Thats right, it is not here at the bay bridge but i wanted to show you the backup, were on schedule. Early backup formed but typical pattern through congretra costa county. There is one incident near the caldecott outside the tunnel, no slowing shows up for 24. The Traffic Alert is on the nimitz, just issued by chp, out of oakland through san leandro, and down toward a street where we have that truck that dropped seven carts out of the back, the report calls it mail carts. I dont know if this is related to the Postal Service at all but i know theres debris out of the lanes. Issued the sig alert in the middle lane, they may have to close a couple more. The slow something souing south. The rest of the bay moves smoothly. Pg e still hasnt made a final decision on whether to cut power to tens of thousands of homes and businesses in the bay area. And were expecting a decision later this morning. If the outages take effect in San Mateo County, fewer than 1,000 homes are expected to lose power. Mostly in remote areas but including parts of woodside and la honda. In the north bay roughly 7500 napa county customers may lose power. It covers eight towns including calistoga, st. Helena and lake berryessa. Sonoma county, 28,000 homes and busses m be impacted, it includes santa rosa, healdsburg and sonoma. The south bay and east bay probably wont see shutoffs but that doesnt mean people should not stay on alert. Bob redell joins us live in walnut creek this morning with some perspective there. Bob . Reporter laura, thats cause there is still a risk of fire danger here in the east bay and pretty much anywhere in the bay area, thats why firefighters are reminding you to at least have 30 feet of Defensible Space around your home especially if you live in a wildland area like this neighborhood located in walnut creek. The National Weather service has issued a red flag warning for contra costa county, where were at and every other county here in the bay area, except for San Francisco. It starts again this afternoon, runs until tomorrow afternoon. The highest threat of wildfire according to nws will be in eastern coco county. Because of warm temps, low humidities, and expected strong winds from the Central Valley. The city of berkeley is so concerned about this years fire season, last week the city Council Passed a resolution to make fire safety a top priority, and you can understand why. Many homes there and other parts of the east bay hills are built close together on steep terrain, suounded by lots of vegetation. We saw what happened in 1991, when 25 people died and 3,000 homes burned, which is why again firefighters are pleading with homeowners to clear the brush away from your homes. Sometimes i almost think were doomed, although thank goodness 36 years of living here, we havent been doomed yet, but its a lot of it is luck. Theres way too many trees, people dont want to trim trees as much as they should. Defensible space is tricky in the east bay hills because houses are built so close to each other. Its hard to meet the standard of 30 feet that is what people strive for. Reporter youll recall a couple of weeks ago, the 50acre wildfire that burned in the hills behind a gated community not far from here in moraga, firefighters said it could have been disastrous if they didnt stop it in time. We have since learned that Police Believe a vape pen could have caused that fire since they did find a vape pen in the area where the fire started. Reporting live in walnut creek, bob redell, today in the bay. Thanks so much, bob. Looks like weve been talking about those conditions out there, kari. This is what people need to be mindful of whats going on. Absolutely today, tomorrow, were going to start to see those winds picking up and the red flag warning going into effect and once again here is another look at that map, as we get ready to see our high fire danger kicking in today for the north bay, begins at noon, and then for the east bay, well start to see the fire danger increasing, at 3 00 this afternoon, we could see gusts up to 35 Miles Per Hour and 40 in the mountains, in the Santa Cruz Mountains, we will see this risk going up later on this evening, as we look at our wind speed forecast and going hour by hour, we take it into early afternoon, with that red flag warning begins. We can see that for areas in the east bay, south bay, as well as the peninsula, winds are going to be fairly light, but it will start to increase in parts of the north bay, where we see the brighter color shows the winds will be higher, and that inudese of the hills in the north bay, going into tonight, and then we do start to see the oakland hills, as well as parts of the peninsula, seeing those winds picking up throughout the day but notice in the valleys, wednesday light for most of the time, especially in the trivalley, as well as santa clara valley. So some of our lowlying areas may not get this high wind event, but the mountains are going to be the high risk areas, as well as the hills, where we have a lot of dry brush, low humidity, and also these high winds, so thats something well be monitoring all throughout the day. Laura and marcus . Thank you, kari. 6 06. Tomorrow we are going to come on the air early at 4 00 a. M. Join us for an Early Edition of today