When were looking at mass shooters, theyre exhibiting impulsivity, bigotry, craving infamy. These are the issues we need to talk about. Were parents here. I was struck to learn that there are 42 states now that have laws requiring schools conduct active shooting drills right now. Weve come a long way from duck and cover back in the old days. Its so important to remember that we have to be prepared and not be scared and we have to remind our kids that we are doing this in an effort to protect them. What we know is that at some point this morning the bureau of prisons and prison officials found Jeffrey Epstein in his cell apparently he had hanged himself and they called the ems, the Fire Department of new york and he was in cardiac arrest and transported to the new york downtown hospital and then pronounced dead. It is a stunning turn. Obviously several weeks ago nbc news and several other outlets reported that epstein may have made an attempt on his life, although officials said at the time and later upon investigating it were wondering if it was more of an effort to get attention or perhaps to get better conditions for himself and obviously that is radically changed with this news. Comes following a days when more documents were unsealed in new york painting a clearer victim of what some of his victims allege and what they said. Excuse me. And on top of that, peter, it is just an incredible turn. This is somebody who kind of had gotten off easy from a judicial standpoint and people believe in mid2000s he faced only a single count in a state case tied to sexual abuse. He was indicted by a federal grand jury and arrested in july and faced charges by prosecutors here in new york who were keen to move forward with a case that featured a a number of new york victims from the period time of 2002 to 2005 and now they cant go forward with that case and this morning Jeffrey Epstein is dead. And, tom, to be clear, it was just a matter of weeks ago as you noted in either a Suicide Attempt or perhaps an effort as Law Enforcement officials told us at the time to fake an attack on him, that epstein was put under suicide watch, that followed that incident where there were marks found on his neck and found injured in the fetal position on the ground in his cell. This is going to raise a lot of new questions specifically how Something Like this could happen while epstein was in federal custody . Well, youre absolutely right, peter. What you described is exactly as we knew it at the time. It will raise significant questions and part of the reporting and the information that were going to try to gather here this morning. Were hoping to get a press release from the bureau of prisons that oversees federal prisoners and federal inmates so were trying to get more details of that. In light of that incident and everything going on and the fact he is a highprofile defendant, somebody who had friends to well one current president and one former president at one point he had been friends with. Hes somebody whose allegations were made more clear yesterday that some of his victims say that they were told to have sex with two former two former politicians, one a sitting u. S. Senator and one a former governor. So for somebody who is this highprofile, facing the type of charges he was facing and given the incident you describe, serious questions will be asked as to how we came to the point where he was able to die by suicide here. This morning Officials Say they stopped a possible white supremacist attack and collected information. 23yearold connor kleimo is behind bars accused of plotting to firebomb a local synagogue or bar serving lgbtq customers. Fbi Antiterrorism Task force arrested him on thursday. According to Court Documents he used Encryption Technology to communicate online with people identified as White Supremacists and recently told an fbi informant he was looking for places to attack. According to the criminal complaint, authorities discovered bombmaking materials at his home along with a notebook containing plans for a potential attack. They also confiscated an ar15 assault style weapon and a bolt action rifle. The criminal complaint also noted that a heavily armed kleimo spoke to knnv back in 2016 as they patrolled his neighborhood. If there was a determined enemy we have a means of dealing with it. He was not arrested at the time. Reporter a federal judge has ordered him to remain in federal custody until a Court Appearance later this month. In a newly released arrest affidavit, he spelled out his racist motive telling officers in his words he was targeting mexicans. Just coming for the with information, its definitely indicative of a hate crime. Reporter today three more victims will be laid to rest. 56yearold mirabel hernandez loya who leaves behind four children and jordan an andre enchando. They died shielding their 2monthold son paul from the gunmans bullets. Earlier this week President Trump visited el paso and met with the enchando family. Its drawing backlash. It shows Melania Trump holding the orphan the infant, trump standing alongside them and flashing a thumbs up, a pose he used in other white house photos throughout the day, but the criticism came fast. Many calling his picture with the infant insensitive. That horrible creepy picture of him with a thumbs up with melania holding an orphan infant i think says it all. But the babys uncle tells the Washington Post the president was just there as a human being consoling us and giving his condolences atting that his slain brother, the childs father, was very supportive of President Trump.
