Today democrats and republicans spent hours presenting evidence on whether or not to impeach President Trump. An actual vote could happen later this week. Nbcs alice barr joins us this evening in washington, d. C. With the details of todays hearings and what it means moving forward. Reporter that is right, raj. Today we heard some of the most heated exchanges in what is likely to be the last public impeachment hearing in the house. President trump chose not to participate today but he is sounding off on the release of a separate report today. After more than two months of of investigations, it is time for closing arguments. A summing up of evidence in the impeachment inquiry, interrupted by plenty of political arguments. Four hours youre going to overturn the results of an election with unelected people. The gentleman will suspend. Reporter cutting through the rancor, attorneys for both sides laid out the case for and against impeaching President Trump. To coerce a foreign country to help him cheat to win an election is a clear and present danger there is simply no clear evidence that President Trump acted with malicious intent. Reporter democrats allege the president abused his office by urging ukraine to announce investigations of his political rivals, withheld military aid to try to force what he wanted and blocked congress from investigating. Donald j trump, the president of the united states, has put himself before his country. Reporter republicans pointing out no one testified about a direct order from President Trump calling the impeachment process a partisan sham. They cant get over the fact that donald trump is president of the united states. Reporter president tru general new findings that the Justice Department inspector undercut his claims he was spied on by the fbi while running for president and the russia investigation was a witch hunt. The report did find the fbi made some serious mistakes and document errors and relying on an unverified antitrump dossier, the president is claiming vindication. It is a disgrace what happened. Reporter but the Inspector General found no evidence of political bias and said the fbi was justified in starting the probe. Attorney general william barr spoke out against the findings and several months back he appointed an attorney to conduct a separate review and that investigation is still on going. Back to you.
