Next we go live to washington to talk with chuck todd and get a preview of this weeks meet the press. Plus a mad rush to get Holiday Shopping done and why waiting until the last minute to shop might work in your wallets favor. Mike bloombergs never been afraid of tough fights, the ones that make a true difference in peoples lives. And mikes won them, which is important right this minute, because if he could beat americas biggest gun lobby, helping pass background check laws and defeat nra backed politicians across this country, beat big coal, helping shut down hundreds of polluting plants and beat big tobacco, helping pass laws to save the next generation from addiction. All against big odds you can beat him. Im Mike Bloomberg and i approve this message. The vulnerable members of congress that are looking at vulnerability constantly . I think in the short term it looks like its playing out the way almost all polarized political events play out in our politics, there isnt a special way that people are treating impeachment so far but i would say this, is remember how the politics of iraq changed. The iraq war vote, politics of it was one way when the vote happened, and then it turned quite sharply a few years later. So i do believe these impeachment votes, be them the House Democratic side or the Senate Republican side, are votes that will live a long time, and how they may play in 20 may be different than how they play in 22 and 24. I think its one of those things that as we learn more facts that will influence how impeachment is perceived. Chuck, Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she wont send those two articles to Senate Republican leader mcconnell until he sets the trial rules. How much of the strategy is an effort to get witnesses included and could it backfire on pelosi and the democrats downstream . I think there is some risk to this but what is interesting is every democrat ive talked to about it says no, this is just a temporary thing, helping Chuck Schumer get leverage with mcconnell and the other thing democrats will say, its about making sure people know its mcconnell trying to hold things up and they want to try to make mcconnell being the grim reaper of legislation a little more of a focal point so i think this is somewhat tactical, and thats where theres risk here, larry. I think the longer they hold them, the more it looks like a political tactic. Any time process has been the lead of impeachment, thats been advantage republican and any time the substance has been the lead of impeachment its been advantage democrat. Thats the danger here for pelosi, this is about process and tactics, which sort of moves the spotlight off of what the president actually did. Real quick, chuck, how long do you think its going to go . . Whats your gut . I think this trial will be a little longer than you think. I think once it starts a lot of these decisions will be made by Senate Roll Call votes. The point is, this is an unusual process and it could take weeks. Not days. Changing topics, chuck, historically the Iowa Caucuses have been anything but predictable. From last weeks democratic president ial debate could it be that minnesota senator Amy Klobuchar is emerging as a top tier candidate or for that matter is there anyone else you see gaining traction . Well, i would say this. Iowas clearly fluid. Buttigieg is clearly ahead. You didnt need a poll to tell you that, you have to watch the democratic debate. You see the national numbers, joe bid sanders ahead but all the focus was on buttigieg, hes ahead in iowa. Sanders hit him, warren hit him, klobuchar hit him. Hes the guy theyre chasing and they need iowa in order to boost themselves in the other states. Look, the december leader in the Iowa Caucuses, history shows rarely does win, when the caucuses are held a month later. Could Amy Klobuchar being a neighboring senator, her and cory booker have done, have put a focus on iowa in more so than any other state, so if any of them are going to see all of the seeds they planted come to fruition it would be one of those two. I think that is possible. I think its also possible that all of a sudden joe bidens solid debate performance makes him the viable moderate in this lane and the other thing is, our own nders i think we peril. Not only is he fully recovered politically from the heart attack, some of the swing vote in the 2020 election, those undecided voters find bernie more appealing in some ways than biden. Some democrats have to contemplate. Theyve got the money, too, right . He continues to raise the money. He is a constant money raiser. Yes. All right, chuck. Thank you very much. Be sure to join chuck for this mornings meet the press, with an exclusive interview with mark short, chief of staff to Vice President mike pence and interview with senator cory booker. Meet the press starts at 8 00 a. M. , right after this newscast. Between now and then, larry will be back in about 40 minutes. What are we going to talk about . Temperatures only topping out in the 50s in san jose. 57 degrees. 56 degrees in oakland. 56 in San Francisco, and 56 degrees in santa cruz, so weve got 50s across the board, but lets take a look at that hourbyhour outlook. We are at the peak right now but there could be some instability. Ill fast forward the time line, instability through oakland, palo alto. 10 00 a. M. Rain pushing through and heavier rain around san jose around 10 30. Up until 11 00 a. M. The majority of the system by about 12 00 start to completely move out east, decreasing showers taken will just be cloudy and by monday, just mostly cloudy conditions with dry weather. Lake tahoe there is a lot of snow expected to continue to fall all day today which is why im advising folks against traveling up to lake tahoe. Wait until tomorrow morning. Its going to be a lot easier to trek on by, that wind advisory set to expire at 4 00 a. M. Were tracking those southerly winds 30 to 40 miles per hour. Lets look ahead at the weather outlook because the cold front is sweeping through now. We have a dry monday but looking ahead to tuesday, Christmas Eve into wednesday, we have another storm system and that is expected to make its arrival tuesday night into early Christmas Morning, which means more rain for the bay area on Christmas Morning and snow for the sierra on Christmas Morning, making for a beautiful sight.
