Its the moisture thats been feeding in all day long with a tremendous amount of rainfall, just in the past 24 hours alone our top toe talt in the santa cruise mountains 4. 75 inches. In kent field, 4. 5 3. Well track our number one flood threat, in marine, napa and sonoma county. We have heavier rainfall on the way to those areas into sonoma by 11 33 tonight. San francisco has been getting slammed the past couple of hours and more heavy rainfall headed to downtown by 11 31 tonight. Oakland by 11 3 and berkeley at 11 43. Down to the south bay we have rainfall through the santa cruz mountains, and to the san jose by 11 26. Were tracking when this finally gets out of here and well have more on the Flash Flood Watch for the south bay at 11 19. One of the worst bottlenecks in the bay area is about to get worse tomorrow. Tonight emergency crews are on 101 in palo alto, this is our live cam, you can see the emergency vehicles in the middle of your screen. Lanes could be closed for the next 24 hours. Nbc bay area cheryl hurd joins us along 101 with the details. Reporter it just started to pour out here and, of course, the roads are slick. If you plan on traveling near the palo alto area northbound, be prepared to hit the brakes because potholes are popping up all across the area. The two right lanes of 101 just north of the embark dare row root is closed right now for emergency repair. At around 3 30 the pavement started giving way. A cal tran spokesperson said a diesel spill last year and todays rain is the reason why the road is crumbling. Theyre going to try to put a cold patch in that area. Hopefully we can get it open for the morning commute. We dont think it will last very long. Reporter thats because the roads will be wet for a while. It was bumper to bumper all across the area. Today they were looking into a car crash that killed the driver. Chp not saying what caused the crash, even though the road was wet. Officers also unsure if wet roads were to blame for the overturned truck in belmont. Although its making it difficult, many drivers are happy its here. Into our news room, police have arrested three people in connection with that double shooting in fremont. It happened near North Gate Park early sunday morning. The victims came out of a home and tried stopping thieves from breaking into a car, they were then shot. The thieves ran off and left their truck, you see it being toyed away there. He claims google fired him for being conservative, james damore and his attorney outlined the suit this afternoon. Google dismissed james damore after a memo he wrote. He accuses the company of settise setting quotas and marginalizing white employees. He was asked what he considers a diverse work place to be. Theyre now watching tv on the phones, texting, face timing, instagraming, everything is on their phone. Reporter all that screen time for kids is raising concern with some apple shareholders. Jan napartners and the california state retirement system sent a letter urging apple to study screen time impact and offer parents solutions. Saying there is a growing body of evidence for some of the most frequent users this may be having untconsequences. We know certain media do contribute to anxiety and depression among kids. Stanton says screen time impacts sleep. He says more study is needed. Parents we talked to hope apple gets to work. This is a generation that has extended screen time. We are under a weather alert due to the heavy rainfall weve had. You can see it, talk about a copious amount of moisture building in from the south pushing to the north. Were seeing this breakoff to the south but i think we have another four to five hours of this consistent rainfall before we could see things change. Lets talk about the rainfall. In case you missed it earlier, look at our totals. This is 24 hours alone. We picked up more today than we have since the start of the rain season on october 1st. So big day for us here in the rainfall department. Santa cruz minutes 4. 75 inch. Kentfield 4. 75. Santa rosa close to 2. 5, dublin nearly 2 inches. San jose has now tipped the mark and we could get close to 1. 5 inches in downtown by tomorrow morning. I want to track the top two zones right now with some of the heaviest rainfall as our current highest is the north bay for any kind of flash flooding. Right here in the wildfire burn zones, people need to watch it closely into tomorrow morning where mud slides are possibly. Lets get to the doppler radar. Everybody is still getting wet from the north bay to south bay. Two areas of concern, here throughout downtown San Francisco, its going to continue off to the tiburon at 11 28. The secondary ya i want to bring you to is the east bay. Were looking at heavier rainfall continuing into union city, 11 25, walnut creek, 11 55 and antioch just after midnight. If you dont have to be on the roads in the next couple hours, please do not. Its too slick and slippery out there. Tomorrow mornings forecast we keep the chance of rainfall. It should not be as widespread as were seeing now. But watch out roadways will still be wet. Temperatures in the 50s throughout all of the bay area. We can time things out for you while we get the rainfall continuing to 2 00, and scattered rain into 7 00 a. M. Dont let your guard down. We may see a last push of wet weather by 11 30 in the morning on tuesday. Then eventually by 3 30 in the afternoon, the storm system finally starts to push out and mush needed drying as we head to wednesday, thursday, friday, and saturday.
