One in oakland and another in Santa Cruz County. And the shooting of a deputy yesterday we told you about in paso robles. Today in the bay bob redell is live to talk about both of these and the investigation meantime to look for the shooter still along the way along the central coast, bob. Laura. Within the past several hours we learned that Law Enforcement appears to be closing in on the suspect in the paso robles area. Overnight Law Enforcement heard him firing off his gun. Law enforcement was heard setting off flash bang grenades at a nearby apartment complex and we also know they shut off the highway 101 onramp. In the ongoing search for this man his name is mason james lira and a 26yearold homeless man from the monterey area. The san loui obispo said he opened fire on the Police Department early yesterday morning. When chp and deputies arrived to help, lira shot a deputy in the face and took off. We do not know the condition of that deputy. Investigators also believe that lira shot and killed a man whose body was found at a nearby amtrak station. Our Investigative Unit learned that federal agents are learning whether the oakland and Santa Cruz County is connected to this attack in paso robles. You recall a sheriff was killed in ben lomond and two others were injured and officials have arrested a man named steven carrillo. They believe carrillo is part of a domestic terrorist cell. Authorities believe the white van used in that oakland shooting is the same one they recovered in the Santa Cruz County attack. However, the driver of that van remains at large. Three weeks is not a lot of time left to come up with that plan not having much of a summer break at this point as they try to prepare that plan to reopen for the fall and present it to parents and teachers this afternoon. The district of 30,000 students shut down in march and conducted distanced learning until the end of the school year last week like many districts did. The state superintendent issued a 62page guidelook covering everything from safety and sanitation to models for instruction. Parents frustrated by how the district handled Distance Learning are banning together on a Facebook Page called teach our kids. There are about 900 members. They want more clear and consistent expectations for students and teachers and for the district to inovaivate to rh students at all levels. Were at 55 degrees in san martin and 63 degrees right now in concord. So, nice, cool start to the day. Its the best time to get out for a workout. As we check out our temperature trend in martinez, some 60s for the next couple of hours and then as we head towards noon, were reaching the low 80s eventually be in the mid up toer 80s today. As we reach up to 90 degrees in antioch and morgan hill expect a high of 89 degrees. Well see palo alto reaching 82 and napa reach 86 degrees. Were coming off of that really hot weather that we had the past couple days. Its still going to be warm for some of us, but some cooler air will start to move in as a storm system passes to our north and also brings in that slight chance of rain farther to the north and the north bay. And then as we look at next week, High Pressure starts to build once again and its going to give us some hotter temperatures from sunday into the start of next week. So, our cool down only happens for a couple of days. Were in the upper 80s today. Some mid 70s tomorrow as that marine layer and that fog really builds near the coast and it will keep it foggy there. Inland areas will get enough of an ocean breeze to help cool us off. On saturday were still looking pretty good and still some comfortably warm weather for the inland areas on sunday but we start to trend back into the 90s for early next week while San Francisco will mostly see some 60s over the next few days. Mike, youve been keeping an eye on the commute. How is it looking . You know, were looking a little crowded over at the bay bridge toll plaza and windows up. Well make sure that we dont spread anything over there as far as any disease because we still have, of course, to socially distance. But i dont know how that would apply over at the toll plaza. Again, windows are up and metering lights are on. The map shows you the slower drive and i circled that over there and out of San Francisco, notice this. A little slowing, as well, on the incline away from San Francisco. It just cleared in the last 30 seconds but i will watch and heard of no problems out of the city or into the city. The rest of the bay shows a smooth drive. Slowing in the usual spots. San mateo is picking up the volume a bit and westbound over to the peninsula.
