And tonight, stanford is asking students to leave campus after an undergrad student tested positive for covid19. The university now says all students need to leave by wednesday. Finals for undergrads will be optional, and only students who meet special requirements will be allowed to stay on campus. Late tonight, we learned a second person in Santa Clara County has died from the coronavirus. A woman in her 80s. She is the fifth californian killed by covid19. Lets take a look at the bay area numbers. Santa clara county has the most cases, 79 infected people at last count. The county is now taking things one step further, gatherings of 100 people or more are banned. We know that the outbreak of covid19 in our county will continue to accelerate, and we anticipate many, many more cases in the days and weeks to come. San francisco has also banned all nonessential events with more than 100 people. That could be your favorite restaurant, Little League opening day, any big party. The list goes on. This ban runs through april 30th. First costco and trader joes, now your favorite little neighborhood store. The hordes of coronavirus shoppers have made a move toward mom and pop shops, leaving those just as empty as the big box stores. One of the most popular items, rice. Its like a doomsday kind of mentality. Theyre just stocking up, and they need their provisions. Also there today, all of those field hospitals set up to treat covid19 patients, those were closed. So what exactly did china do to contain the virus . Well, first off the government locked down the entire region. We are talking about strict rules put in place. Each household could only send one person out for essentials once every three days. Patients with even mild symptoms were sent to designated sites to recover. And people who came in contact with anyone who was infected, they were quarantined. South korea is in recovery phase as well. 8,000 people infected. Now 500 are recovering. South korea tested more than any other country. It created free drivethrough centers to help test up to 15,000 patients a day. Now, testing in the u. S. Has been very limited so far. But event cancellations and increasing shutdowns and all those selfisolations that were doing, that is keeping people apart and hopefully that will work. So what will happen when the markets open on monday . We dont know, but we know today wall street, stocks ended a roller coaster week with a welcome rally. We are under a microclimate weather alert due to some of the heavier rain that we expect at this point. I did want to start off with something thats common sense. Weve been talking about it a lot but with this colder and wetter weather, a lot of us probably going to be heading indoors closer to each other this weekend. So its just some simple hand washing tips. This is from the World Health Organization and the cdc. Make sure to wash your hands often. Sing happy birthday twice. Thats usually long enough. Soap and water works best. Apply enough to cover your hands and dry them wall. Alcohol, sanitizer, you can use that, but soap and water again is recommended and actually works best with some of this research. Its a storm front associated with our wet weather pattern. Looks like this could actually stall out over the peninsula, maybe near San Francisco or the south bay. Where that happens we might have an isolated Flooding Risk due to some higher tals that could come our way. Were going to be here this weekend and well be all over it.