in the bay, try to keep you updated on everything going on in regards to these Power Outages. British Prime MinisterBoris Johnson pledged in a tweet to work closely with essex police to establish exactly what happened. We all know how expensive it can be to live in the bay area. This morning the south bay is getting a funding boost for Affordable Housing. Kris sanchez joins us with a look at a project that will add nearly 200 units. Kris . Reporter hi there, laura. Not a lot to look at behind me but this is an exciting little plot of land because this is where some of that Affordable Housing is going to get started here in Santa Clara County. Its going to be for people who are particularly low income, also young people who are homeless and folks with mental illness. The county voted to spend 33 million on two developments yesterday, about half of the funds coming from the housing bond, Santa Clara County voters passed in 2016, and about half of it from the states housing and Community Developments no place like home program. One development is here on reyes avenue and the other at gallop and mesa near the al maden expressway in blossom hill if youre familiar. County supervisor says the county is on track with its goal of creating at least 4800 units of housing by the summer of 2027. Neighbors here say they support it. Im just as happy to have a low income Affordable Housing here as to have market rates. Reporter why . Because we need something on the site and we need people to have a place to live and the homeless need a place to live as well as anybody else. Reporter also yesterday facebook pledged to spend a billion dollars over the next ten years in the city of san jose the social media giant says this will help develop 20,000 units of housing, they say will help teachers, nurses, First Responders live a little closer to where they work. Right now, at 6 09, as we get ready to head out the door, we have some cool temperatures, we are going to see some mid50s to start this morning. 49 though in santa rosa, and its 47 in napa. So very chilly in some spots. If youre about to head out to the Pleasant Hill b. A. R. T. The, and the heatup happens fast. At 56 to start out the day but look at 1 00, were at 83 degrees. Really heating up in some of these spots especially inland, where we could see some low 90s again today. Some of our hotter temperatures will be in napa and santa rosa reaching 93 degrees. Well talk more about this a the fire danger coming up. Mike, you have another update for the Traffic Alert. Thats righ we continue with that area out of oakland on the nimitz freeway. The upper east shore freeway has a couple incidents, no slowing. The big deal is this Traffic Alert headed south out of oakland toward the san mateo bridge, blending with the traffic off the Castro Valley y, 880 jammed all the way out of oakland and down in toward a street where this now the alert is called because the right two lanes are blocked, half your freeway restricted headed down toward highway 92, a disabled truck as well as debris on the roadway. Word of mail carts but were still trying to find out whether or not thats Postal Service or if its just a description of a type of cart that is out there. Over here, northbound 101 shows a little slowing toward tully, another crash in the south bay, but light traffic right now. Back to you. Thank you, mike. 6 11 right now. Next and all new for you, a costly morning tv mistake. This jerk was jumping around on everybodys cars. The consequence for one california reporter whose live shot inside a classic car show got him a rough situation on hand. The damage he calls. I promise you youll not have as tough a day as mark zuck zuckerberg. Ill tell you why, when today in the bay continues. Right now at 6 14 on this wednesday morning we are under a microclimate weather alert. We get ready for a hot day and high fire danger. San jose is going to see our temperatures in evergreen going from 59 this morning to low 80s and normal is 72 degrees. Well talk about winds picking up today in less than five minutes. The Traffic Alert continues right here, southbound 880 in hayward right around a street the disabled truck, the debris across the right two lanes. Jammed from davis to the scene, to the san mateo bridge. Good morning. Very happy wednesday to you. Tesla reports its profits today. Now, we care less about the profits and more about how much cash tesla has on hand, and how many cars it built. The ceo of service now in santa clara john donaho is leaving to become the ceo of nike. They liked john at svice now and the stock moved lower on the bad news. I was talking about existing home sales. It shows a slowdown and you think that would be good news for buyers but looking deep into the data, its not. Its more reflection of the lack of homes out there for sale and that low supply keeps prices high. Today is the day Mark Zuckerberg will return to congress, talking to the finance Services Committee ostensibly to talk about lib rah, facebooks new cryptocurrency but im going to make that bet that doesnt come up much because members of congress in both parties have all kinds of issues with facebook that have nothing to do as something so obscure as cryptocurrency. 