Light drive. Developing story in the south bay. This morning were finding out even more information on a wild chain of events in san jose that ended with the shooting of a woman. This all came to an end in West San Jose just one mile away from downtown campbell. Today in the bays pete suratos joins us live where it all happened. Pete, do we know how it all started . Reporter good morning, what were learning this morning is that it was apparently a frantic sequence of events that led to that shooting but it happened in this area near eden avenue and d Cadillac Drive in san jose. San jose police are still looking for a shooter at this time. Lets take you back to when this all happened. Lets show you scene video from saturday night. These new details we are getting are according to the San Jose Mercury news, theyre saying there was that sequence of events leading up to the shooting and there was a female victim driving with a male passenger and the two of them were apparently being chased by a motorist. That female victim eventually crashes into a tree and moments later a person walks up to that fire wreck and fires several shots into the car. There was that male passenger in there, like i mentioned, that person was able to run away and that shooter fired shots at him as well. He was not hit, but he later spoke with police about this incident and helping them with that investigation. But the female victim had at least one gunshot wound and San Jose Police tell the paper she is on life support recovering from those injuries. Police have not released any information on a possible motive or a description of the suspect. Were hoping to get more information from police at some point this morning, but it is a residential neighborhood that were talking about where this shooting took place. At 5 02, happening this morning, caltrans crews will reportedly lead a sweep of homeless people, this is in an area underneath connecting freeways in the south bay. The mercury news reports this morning a relatively recent tent city is growing near phillip avenue in san jose. Nearly 100 people may be living in tents underneath the tarps. Homeless advocates promise to protest todays sweep. It is 5 03. New this morning San Francisco has reportedly reached a legal settlement with a firefighter whose identity was leaked in connection with the death in the 2013 Asiana Airlines crash. A live look at sfo where the crash happened. Examiner reports attorneys for the firefighter argued one teenage crash victim died after being struck by two emergency vehicles responding to the crash. That girl had been ejected from the plane and was covered in firefighting foam. Since then investigators have concluded the girl was likely already dead, but the suit accused the Fire Department of scapegoating and retaliation in leaking the name of one of the vehicle drivers. The city has tentatively agreed to settle that case for 250,000, citing the uncertainty in proceeding with litigation. Developing this morning, investigators are zeroing in on the cause of yesterdays deadly train crash when an amtrak collided with a Freight Train in south carolina. They now believe a locked track switch diverted the amtrak on to the sidetrack where that Freight Train was parked. The engineer and conductor both died. More than 100 passengers were injured. Some of those passengers later talked about the crash after taking buses to their destination in florida. Woke up to a real loud boom at about 3 00 a. M. And i just returned to the bathroom and just curled up to go back to sleep and next thing you know i was bouncing off chairs and chairs were flying, cell phones, laptops. Investigators still dont know why the track switch was locked. They plan to be back at the scene this morning. More details now, overnight we looked closer into recent railrelated deaths, the ntsb says last year there were 173 fatalities involving people on board trains, that included freight passengers and Commuter Rail lines. As the recent amtrakrelated deaths one person died last week when a charter train crashed into a garbage truck in virginia. Three people died in december when an amtrak derailed outside of tacoma, washington. A live look at capitol hill 6c expecting another busy day in washington, d. C. San lorenzo high still allows their students to bring their smart phones to campus, even allows them to keep them on their person throughout their classes with one caveat, at the start of every day at 8 00 they must insert their cells into these green pouches and shut them until around 310 nick in the afternoon, thats one the school unlocks the pouches. A San FranciscoCompany Called yonder created the pouches specifically to curb cellphone use. The principal says ever since her 1,400 students art started yondering up she has seen the number of students sent to her office for classroom disruptions decreased by 50 . Teachers are spending less time dealing with cellphone distractions and in the classroom and you can see the students are actually more social in spite of the social media lockdown. Transformative. It is absolutely changed our entire School Climate and culture. Students talk to me in the halls now, they have to talk to each other. A substitute teacher noticed better posture because they are not looking down at their phones in the hallways during class. People wont interact with each other. I have a lot of class time back. We go through every assignment way faster than we did in previous years. Things i have done for years now take 10, 15 minutes fewer to complete the assignment.
