Illegal fireworks have been a problem for years in san jose. Its not just a problem in the south bay, but one echoed from oakland to San Francisco. Posing a risk of fires. The Santa Clara County Fire Department issued this statement saying fireworks are illegal, dangerous and could result in fires and injuries that are easily preventable. New at 11 00, a flash point during a 24 hour protest in santa rosa kept investigators busy this weekend trying to figure out exactly who was at fault. At 9 30 police were called near brooklyn avenue. Thats where a crowd had gathered for the 24 hour protest of peace and justice. A woman said she had just gotten off her shift as a nurse and was trying to drive home when she got stuck in the crowd. She said people in that crowd broke her windshield, punched her in the face before she drove away. Protesters have a different story. All she had to do was pullover. What she did was accelerate through a crowd of people. I think it doesnt matter if shes a nurse as far as what she did. We dont care who you are, just pull over. Investigators reviewed video, and they have decided not to cite the woman. A follow up now to the controversy involving a College Professor who wanted a student to angelo size the pronunciation of her name. In an email exchange, Matthew Hubbard took issue with a students name saying that in english it sounded like an insult. Hubbard issued an apology yesterday. Tonight hes on leave and the president of the board of trustees has weighed in saying the board does not take these allegations lightly and understands the need to challenge and eliminate racism and white supremacsupremacy, in the suppression of native cultures and languages and demands that people of color conform to norms of whiteness. There were people and families that couldnt bring their children because of concerns of the protesters. According to estimates from the tulsa fire marshal, about 6,200 people were in the rally. For several days, one Million People requested tickets. Lots of people did reserve them but never intended to show up. I just want to explain the numbers of tickets that they thought or people they thought were going to come. So that they would over produce and have a lot of resources put into that rally specifically. He is young an online swarm of activists across the country who mobilized against the Trump Campaign. One of his biggest weaknesses is his ego. I think expecting millions of people to show up to your rally and then having an entire section like right behind you just be empty is a huge blow to his ego. A statement down playing those efforts and instead blaming Media Coverage warning people away from the rallies because of covid and protesters had a real impact on people bringing their families and children to the rally. The Trump Campaign is also disputing the estimates. According to the campaign 12,000 people walked through their metal detectors to get to that rally. Earlier today temperatures in the low 9 0s. Quite a spread of our summertime micro climates. Only low 70s in oakland. But you drive 20 to 30 minutes off to the east and you are in the 80s and 90s. Heat advisory all the way to the beginning of next weekend. This really is almost seven days of 90 degree temperatures across the east bay valleys, including Solano County and, yes, in addition to those hot temperatures, fire dangers starting to go up because above that cooler marine air, the hills will stay dry. Today in new york, a new video. It appears to show an nypd officer using a choke hold on a black man until he passed out. Nypd says theyre aware of the video and are taking the incident extremely seriously. The accused officer has been suspended without pay during the investigation. A follow up now to the call for reforms from Police Officers union. This weekend the Police Chiefs of san jose, San Francisco and los angeles wrote a joint op ed supported the response to the civil unrest. Here is a little of what they said. We salute the unions call for needed police reform, denunciation of racism and repudiation of racist Police Officers. We support their proposed first steps of reform and urge swift legislative action to cod fi these recommendations to they drive the cultural shift that can achieve lasting social change in law enforcement. The chiefs also called for a statewide effort to better train officers in how to deal with crowds. People are not just marching for social justice. Theyre also skateboarding for justice. More than a dozen protesters gathered along freemont boulevard. Because its fathers day, a skateboarding day and whats happening in the world right now, were demanding change. Protesters say theyre looking to support black lives as well as bringing attention to diversifying government representation. Now to making it in the bay, members of east bays Interfaith Community gathered to build tiny homes today. The volunteers are building homes for young adults between the ages of 18 and 25. They will give the homes to those on the verge of becoming homeless. Right now theyre working on the 20th of the 26 homes. A group of young adults realized there is opportunity to change their futures and as a consequence were excited for them. Once completed, the homes are going to go along oakland and a Second Community of tiny homes under construction along alcatraz avenue in berkeley. All right. Probably looking at some patchy low cloud as we head into the morning. And in walnut creek, it was the first we think of seven days into the 90s. We hit 92 today. Currently 62. And actually the nighttime temperatures will trend more mild. The hottest places likely in the next seven days, Solano County, lake county. This will include clear lake, fairfield locations that will see those low to mid90s. Even 100 degree temperatures tomorrow. So winds still technically onshore. Thats going to bring in some of the low clouds in San Francisco and locally across the bay. So, again, as we talk about the big warmup, the hottest days of the week holding up until friday and saturday. So morning clouds clear inland. Temperatures in the 50s to start the day. Could have some drizzle even inland early on and then the sunshine starts to break out. And look at the temperatures starting the upward climb. Closer to san jose. Upper 80s. 90s south of downtown. Campbell. Trivalley up to concord. Numbers in the low 90s, but still pretty comfortable inland. 90 degrees. But farther north, thats where the temperatures really take off. Peninsula temperatures 70s and 80s. San francisco just enough of a sea breeze to keep another day. Trending w and there is the heat. Look at the north bay. Triple digit temperatures. Two spots that will be climbing quite hot. And santa rosa up to 93 degrees. Here is the temperature trend in the seven day forecast at the bottom of the screen. Friday and saturday look to be the hottest days. Watch as High Pressure holds it ground and strengthens. Temperatures not changing a whole lot until about wednesday. Then friday and saturday the high briefly strengthened. This time next weekend, it might get interesting as pressure builds in after five to seven days after this hot and dry air mass settled in. You might have to watch out for fire danger. As the winds pick up, which will lead to cooling, it will be quite dry especially inland at east bay. So while were seeing breezy and cooler, stay tuned as those winds will be quite dry for some of our inland areas. First full week of summer looking a lot like it there in the seven day forecast.
