Reporter the mudslides happened in a region where a few weeks ago, rain was needed to try to put out the worst wildfire in california history. Teams of engineers knew that rain could cause mudslides in the burnedout area. But no one could predict this type of devastation. Tonight, bulldozers are scraping away mud in the streets of Santa Barbara county. Trees uprooted, a landslide pushing homes off their foundation. Survivors in disbelief. I looked outside. There was an orange sky. I went out and saw an explosive fire. Started videoing it. Reporter by helicopter, rescue teams are doing everything they can to find survives, in a town taken by surprised by a sea of mudd and debris. Theres the coordinates, a family of five. See what you can do. Reporter an Impossible Task when you look at what theyre dealing with. In Santa Barbara county, a 14yearold girl found inside a home buried in mud. She waited six hours for help to arrive. It was so hard to hear her. We could have easily taken two more steps and wouldnt have been able to hear her at all. Reporter neighbors helping each other. Many of the rescues taking an emotional toll, especially on this man, who discovered a child. That was a little baby. He got it out, got the mud out of its mouth. I hope that its okay. Reporter hospitals are filled with victims who had to be airlifted to safety. Thousands have been ordered to evacuate. The Santa Barbara county Sheriffs Office is telling us that the death toll is at 13. They say with certainty, the number of People Killed in the mudslides will go up. 13 is the official number for right now. The primary artery through town, we mentioned 101, it remains shut down for a 30mile stretch, from Santa Barbara to ventura. The county Fire Department tweeting this video, to give us an idea of the danger there. That road is completely flooded. We have a crew arriving in Santa Barbara county. A federal judge has revived part of the Immigration Program that protects young undocumented children from deportation, children brought to the United States by their parents. Trump decided to end daca. A u. S. District judge issued the preliminary injunction in San Francisco. The department of Homeland Security will accept renewal applications from people protected under daca. It doesnt have to accept new applications.
