Were looking at a slight warmup for today, but a much bigger warmup as we go into tomorrow, as we start out with a live look outside in san jose and checking out our temperature trend in the mid50s but then seeing the temperatures trending into the low 70s by noon. And once again a fairly mild day. But just a little bit warmer than it was yesterday. Were still going to keep those clouds as our High Temperature through the inland valleys reach up to 84, but along the coast were staying in the 60s. Well talk about temperatures in the mid to upper 90s in the forecast. Thats coming up in a few minutes. Mike, youve been monitoring the morning commute. Whats going on this morning . Kari, we have a car fire reported in oakland. Ill show you folks the green sensors all around the bay. As far as the Speed Sensors go, which is great as you expect right now, over to eastbound 580 just past highway 24 getting away from the bay bridge, reports of one car fire there. The incident should be light and so should traffic because many of the city curfews were talking about last until 5 00 a. Breaking overnight the bay area unrest and the chaos went on despite curfews in effect in many bay area cities. In the late night hours protesters remained out in force and the looting continues. Numerous bay area cities do have curfews in effect until at least 5 00 this morning. You can see those cities on the map San Francisco, san jose,. Also because of those protests the state offices in downtown San Francisco and san jose are shut down today as well. The Santa Clara County superior court also closed. This morning mayor london breed in San Francisco is expected to address the city and again react to that looting. That is coming up at 10 00 this morning and nbc bay area will stream it live. Three people detained for allegedly shooting at Oakland Police administration. This is that building on 7th street. No one was injured and Police Actually tweeted out this photo about 1 00 a. M. In some cases bay area Law Enforcement is stopping to show its support during protests, even in the line of duty. Take a look at the scene here tweeted out last night by the city of oakland. Someone there, youhen taking a knee with those protesters, some of whom could be heard applauding. Our regular viewer, Mark Rodriguez in brentwood, sent us this shot, the chief of police in brentwood, kneeling in solidarity with the protesters there as well. And the image is getting a lot of traction this morning. Santa cruz police chief andrew mills is kneeling with protesters on pacific avenue yesterday in tribute to george floyd. The chief says his death disturbs him to his core. Happening today a demonstration at San Francisco city hall. Thats supposed to include oscar winner jamie foxx. He will join interfaith leaders for a nekneelin protest. That event starts at 11 00 a. M. A new video this morning of an overnight fire in Southern California this morning. It happened at a Mens Clothing store in long beach shortly after looters were reported in that very same area. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire was too intense to even enter the building and firefighters had to watch it from the outside, take a defensive position, they call it. So far no word on the cause of that fire. Despite a citywide curfew protests in los angeles again escalated into violence and chaos. Even before nightfall, Police Responded to numerous reports of looting there. Firefighters had to battle several large flames as well. One protesters talked about the importance of not losing the message behind the chaos. It matters and when i think of ten years in the future when i have kids and i can tell them i stood up for something that matters, this is what ill think about. The citywide curfew is being. L. A. County has declared a state of emergency. Looters causing a lot of damage. Bob redell is with us in san leandro. At one point that walmart was up in flames. Reporter yeah, that fire is out. Well show you the walmart in a second. I spoke with a San Leandro Police officer, and he tells me the looters were everywhere that they were chasing their tails trying to keep up. The looting has, unfortunately, been widespread throughout san leandro and the east bay. Sheriffs offices says looters targeted the marina shopping center, the mall in hayward, union landing, shops in the fruitvale district of oakland, alameda, berkeley, castro valley, downtown san leandro. Youre looking at the destruction at the west gate shopping center. You can see they broke into several Stores Including a home depot and walmart. This is actually a Burlington Store were looking witnesses with stolen were caravanning in merchandise and then driving off to the next location. As far as that walmart is concerned thats right over here behind me. As i mentioned the fire is out but this is what it looked like. The Fire Department says they were called out to the store twice overnight. Looters set small fires inside. The building is damaged but it is saved. Its not going to be torn down or anything like that. All the merchandise inside is a loss due to smoke and water damage. It appears people were stealing anything clothes, tvs, diapers, even child safety seats for cars. This is video from down south in hayward. Several people looted the tactical gun shop. According to the owner of the building, not the shop, two vehicles. Eight people broke in and stole guns. Not sure how many. Police and the gun shop owner are reviewing the inventory. Back out here live this is the looted overnight. These are employees that were cleaning up here. Foe and steal anything, according to the employees. I did ask the Sheriffs Office how many arrests overnight. A spokesperson tells me hes been so busy. Hes not sure. As far as the number of arrests, not enough. Were looking at the roadways where its mostly green and what we would expect right now. The traffic flow, many curfews, many cities remain in effect until 5 00. We shouldnt see anybody who is not supposed to be out there who is not an emergency worker out there. Looking at westbound 580 out of the Altamont Pass slowing. Thats a pattern weve come to expect. Were in the fifth week of the slowing. For today they are bringing the express lanes back into service as far as paying for them, 680, for example, through walnut creek and 237. Im watching a report of a fire near downtown san jose. Northbound 280. Around 11th, no lanes blocked and it sounds like everything should be under control but im going to track that with no slowing on our sensors. Many protests turned destructive with acts of violence including some at the flash point from resistance in minneapolis where we find today in the bays jay gray who has the latest. Reporter overnight waves of frustration and at times fury. Across the country tense confrontation between protesters and police at times escalating out of control. This crowd in boston burning a patrol car and at one point tossing a tear gas canister back at police n. New york a line of officers slowly walking back hundreds of protesters. In washington flames raging in a park just across from the white house. Looters breaking into a row of shops in los angeles. And in birmingham, alabama, a crowd turns its anger to a confederate monument. In minneapolis, the city thats been the flash point for the outrage in violence since George Floyds death, an overwhelming show of force. Dozens of protesters refusing to empty the streets at curfew are arrested. The National Guard locking down what, for the first time in a week, are mostly quiet streets here. Though earlier this tanker barrels into a crowd of thousands, many jumping onto and some into the cab. Somehow no one was injured. The driver arrested. I think the incident just underscores still the volatile situation we have out there. Reporter a situation that has millions on edge right now. Protesters insist theyll continue their Peaceful Demonstrations here while police, sheriffs deputies and the National Guard say they will make sure it stays that way. A large donation made by the San Francisco 49ers owner debartolo is raising eyebrows, relating to George Floyds death, but its causing unrest among some former 49ers teammates at this point. Citing discrimination announced the 49ers would donate 1 million to local and National Groups creating change. That gesture sparked a heated social Media Exchange between eric reid and torrey smith. Reid, you might remember, joined Colin Kaepernick in kneeling during the National Anthem which led to so much controversy. The niners chose not to resign him and kaepernick never played again.
