A 2. 6 magnitude earthquake hit just about 15 minutes ago. Were just getting information in. We understand it was centered near pin ole and east richmond. So far no reports of damage or injuries. Again, a 2. 6 magnitude earthquake just a few minutes ago. Usually this time of night, a lot of folks trying to settle down and go to bed and you may notice some of these smaller quakes more often than you might think. Well start off with that earthquake. It appears to be on the Northern Branch of the hayward fault as you see there on the map. Well zoom in. You can see 2. 6 right at the top of the hour. A depth of four miles, so perhaps you noticed that. Again, a 2. 6 not a big quake. Youre not going to have any damage from that, but it will get your attention. Just a short period of shaking there pretty close to richmond at 11 00. 2. 6 earthquake. Otherwise, whats getting your attention is how cold it is outside right now. 43 degrees in san jose. If you head over the trivalley, were already down to 37 degrees in dublin. That is the story heading into the morning before the rain and the wind start to pick up. Were going to see some patchy frost for the morning commute. You might have to scrape your windshields out there in the trivalley, north bay, and san jose as we begin the day in the low to mid30s. Highs tomorrow also running cool. Low 50s. Well see increasing clouds after that cool start to the day courtesy of a storm system that is really starting to get its act together. On the satellite video, you can see the comma like cloud there offshore. That cloud cover heading towards the pacific northwest. During the day tomorrow, you will notice increasing clouds, and i wouldnt be surprised even around lunchtime into the afternoon we begin to see a few light sprinkles here on the coast. By 5 00 and then 11 00 this time tomorrow night, were beginning to see the rain cross the coast. But the main event clearly is right on top of the thursday morning commute. Watch this line. Pretty wicked looking line showing up at 7 00 a. M. Right over the heart of the bay area. This is high rain rates per hour along with gusty winds at times from 4 00 to about 8 00 a. M. Then notice around noon we begin to see these secondary bands of showers, which may include some isolated thunder and small hail. So thursday looks pretty busy until we get into the evening. Well begin to see the rain start to taper off. And watch the wind speeds following the cold front. 3 00 a. M. Through about 8 00 a. M. , just like that crossing through the bay area well see gusts on the coast close to 45 Miles Per Hour for the morning and a little less wind as we head into the afternoon. So even though this thing is moving pretty quickly, look how much rain is going to fall out of it, especially in that three to fourhour window. Half inch to more than an inch of rain. Thats the reason we think this is going to be a high impact for your thursday morning commute. In addition to that, by thursday night, air gets pretty chilly even as the showers start to decrease. Snow showers could be increasing around mount hamilton. Could see three to four inches there. And one to two feet in the sierra where chain controls could be happening as low as colfax and placerville in the sierra. So that is our strong storm system that exits on friday. Well see another one showing up for saturday. Much weaker and just mainly some light rain showers for the north bay. And just like magic for sunday, the forecast still dry, trending warmer for sunday where a few spots will be close to 60 by the end of the weekend. Thats quite a uturn in the sevenday forecast from the very stormy and windy thursday to a few light rain showers saturday. Then a taste of almost springlike weather by comparison sunday into the beginning of next week. Anything going on sunday in the bay area . Just a little game there. The football game. Thanks, rob.
