good morning. Last year the roy familys daughter was admitted to packard Childrens Hospital in palo alto under a doctors orders. They say they were there from midday until about 1 00 a. M. , but the hospital billed their insurance 16,000 for an overnight stay. Their copay was about 1,800. Since they didnt spend the night the roys thought that charge was excessive. They disputed it but the hospital stood by all of that. So the roys turned to us for help. We asked the hospital to review the case. It told us it cant comment because of privacy laws, but the roys said they got a partial refund of their copay, 569. 04. As the roys discovered your status in the hospital can have big consequences for the amount you are charged, like checking into a hotel. Once you are admitted to a hospital you might expect to pay for the room for the entire night. The federal government, in fact, recommends medicare subscribers ask whether theyre being labelled inpatient or outpatient. We think thats good advice for anyone.
