Yeah, this all happened around the labyrinth, which is right along the water. When fire crews got here, they were able to pretty quickly spot him. Unfortunately, they were not able to save him. According to the San Francisco Fire Department, a woman who called 911. She says she saw the man near the labyrinth with an umbrella. She looked away for a few seconds and when she looked back, he was gone. Thats when she called for help. Fire crews spotted someone in the water, but it was a challenge for rescue swimmers to get to him. When they did, they brought him to shore and realized he was dead. He had suffered what they described as blunt force trauma, likely from the fall and also potentially from hitting the rocks in the surf. This area is dangerous because of the recent rains and because of that surf. The dimes that we see down below lands end next to the rocks within that we have extremely strong currents. You have waves that can even be about two to three feet high that can move our rescue swimmers and the victim into a rock. Reporter the labyrinth is on National Parkland so, this incident is under investigation by National Park police. Theyre trying to figure out the mans identity and determine if this was an accident. The Fire Department wants to remind people that these trails are marked pretty clearly, including with signs. They want to make sure that people know that especially when it is rainy and slick out here, it is dangerous to venture off of those trails. The area is closed because of all of this flooding. Drivers were forced to go through these muddy waters today. Sheriffs deputies say the water is four feet high in some of these areas. The deputies are warning drivers do not drive through the flooded waters. This is in the area of gonzales and chualar. The monterey offices of Emergency Services says the school was not evacuated but students were moved to the gym as a precaution. And the rain triggered a landslide in san bruno, forced the city to declare a local emergency. The earth gave way right across the canyon from the site of the san bruno explosion. City manager says right now the sidewalk and one lane of the road are closed as a precaution. We dont think there is any issues with the sidewalk or the westbound lane of traffic, but we want to be on the safe groga declaring a local emergency allowed the city to get help right away. We dont think there is any safety issue with the westbound but we want to be on the extra safe side. Reporter grogan says a temporary fix could include a concrete wall along the hillside. A permanent one could be a path for storm water to drain into the canyon. One lane of traffic will remain closed indefinitely while crews shore up the landslide. Reporter yes, im at the Piedmont Police department where police are staying on top of new tech that thieves are using to find valuable electronics. Thieves are stealing gifts from everywhere. Even if they dont see you put a package in your trunk, they have ways of sniffing out electronics hidden in your car. And those thieves may be able to scan and determine if there is an item in that car that contains a bluetoothemitting capability. And then discovering that that item is in the car even though that might be out of sight. Reporter 36 of americans report having a package stolen at least once according to a report from cnr research. Piedmont is joining others across the bay area actively working to catch thieves over the holiday season. Agencies are deploying a variety of tactics to curb car thefts a from following delivery drivers to surveillance cameras. We have license plate readers at the entrances to the city so that catches cars that come in with plates on cars that are either stolen or if the plates are then switched from other cars. Police recommend you leave nothing valuable in your car, especially electronics. And be careful when having packages delivered to your home. Whether youre using special delivery instruction was the carrier to say you might want it behind the gate or at the neighbors house or delivered to another location so that its not a target sitting on your front porch for a thief. You may remember just two months ago 14 other women sued lyft because of similar claims. Eight of these women say their attack happened after that september lawsuit. A woman who appears as jane doe number two says her driver raped her. I fought for my life and punched and kicked the lyft driver while the vehicle was still moving. I got out of it alive because i fought back. After the rape and fight, the lyft driver tried throwing me from his vehicle. In a statement, a lyft spokesperson wrote what these women describe is something no one should ever have to endure, adding its launched more than 15 new safety feature, including criminal background monitoring and inapp emergency assistance.
