Dwayne began writing songs as a young girl, dreaming of her escape. By eight she was performing at local bars. So youre at like third or fourth grade and in the bar. The official bar service stopped at midnight. I would be the after midnight entertainment. Wow and then i would have to get up for school. And what did the mom and dad say about you going to the bar at midnight. They were taking to the bar. My mother was managing me. That was the way of getting exposure and getting me experience. High school she moved to nashville. But in 1987 as she was back hom. Her parents both have been killed in a car accident. At 22 twain returned to ontario to raise her four siblings. There will never be another shock like that in my life, losing both my parents at the same time. Suddenly in a car accident. Suddenly like that. It was the impossible tragedy to and trauma to cope with. Eventually with her siblings on their feet, twain returned to nashville. Within months she was signed to a record label and began collaborating with say music producer named robert john mutt lang. I was like, youre writing all of this stuff yourself and he was already in love with my voice and he wanted to produce my voice and that is what ive done ever since. Twain and lang and had a together they wrote twains second album the woman in me and went on to sell 20 million copies worldwide and earned twain a 1996 grammy for best country album. Her next album was a musical earthquake. Come on over features hitting like youre still the one, man i feel like a woman, and that account dont impress me much became the biggest selling album by a female musician of all time. It sold 40 million copies and won four grammys making twain a bonafide crossover superstar. So when you ask me how i felt, i was not really feeling much. I was working and i wasnt even appreciating the success. Then as shania sat on top of the music world, personal tragedy visited again. In 2008 she announced her divorce from lang, and then she felt silent, literally. Shania thought she had lost her voice in the fatigue of a painful public split but she learned she had contracted lyme disease which affected her vocal chords. I remember people thinking and saying where is shania twain. It is devastating. I was very sad to the point i felt i had no other choice but to just accept it and i would never sing again. You must have been in mourning in some way. This thing that has been my life for all of my life is gone. I was mourning. I was mourning the expression of my voice. Her friend swiss businessman fred reek tubo helped her and married in 2011. Do you remember hearing your voice the first time you sang after the surgery and felt like im back, i can do this again . It was little by little. Because the surgery is in vasive and has given me more and i have gravel and i think it is kind of sexy. I found a new voice and i like it. Today the 54yearold twain is flexing the new voice at her Las Vegas Residency called lets go. So what will fans see thinking about coming to vegas to see you again, what will they see in the show. It is a less formal environment first of all. So it is a very standup, get out of your seat kind of show but i feel privileges. This is a reward that i see as a reward. So we had to look for a different model that might work within oureas across the countr turning small towns into unlikely food deserts. Cows to d but must drive buy staples like bananas and bread. A nationwide about 200 independent Grocery Stores in rural areas close each year. Mostly forced out by bigger competitors. Since 1990 small grocers have lost about 25 of their Retail Market share. Saint john, kansas, last its own Grocery Store but decided to fight back. Carolyn dunn who leads the county Economic Development board and married to a farmer saw what could happen to her home without a Grocery Store it is a struggle to hold on to the other kind of essential services that make a town a town.
