Shambles and they had no power, so they slept in their suv. We had couple of power poles right there but i think the safest place is right here for us for now. Reporter they put out a mattress in back and slept in the dark. In trona the quake smashed streets, damaged brick walls, and forced workers at the Searles Valley mineral factory to evacuate. Those two vintage smokestacks are supposed to be identical twins. One is now several feet shorter than the other. The usgs predicts a 96 chance of up to eight earthquakes with a magnitude of 5 or stronger in the coming week. In the last three days there have been more than 3,000 aftershocks. And while most of them were not Strong Enough for people to feel, there could be another big jolt coming. Probability of 96 is 27 . So we are likely to see one or two of those in the next week. Watching the quakes themselves kind of changing in location. The first event of course was a 6. 4 earthquake and then this time last night we were tracking that 7. 1 earthquake and you can see how the activity kind of shifted off to the north and west. So youve got that one boundary here to the south and the other which continues to run off to the north and west, north of ridgecrest. And some of the larger aftershocks weve seen today, many about 4. 5. In fact, one recently at 10 38 tonight of 4. 5. And the trend continues to be at least downward. One of the things thats been interesting about this particular earthquake sequence, the two main quakes. But one of the things that caltech pointed out today is that the sequence or the intensity of this most recent event seems to be decreasing a little more rapidly. So that might be good news. We havent seen a major event tonight. Aftershocks will stay elevateov lot of people thinking about earthquake survival kits. The owner of this store said he got so many calls he decided to open up shop today and tomorrow. He sells grab and go kits and supplies to help people survive after a major quake. Keeping up with demand, though, hasnt been easy. After last night the 7. 1, thats an action call. We must have gotten 15 orders online just last night. He is reminding everybody to put those kits in a place where you can easily access them in a disaster like a shed in your back yard, not in your house. Here at home, Police Arrested two teenagers in connection with the dramatic mall shooting in san bruno earlier this week. But a third suspect, an adult, is still on the run. This is him. It shows two of the young men circled in the shooting in the video shooting at each other on the second floor near the crowded food court. It happened at 10 30 this morning on east 10th street. Police say the two men with guns robbed the store and got away before police arrived. You can see the two suspects in the photo. Firefighters say the flames started just before 1 00 in the morning outside near the deck of the home. That fire destroyed the back part of the house and also part of the attic. The system covering the west coast is cdrogrs are already in place, but whats the progress in california now . of its done. Were putting the infrastructure in. Reporter newsom says he wants to make sure Critical Systems like transportation are first in line. Automatic shutoffs and train systems and rail systems. The biggest challenge now is to get those alerts to the people. And there are a couple of different cell phone apps that are under development. A few seconds doesnt sound like a lot. But what it can mean is that you have time to duck, cover, and hold on.
