New this morning, President Trump is not going to travel to the cdc. The white house said he doesnt want to interrupt their mission. Their mission includes trying to figure out how to get people tested. But the government is short on test kits, that is something Vice President pence has admitted and now trying to figure out how to deal with that. We dont have enough tests today to meet what we anticipate will be the demand going forward. It is critical that we get the tests back quickly to move patients through the emergency department. Reporter so the latest information on fighting this virus out of washington, congress has approved 8. 3 billion, most of that money, almost all of it, is going to fight the virus, to the cdc, to research for a vaccine, taking care of sick americans overseas. President trump is supposed to sign off on that today. We are now up to 14 deaths here in the united states. That is as of this morning. The waiting game continues for passengers aboard the San Francisco bound the grand princess cruise ship. The ship is off shore. And new this morning we just soak with one of the passengers on board. According to the grand princess they could be released today but well have to wait and see when the results come in but the test kits that were delivered behind me here to the richmond lab. This is when a helicopter actually brought those test kits to the richmond lab that you see behind me. You see that it was also given a Police Escort en route to this area. Now as far as where things stand this morning, we know that about 3500 people remain on board the ship with 45 passengers being tested for coronavirus. Now three people who cruised to mexico same ship have gotten the virus including a Placer County man who died a couple of days ago. Now 62 people from the cruise stayed on board taking the next cruise to hawaii which departed from San Francisco back on february 21st. Now we did speak with a passenger on the cruise ship this morning about how things are going on the ship so far. It is difficult now that were quarantined. It was nice when with we could have our run around the ship. But now being in the room things changed drastically. Reporter guests were told so stay in rooms and meals getting delivered and commentary internet. It is unsure when it will come to shore in today in the bay. And across the bay schools are taking precaution amidst coronavirus fears. San Francisco Lowell high school is closed por at least four days. This comes after School Leaders learned that the participa th parent is being treated. Monarch Charter Academy is being closed until monday with record a teacher may have a virus. If if you look across the bottom of the screen, there will be a list of the schools closed. Berkeley holding what they are calling a twitter town hall to answer questions about the coronavirus outbreak. S it is scheduled to start at non. Doctors doctors in berkeley confirm the first case. In martinez, going out for a workout, well see more clouds today. Maybe even wearing a jacket for some people. And well also have the cooler temperatures. But still a high amount of tree pollen. That is floating through the air. The top allergens and pine and willow and juniper in case you are wondering what you are dealing with now. And temperatures in the low 60s today. Again this is cooler than normal now that the cold front moves through and with more clouds and upper 50s expects in napa and San Francisco. So the front moving through and the clouds associated with it and it will continue to roll through today and by tomorrow well see the center of the low pressure still well to the north of us, closer and close enough to bring in scattered showers and sierra snow. For us, spotty and light rain. The next storm system looks like it will stay just to the south. So it looks like Southern California will have a lot more rain possibly over two inches around l. A. While we will see a lot less. In fact, the north bay may not measure much at all. While the south bay may get up to three quarters of an inch. So were timing out exactly when this will of move in and how much rain well see and a small jog in that area of low pressure could change things. Well populated and the nimitz is always busy but no problem and slowing showing up on sensors and well track that south of the coliseum. At the bay bridge toll plaza, no metering lights as we expect. They dont get turned on until at least 5 30 on friday and judging by the traffic, we might see know the metering lights for a while. Test kits from passengers on cruise ship off the San Francisco coast are being tested at a richmond lab. Results are expected as soon as today. 3,500 people are on board the grand princess cruise ship stopped from docking in San Francisco. 45 passengers are being tested. This morning Seven Members of the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety are in isolation due to coronavirus concerns. They all helped respond to an emergency involving a 72yearold man who died. After performing cpr, they learned the man had recently been on board the same grand princess now stuck off the coast of San Francisco. They are working to determine whether the man may have been infected with coronavirus. If it was not related to coronavirus, the officers may soon be allowed to end their home isolation. I have been reassured by the county executive that theyre working very best to make sure that the report comes back as soon as possible. The workers now in home isolation will not be tested for coronavirus unless the coroner determines the man would died was infected. We know that you have a lot of questions. Eventually the officers took the driver into custody after the car crashed along interstate 80 in richmond and there was a passenger in the car but it is not clear if they will face charges. San francisco leaders are blasting the recent i. C. E. Arrest made outside of the hall of justice. They say that it violates state law. Agents arrest are arrested a man as he arrived at the courthouse for a legal hearing. Because no judicial warrant was presented the arrest is illegal. I. C. E. We have 3500 people docked off the coast of San Francisco awaiting results for coronavirus, two previous passengers on that princess cruise line have died. We dont want to create any sort of panic but really inform people. But it is progressing so quickly. What advice can you give to people, to families po peopy working in this community. Sure. We need to stay calm but be vigilant now. The number of cases are going up and will continue to rise. But the two things we to focus on are, one, slowing the spread of the virus through the community now, and two, protecting our most vulnerable. So you could go to the county Santa Clara County at least has a very good website telling people what to do. In addition to hand washing and staying six feet away from others, covering your cough, staying home when you are sick, there are now recommendations to businesses as well to avoid large meetings that are oneonone and you could do more consider more telecommuting and staying home when you are sick, allowing for people to work from home. And canceling their nonessential travel. There are a lot of things that businesses can do. And there are things that we can do when were Planning Group gettogethers, try to postpone them if they are not essential. And really protect those who are vulnerable to complications illness, get them tested and avoid transmitting the illness to them. Right, exactly. And im glad you brought up the working from home. Facebook and google telling employees to do that as well. And theyre talking about people avoiding mass events. What about kids that are in group soccer, theyre in a lot of activities, are you advising people at this point to change their lifestyle, heading to the gym for example . Children are a little bit different. And so were taking them in a different light because theyre a little bit less of risk of complications. They are a low risk group but they can transmit the illness to other people. So in general were not recommending the county is not recommending closing schools. But if the child is living with somebody who is more vulnerable, very elderly or somebody with chronic medical conditions, that you might want to keep that child a little bit less exposed or keep them away from the person as much as possible who is more vulnerable.
