I look outside and almost everybody i see in my neighborhood is wearing a mask and i wonder to myself, what if that call had come two, three weeks ago, a month ago to wear a cloth mask. If it is mild people recover in two weeks, more severe symptoms could be up to six wks. Then after a quick shower upstairs she reflects a bit more, recording with her ipad. When youre wearing full personal protective equipment and a very tight mask its very difficult to breathe. Today one of our nurses got affected by that and almost passed out. So today was just draining. Even when savoring a victory, arlene finds it hard to hold back the tears. Today was the first day that we were able to move one of our patients out of the intensive care unit. I may be tearyeyed but im still full of happiness. But one day victory can turn into another days tragedy. Today was a very hard day, for all of us at holy name. I cried the whole way home. Last friday night her tears were for a 75yearold transp t transporter who carried patients from room to room for 27 years. Such a hard, dedicated worker, always smiling, always polite, never complaining. Until he fell sick a with the virus that infected the very patients he was trying to help. We lined the walls. As he was taken away. That was a beautiful moment. Value everyone in your life. Cherish every moment. And take nothing for granted. To date, the hospital has lost 59 patients to this virus and yet nurses like arlene, doctors, and support staff will continue around the clock here and in hospitals around the country, as more of the sick are brought in, desperate for help. We usually rescue about 12 Million Pounds of food from the Grocery Stores across the kunitz and consumer demand depleted those. We have purchased 26 trucks full of food, more than an entire year. You might think there wouldnt be hunger problem in nebraska, the nations bread basket. Roughly 250,000 people in the state of nebraska are considered food insecure. Thats before covid19.
