Reporter good morning to you, marcus. As you mentioned, the closing arguments are underway in the kate steinle shooting here in the hall of justice behind me here. In the past hour we saw the defense and the prosecution as well as the family of the kate steinle entering the courtroom. We have new video of that taking place. And of course this case has been at the center of the immigration debate, specifically the topic of sanctuary cities. Now the case has laid out the case for juan Garcia Zarate. Claiming that that july 2015 shooting was accidental and the bullet which killed steinle ricochetted off of the pier at pier 14 before striking her back. Of course the prosecution has a different take on this, laying out the case that czar zarate intentionally carried out that shooting, pointing the gun at steinle and deliberately pulling the trigger. Of course weve learned throughout this that gun thaad reason stolen just days earlier. The defense says Garcia Zarate found stashed under a seat at the pier. They initially charged him with seconddegree murder, but the judge agreed to a request to request firstdegree murder as well. Our own nbc bay area sam brock is in the white house. And this is what well see throughout the next couple of hours with a chance of rain farther to the north of the bay and then the south bay only getting a couple of sprinkles but mainly a cloudy day. It starts to clear out later on tonight. As we head into the day tomorrow, were going to clear and have some warmer temperatures moving in. And that will hold into thanksgiving. Investigators are looking for clues after a suspicious death in an east bay best western. We brought this live coverage on today in the bay. We spotted a lot of Police Officers at the motel on clayton boulevard. We know the person was found dead inside the room. We dont know anything about the person or whether authorities are treating this as a homicide. Well, police are investigating a deadly stabbing overnight. This happened a little before midnight at a home near San Jose Country Club on fairway drive. Deputies say this started as a dispute between roommates. They say the victim was a 21yearold. The stabbing suspect was on the scene and is now in custody. Charles manson, one of the most notorious murders in history who targeted hollywood is dead at the age of 83. He was a subject of repulsion, devotion and some fascination. Nbcs Gadi Schwartz has more on his infamous life. Reporter for decades, Charles Manson terrified the world. We heard there about the parole hearings. You were telling me earlier that you actually went to one of those parole hearings. I went to a couple of them. Explain what it was like to see him and come facetoface with him. I was a young reporter working in the Central Valley and the prison was part of the area we covered. I had to go through many layers to get into the prison and what we wore and then to be in the presence of, i mean, just such a horrible person, i mean, these murders were brutal. And he did. He captivated the room. He had those piercing eyes, the swastika on his forehead. And the way he tried to control situations was still fascinating. It was fascinating to watch but it was very haunting to be in his presence at the same time. And to feel that eyetoeye contact. You came eyetoeye with him . He almost made a point to try to do that to people no place in particular, i felt he tried to make a point to do that with women, you know . But, no, ill never forget it. Over the weekend, the president took on those ucla players who shoplifted from a store while they were in china for an exhibition game. The president hinted ahead of time he would want thanks for help getting those players home. The players and ucla very carefully thanked him, but the president is angry one of the players fathers is not grateful enough. The president said i should have left them in jail. Reaction on social media was swift. Many saying no american president should be threatening americans with jail time in a foreign country because that president didnt feel one of the players parents was grateful enough. Now we should point out according to ucla officials, those players were never in jail in the first place. During a press conference last week, we learned the Police Actually came to the hotel and it was ucla that restricted the players in that hotel. Of course all of this comes as pressure grows on the white house. Special prosecutor mueller subpoenaed the Justice Department for documents about the firing of james comey. Youll remember the president himself admitted he tried to stop comey from investigating his campaigns connections to russia right on nbc nightly news. There are about 50 pound office food in here. Fresh produce, pasta, potatoes. I saw some kiwis over there that looked good. Eggs and what not. And focus can also choose between a turkey, a ham or a chicken this morning. And this is intended to help a lot offer our working families here in the bay area that are struggling with the rises rent and also with wages that seem to just be stagnant. Sacred heart expects these hearts will help about 4,000 families put thanksgiving dinner on the table. And this morning there were about 1,000 turkeys here on site, short of the goal of 7400 turkeys which is why around the other side of the building they are still accepting donations. Sacred Heart CommunityService Needs 4,800 turkeys for this week and into christmas. If you can donate, drop off any time until 5 00 today. Any time between 8 00 and 5 00 tomorrow and wednesday. Sacred heart is at first and Almond Street here in san jose. They recognize with the san jose floods that started this year, the north bay wildfires that we just put behind us, the hurricanes in puerto rico and houston, folks may have already given to other causes, but they remind folks that there is still a need here at home. We just want to remind, you know, folks that there are people here that are struggling. Again, because the rent is too high. Prices keep going up. Wages are staying the same. So i feel that there is an extra request i guess to support one another this time of year. Reporter now, these are some of the most wellknown clients here at Sacred Heart Community services. Weve seen some retirees and, again, families coming through here, but at noon, so in about 45 minutes, the general public gets to come in. This is the first year that they didnt make folks preregister. They say theyre doing this out of a sense of compassion for working families. They know its hard for people to get here at a scheduled time so they just opened it up and said come on down when you are able. Theyre saying the same thing to folks who have something that they can donate. And even if you can only give a Little Turkey or a little ham, whats the saying, a little by little, a little becomes a lot. Sacred Heart Service can certainly put that to good use. Good were getting a little bit of rain because were heading into several days of warm and dry weather. But i wanted to show you how much rain weve gotten and how that compares to normal as we take a live look outside over San Francisco from san bruno mountain. Santa rosa, about 5 inches of rain, which is above the percentage of normal that we get for this time of year. Looking at San Francisco, over 2 1 2 inches of rain. We are almost where we should be. This really helps, the rain that we had last week, boosts us back closer to normal percentages here. Looking even in san jose where we were down to about 1 4 a percentage of normal, were up to about 81 . So making some progress here with a little bit more rain that may be adding up, especially in the north bay. Guerneville had close to an inch of rain there. Cloverdale, 0. 2. We are going to have that chance with temperatures reaching the low 50s to upper 60s. For the south bay, its going to warm up to 71 degrees today and 70 degrees in morgan hill, 72 in gilroy.
