confirmed dead. crews are reporting 43 people are still unaccounted for. we know four children are among those who died in tuesday's mudslide. this morning, we are getting a better look at that devastation left behind in the wake of the deadly slide. "today" show's miguel almaguer is in montecito with the long road to recovery. >> reporter: marcus and kris, good morning. they are calling this is search and rescue mission. in neighborhoods like this one, it looks more like a recovery. massive amounts of mud and huge boulders rolled down the hill. they are literally covering home after home, up to their rooftops. we know 43 people are reported missing, another 17 are dead. coming up on the "today" show, we take you up in the air to give you an aerial perspective of how widespread the devastation is. when they first got to neighborhoods like this one, the mud was six feet deep. authorities say they are looking for survivors today. back to you guys. >> thank you, miguel. new this morning, changes could be coming to who gets to see police body cameras in san francisco. right now, officers involved in deadly shootings watch video before talking to investigators. the examiner reports that the police chief wants to change that policy. officers would only be able to look at their own body camera before speaking to investigators. that is still under review. happening today, a tribute set for a south bay high schooler who collapsed and died during a basketball game in may. we reported on the 16-year-old's death. she was a rising star on the junior varsity basketball team at homestead high school in cupertino. at tonight's game, there will be a memorial set up outside the gym and also a moment of silence. if you are going, they ask that you wear golden state warriors gear. she was a huge warriors fan. students are going to decorate the gym with blue and yellow streamers and balloons in her honor today. also happening today, authorities will gather to educate educators on responding to the unimaginable. they will hold an active shooter training session meant to prepare teachers for dangerous on campus incidents. this is hosted by the office of education. new warnings out this morning for swimmers in san francisco's bay. the fourth sea lion attack in a matter of weeks. the latest incident happened early yesterday morning at aquatic park. we brought this coverage during yesterday's midday newscast. this is the spot where other incidents happened. we spoke with the victim. at first, she thought it was a joke. >> i think this is something wrong with me because -- not serious bite you, just hold you. >> glad she's okay. she says she cried out for help for other swimmers to help get her to shore. she is expected to be okay. the public swimming spot was closed off briefly following the first few incidents last month, but not after this attack, the one yesterday. there are, however, warning signs posted of sea lions and being advised to swim in pairs. the maverick surf contest could be a go for monday. the world surf league is deciding whether the waves will be good enough in high moon bay. they are eyeing the mlk holiday to kick off that event. the decision could come today. as you know, surfers only have a short window to get here. as we have been reporting, the world surf league bought the rights to the contest after the previous organizers declared bankruptcy. i'm sure kari hall is watch tin that forecast as well. bart needs more time to test service in the south bay. transportation officials say they need six months to test the tracks there. they say they can't start testing the tracks until march because vta is still doing their test. service from the warm spring station to the berryessa station was supposed to start in june. i know that might be an eye rolling moment, but i would rather have them testing out than having people on the tracks. that's good stuff in the end, i hope. looking toward the rest of the bay and a smooth drive on the road. we are looking into berryessa. that's the area we are talking about, debris in the roadway. a mattress. some folks are trying to get as much sleep as they can. look at that. green sensors around the south bay and up to the bay bridge where the metering lights are on at the toll plaza. the orange, the north bay, the bridges, that fog really affecting the ride. the ride is fine for these agencies. bart and ace will be on modified schedule monday because it is martin luther king holiday. >> a long weekend for some people. >> yeah. >> can you believe i don't have plans for the weekend. >> you don't?