03, its harvard i apologize for any harm don as a result of my neglect, 2006, we really messed this one up. 2007, we simply did a bad job. I apologize for it. 2010, sometimes we move too fast. 2011 and so son and so on. It could be tougher this time around because hes talking to the house financial Services Committee, that is a tough group. You have smart really direct to the point members, the chairwoman is californias maxine waters, shes really tough and new yorks alexandria ocasiocortez seen here questioning michael cohen, turned out to be savvy and a prosecutorial questioner. Yesterday she asked twitter, hypothetically, if you were, say, a member of Congress Sitting on the financial Services Committee given five minutes to question Mark Zuckerberg, what would you ask . One of her twitter followers answered ask him, did the russians really pay for their election ads in rubles . Really . Really . Really . Repeat until time expires. Yes, they did. So tough day ahead, i think for Mark Zuckerberg. It will be interesting. You saw him setting these up the last couple of days. Im not saying the billiondollar contribution was necessarily connected, but it was a billiondollar contribution, he appears on nightly news hes talked at georgetown. This is the day hes been preparing for. See how he does. Thanks, scott. 6 17 for you this morning. Trending a classic car catastrophe, a former reporter with good day sacramento is looking for a new job. This is what happened. He was fired after getting a lot of criticism for jumping on top of a classic 1950s thunderbird and striking a silly pose, as some would say. Then he jumped here on top of this new suv. Angel cardenas was reporting live from International Auto show. That kills me there. In between there he dinged another classic tbirds door. According to the Sacramento Bee kmax tv fired him. Laura, i know you love cars. I really do. My dad used to paint the flames. Really . He brought a love of the cars for me and im sitting there going, oh my gosh. I was cringing, the thunderbirds are beautiful. They put a ding in it like that. Not easy to fix. No, i mean theyre classic. People looking for a job this morning. Not an auto shop, im sure. Maybe he should work at the auto shop. All right, so lets get started this morning. Weve been talking about the high fire danger, the red flag warnings going up for today, and were going to see a high fire danger for most areas, except for San Francisco, where we start out with some nice cool, calm conditions, the winds will still pick up today and going into tomorrow. Lets head down to Mountain View as we check out our temperature trend for the morning, were going from 57 degrees to 69 degrees at 10 00, and some upper 70s by early afternoon. Our south bay High Temperature is going to be pretty high up there, reaching 86 degrees downtown. We were talking about the normal High Temperature for this time of year, its about 72 degrees, so were way above that, but i dont think well set a record today. Were looking at low 90s in antioch, pittsburg, as well as danville and hayward reaching 85 degrees. Well also see some mid 80s in redwood city today, San Francisco up to 80 in the mission district, mostly some 70s, and for the north bay were up to 91 in novato. Napa today reaching 93. Here is whats going on. Were seeing our winds shifting, coming in from the north and northeast, creating a high fire danger, as that wind moves over parts of the sierra, down to the Central Valley and into the bay area, as it does so, that air dries out, and it also really starts to move fairly quickly across the bay area, so with a high wind event, and low humidity, were going to see any sparks spreading rapidly. Here is a look at the relative humidity in the forecast for today, and then the bright colors show where the winds will be gustino sha a lot of gusty winds going into this evening, and humidity levels below 20 , and even dropping down into the teens as we go into tonight and early tomorrow morning and throughout the day tomorrow, we could see some single digit relative humidity numbers and thats going to make it very dry and also very hot. Look at the temperatures, were going into the low 90s for today and tomorrow. Temperatures peak tomorrow. Its still going to be hot on friday but it wont be as windy and then saturday its going to be very warm, but we get some major cooling on sunday, but that cooling also comes with another high wind event. So ill have more on that coming up. Mike, youre saying the Traffic Alert still conditions tinues i hayward. The backup out of oakland the nimitz, the bottom to of the screen, leaving oakland helpeded down toward 92, give you a second to look at the rest of your map, mild build there in walnut creek, and that fire, a grass fire off the freeway over there, around highway 4, nothing threatened from what i understand but its a distraction. The big problem again south 880 is jammed up, davis all the way down to just shy of a street to 92, wynton, foothill boulevard take you past the backup here which is holding steady. The truck and the debris block your right two lanes, thats the problem for the nimitz, headed down toward 92. Anywhere south of there other side of the bay also moves very smoothly. San jose we do have the earli incident north 101 at tully. Looks like its out of lan
