Like i just saw people on the ground like crawling to the bathroom and i just like went because it was like either go to the bathroom or go out the back door. And i dont know. I couldnt tell you. It was just not a thoughtout plan. The shooter has been identified at 24yearold connor bets. His sister is among the victims. This mornings shooting in el paso, texas where a young white man opened fire on a crowd of hispanic shoppers. Some of those bodies are still inside that walmart. 26 other injured. The gunman was taken into custody. Police say he posted a document online that was antiimmigrant and antigovernment with his rhetoric. He said he had these feelings before the trump presidency. Tonight authorities are investigating the shooting as a hate crime and act of domestic terrori terrorism. The texas congresswoman spoke to donors today while urging new gun violence legislation. She was holding a town hall yesterday when the gunman fired. A vigil tonight across the border from el paso. People said the shooting was too close to their homes to ignore. In the wake of the el paso shooting mexico says it will take legal action to protect nationa nationals. Democratic lawmakers in the house are calling on the republican colleagues in the senate to pass stricter gun leg haitian. House democrats blaming republicans for not passing stricter gun control legislation and calling for an end to hatefilled rhetoric after the shooter posted an antiimmigrant document. I hope he will pass the background check and send it to the president and the president must sign it, period. Mcconnell called the mass shooting sickening, but no mention of the bill. The white house points to a ban on bump stocks. Weve done actually a lot. But perhaps more has to be done. But this is also a Mental Illness problem. Still President Trump signed a bill last week rolling back an obama era legislation that made it harder for people with Mental Illness to buy a gun. That had people receiving Social Security checks for Mental Illnesses. But was widely opposed byadvoca thank you, jennifer. As she did at the garlic festival, Kamala Harris is again asking President Trump to act now on the issue of gun violence, calling out the president to addredo more to ad domestic terrorism. This president should acknowledge that we also have a lot of terrorism is is occurring within our own country. And the president wont speak to us. First, acknowledge it and then speak to us and then do everything in its power to make sure there will be consequence and accountability but to make sure these things dont happen. This is all coming one week after the mass shooting in gilroy. Today a Community Still grieving came together to help the victims. Christy smith joins us live to explain. Reporter well, certainly in a community that is still grieving and trying to cope with the worst that can happen, this hits close to home. We heard many times today here that their hearts absolutely go out to those families affected in texas and ohio after two more Mass Shootings this weekend. The community has tried to support the families of the three People Killed at the garlic festival including two children. Today a car watch was held in san jose with proceeds going to the families here locally. In gilroy, the owner offered free haircuts to police, fire and ems workers as a way of giving back. He says the Mass Shootings were weighing heavy on his mind, too. My heart goes out to those affected by the other two shootings that have happened in texas and its a terrible that i think thats happening right now in the nation, and im just lucky to be in a position where i am able to give back. I take care of my community as much as i can. They offered food there as well.
