Five days, two weeks later, we find were going to have spikes in cases i think over the next week or two, were going to see cases rise what will matter is how they get treated and controlled so we dont have outbreaks the big concern even for today,t of folks head out on this memorial day its that small group you need to be 10 or less small group of people you trust. Tell people all the time, if somebody is in your group, youre not just bringing that person in, youre bringing everybody they have been in contact with over the last few weeks and all their germs as well you want to make sure you trust they have done the right things over the last couple of weeks to stay safe and that means social distancing and wearing the masks like you are talking about and stay in small groups and dont share items like water bottles, sunscreen. Other models have shown something similar. What this one particularly is showing that 24 states that are not number how many people get infected from the person who have it is more than one so that means it is still spreading in those states and the fact that people are still getting together is concerning for outbreaks. How are they looking craig, were unofficially kicking off summer today for some areas it certainly feels like it certainly out west where temperatures likely break records in the coming days highs well up into the 80s and 90s down towards the country down across texas where we could see Severe Weather and flooding possible down through florida where the ground is wet and more rain is likely as we get into the middle of the week, that rain tries to shift to the east but very, very slowly were still looking at wet weather back to the west, florida and southeast, warms up in the northeast i gets exceptionally hot in the southwest where we will see 25 cities breaking recordhigh temperatures. That rain is going shift to the east friday and rain up and down the east coast with thundershoweshowers and good morning. Im meteorologist kari hall. Were looking at really hot weather today. In fact, heat advisories will be in effect for the inland valleys as we reach into the upper 90s. Dylan, thank you. Now to our ongoing series, today celebrates the class of 2020. This was supposed to be a big weekend for High School Graduations all over this country, kristen. Thats right. Unfortunately many ceremonies were called off, of course but in texas a number of students were still able to have their very special day in a special way. Nbcs Kerry Sanders has more on this good morning, kerry. Good morning, guys. Its been really tough for a lot of kids because they are having their graduations at home on the internet but in texas where they do everything bigger, they decided they would have a graduation where the seniors crossed the finish line of high school in the most unique ways at texas motor speedway, its not the roaring engines. But the pomp and pageantry of graduation taking place at this racetrack. 34 high schools with nearly 14,000 seniors whose graduations were affected by covid19. The graduating seniors had temperature checks, wore masks, and were socially distant. We are practicing social distancing, and we have plenty of room for you the spread out. Reporter graduates accepted their diplomas as they crossed the track. Graduates, start your engines. Its cool for the families see their child cross the finish were able to have a graduation at all. In the past parents would sit in their chairs and watch kids walk across the stage getting their diplomas at the texas motor speedway, in the infield, in their cars looking up at the 22,000 square feet screen. Memorial day cooking tips. Joining us to answer your questions from our my today plaza crowd is our friend chef Sunny Anderson, food network star, Proud Air Force veteran as well always good to see you, my friend, even if from afar. Lets get right to it. Weve got jason standing by from pennsylvania with a question about grilling jason, go ahead, man. So sunny, were talking ribs, dry rub or sauce, which would you prefer and what are the pros and cons for either one of them . Okay. Jason, i love both. I love the dry rub because it creates that crust, and it kind of seeps into the actual ribs. Good dry rib good for beef rib, in the end i like to serve it with a sidecar of barbeque sauce. Im going to show you a really good dry rib good for beef rib, pork ribs, can use it on poultry and vegetable. Its simple. My one, two, three rub craig, you know i do these on the show very simple. One of something, two of something and three of something. So it makes it really easy to remember the ratios and recipe the one is one tablespoon of chili powder the two is two tablespoons of hot hungarian paprika or you can use regular smoked paprika three is three tablespoons of cumin. Im going to mix them all together what youre going to do, take the ribs, peel silverback off. If you dont know how to, check out my instagram i was doing that last night. Season the ribs with salt and pepper, and rub it down and let it rest in the refrigerator overnight. Then youre going to get it onto your grill create a moist environment sometimes ill put a water pail over here. Every couple of hours or so i give it a baste. Look at that i cannot get it off without it breaking off the bone. Thats what im talking about. Yeah, craig, i heard that come on down. I wish i could. I wish i was there. Jason, thank you. Thats a good question. This is really simple to do, the 1, 2, 3 rub. Lets go to natasha. She is joining us from the islands here, and natasha is joining us from the bahamas. Were doing pork chops today and were wondering what seasoning is the best for pork chops and should you marinade them overnight well, i love to do a quick marinade on pork chops pork chops, they need a lot of really quickly one of my easiest marinades, quick pork chop. Bone in or a regular chop. Very simple youll probably have the ingredients. By the way, shout out to the bahama islands and all of my friends there. Love you and miss you. Hey and so for my easy grilled pork chop, it is very simple, just pantry pulls. Cumin with red chili spice got to have a little spice ive got Apple Cider Vinegar this makes it a really quick marinade olive oil. Or cooking oil. Then i love sweetness with my pork chop, so some good old honey go and i have my pork chop in a bag here. Ecause the other half, we will use for it has the sugar in there, so it is going to caramelize. And just about an hour or two hours at room temperature. On the grill ive got one here. Just come in, hit it like that with a little bit of your love then right onto your plate craig, you want a closeup of this or not . I do. Governor newsom today will have an update on the parts of california that can enter into phase three of the reopening. Much of the state is now in phase two. The next phase involves reopening higher risk places like salons, gyms and churches. The governor last week said phase three could start in june. June 1st is monday. And newsom also may issue new guidelines for the reopening of california churches. Some bay area churches plan to reopen next sunday no matter what, even if theyre told to stay closed. More than 1,000 california churches have made a similar vow. Last friday an Appeals Court upheld governor newsoms ban on inperson service. Kris sanchez is following developments.
